Our GPS (using 2 different sources) took us to the backside of the park where there was no entrance and over a lot of dirt roads. When we finally figured out how to get into the park, we found it too "close" for our comfort. The river flowing through the park was muddy and unpleasant. The woods were too overgrown, though they had cut a nice walking path through the park. The hiking opportunities are good, but we just didn't like the place. We cut our stay short - couldn't get out of there fast enough. We camped at Fort Ransom State Park in a Motorhome.

Date of Stay: July, 2019 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

We arrived a bit before 8p and stopped to pay our $7 park entrance fee at the box. The regional manager showed up at our car window in his Mickey Mouse t-shirt. He pointed us in the direction of our campsite and let us know he was staying in the covered wagon in case we needed any help or had any questions. The campgrounds were mostly empty. Everything was well kept and clean. There wasn't any hand sanitizer in one of the pit toilet buildings but that's our only issue in an otherwise very nice stay. We took a couple of walks along the mowed, grass trails. There were a couple of access points to the water. We were at site #22 which is right next to a bend in the river. Nice, level, pull-through site. There's a fence to prevent people from getting too close to the drop off which would be nice if you've got little children. We camped at Fort Ransom State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Date of Stay: October, 2018 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

Beautiful river valley park in South East North Dakota. Very low traffic park. Campsites are spacious and clean. Only three campsites occupied during our stay late in the season. My impression is that more of the Park features (scenic roads, pit toilets) are closed early than what is really necessary in a customer-focused organization. Despite that mild criticism, this is a quality campground/experience built around the historical agricultural existence of the region. Topographically, it really stands out, in a positive way, from the rest of SE N.D. We camped at Fort Ransom State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Within this park there are two additional campgrounds serving campers with horses. There are extensive horse trails in the area.

Overall Rating:

This is a small and quiet campground with spacious sites. The only service at the site is 30 amp, no water or sewer. Most of the sites are on a slope and challenging to level. We had good Verizon cell/MiFi reception, but the trees prevented satellite reception. The rate includes the on-line reservation fee; there is an additional $5 per day entry fee for your towed vehicle. We stayed two nights and were charged for three entry days. Therefore we paid $34.50 per night. We camped at Fort Ransom State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Rent a canoe at the Park Office and paddle down the Sheyenne River.

Mosquitoes were bad along the nature trails.

Overall Rating:

The sites have electricity but water and dump are located near entrance into the park. Love the park. Drive through sites are level [dirt], but roads are paved. Camp sites are large, private, and have trees. Will stay again. We did not want to leave. Nice grounds and hiking trails. We had a very quiet, peaceful experience. We camped at Fort Ransom State Park in a Motorhome.

A real jewel. The scenic byways roads needs to be taken, be careful you don't meet any farm machinery on them. Super hiking place and very big campsites. We camped at Fort Ransom State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Date of Stay: July, 2007 - $21.00
Overall Rating:

Extremely nice RV sites - spacious, far apart, shady, quiet, scenic, all had fire rings. Only drawback was that only a handful of the sites had water hookups - we didn't know this beforehand and we got a site that did not have water. There is a tank fill-up station though. There are nice hiking/biking trails, playground, amphitheater, horseback riding, canoing/kayaking rentals on the Sheyenne River, which is very clean - only saw one piece of litter. Staff was friendly and helpful. Extremely pleased and will return. We camped at Fort Ransom State Park in a Travel Trailer.
