Our time at Fort Abraham Lincoln State Park was short, but sweet. The park runs along the banks of the Missouri River just outside the town of Mandan, North Dakota, and a short distance from Bismark. The asphalt roads were well maintained and were plenty wide making it easy to navigate through the campground. Many of the sites were pull-through as was our site was level, #56. I did see some sites that required boards, but none too much off. The strange thing about this park is that the utilities were oddly placed. We saw some sites that had to link several water hoses together to reach the designated faucet for their site. Utilities worked great. This site was a water/30amp only site. I used the hiking trails as were others in the park and I found them to be to be in good shape. There is a Slant Indian Village as well as what remains of the Fort, including Custer's house you can explore. This park is family - friendly with a playscape and a large green space for games and football, etc. Our Verizon and AT&T signals were good and we used our satellite for the TV. We would definitely stay here again when in this area. We camped at Fort Abraham Lincoln State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Spacious sites, but a bit of an odd layout. For most of the sites, the water/electric hookups will be on the wrong side of the site. Most of the sites are pull-through (sort of), like a short loop off the main road. The problem is that many of these have 2 sites on them, which means if the other party is already in the site, you can't pull through, and you then may have to back-in but have your rig facing the wrong way on the site. We were there in mid-September, and there were about 8 (out of 82) sites taken, until Friday night when the place just about filled up. The sites that did not fill were all flooded. It appears that there's a drainage problem, as many sites were flooded, and others had standing water on them. The park had 2 pumps running, pumping water out of the non-functioning storm sewers. Most all the sites are dirt/gravel, which meant that many of them were a muddy mess after a day of rain. We had one of 2 paved sites (sites 19 and 20) so my 26,000 lb motorhome did not sink in. Not sure what would have happened on some of the muddier sites. Good location for seeing the area sights. Quiet at night. Verizon and ATT worked well. Several OTA TV stations. Many trees, but our satellite TV worked also. Note that there is just 1 dump station, and it can only handle 1 rig at a time. We camped at Fort Abraham Lincoln State Park in a Motorhome.

This is a beautiful local park on the river. Site was 30 amp electric, water, and a dump was available. Lots of deer in the park in the evening. Historically there is so much to see and do at this park be sure to tour all the buildings. We were even lucky enough to be there for an evening presentation of Mandan Flute Music and History. Be careful what site you choose. We were on an end site, 58, next to the road with river access. People walked through our site all day long rather than the road appearing annoyed that we were parked there. So much for campground etiquette. Out site was treated more like a park open space. Next time we'll choose more wisely at this campground. But this is a beautiful historic park and not to be missed. We camped at Fort Abraham Lincoln State Park in a Motorhome.

I have to admit I am really fond of state parks. This park is a real winner. Located seven miles outside of Mandan, it is quiet, spacious, and well laid out. It has all types of sites from FHU to primitive for tents (those lucky people have the riverside views.) We had an electric/water site. The only problem was that they have put the electric and water posts along the picturesque side of the site. That means that if you hook up that way, your unit will be facing the road. So we got our our longest hose and our electric cord and pulled in and ran the hose and cord under the trailer to the hook ups. Almost everyone else in the park did the same. Our site was a pull through and very long, on a curve. We did have to do some leveling. Some sites were shady and others more sunny. Restrooms were very clean but I chose our site to be near one of the two restrooms in the park but a sign said it was closed for the season so I had a longer walk than I was expecting. No wifi or cable but many over the air channels and a strong Verizon signal. Price per night was $25. plus tax but they also charge an entrance fee to the park for those who are not North Dakota residents of $7.00 a day. Park was very clean, we witnessed park rangers walking the park after a rain squall to pick up sticks that had been blown down. I would definitely stay here again if in the area. We camped at Fort Abraham Lincoln State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

What a great park. We got there on a weekend, and it was completely full, but it never felt crowded because there's so much open space. There's a great playground for kids, a river walk, historical sites to visit, and plenty of room in your own site. We stayed 5 nights and were sad to leave. It's so close to so many site seeing opportunities. We thought it was a great base for day trips and we also enjoyed coming back in the afternoons and just relaxing around the park. If we're back through the Bismark area, we'll definitely stay here again. We camped at Fort Abraham Lincoln State Park in a Motorhome.

Nice, quiet park. We brushed some trees coming into the campground and let the ground maintenance person know they might watch the height of the trees and trim them when needed. We did not have any damage, but the ranger also came over to check to see if we had damage. Hopefully they rake care of the branches for the next camper. The park has nice hiking trails and sits on the Heart and Missouri Rivers...relaxing place to be at the end of the day. We camped at Fort Abraham Lincoln State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Rate does not include the $7.00 per person park admission fee. It is another $8.00 per person to tour the Custer House and the Indian Village. Avoid the pull through sites that are designed for two RV's. All the services are on one post, so someone will have to have a long hose and power cord. Sites were dirt (mud), but level. Shower house had 3 stalls, and it would get crowded if the campground is full. No WIFI, but good OTA TV. Nice wooded location near the river. As others have stated this is a nice state park at the intersection of the Hart and Missouri rivers. We stayed here for one night on our way east and had a pull-in site with water and electric. There are a number of paths though out the park. ND state parks require a daily fee or annual pass which in not included in the above fee. This is a nice park and I would stay here again. This is a very quiet and clean park with plenty of shade and room between sites located at the confluence of the Missouri & Heart rivers. There is a great deal of history to be visited right at the park. Power (30 & 50 amp) and water are available, but no sewer. Be aware that if you stay for one night, y0u will be charged a $7.00 day use fee for two days. So the $25.00 per night now becomes $39.00 if you stay one night. Stay 2 nights, charged for 3 days. I complained about that but the gate people are only following rules. I sent an email to ND Parks and Recreation about the situation, but no response yet. There is also a one-time $8.00 fee if you book online. We camped at Fort Abraham Lincoln State Park in a Motorhome.

Lots of big rig friendly sites. No satelite on ours though. Water and 50 amp power a little stretch to reach. Spaces are nice size. Some of the pull through might be a little tricky curving around a tree. Overall very nice park. Was a little bit muddy and puddles after the rain. Enjoyed our time in Bismarck (mandam). Fee included camping plus car permit. We camped at Fort Abraham Lincoln State Park in a Motorhome.

Found this lovely state park located along the Missouri River. Lots of trees, grass and open spaces. Sites are spacious and neighbors are in sight but not even close. Our 5th wheel is 41' and our site was super big! Could have fit another trailer in. Had 50 amp electric and water at site. Sewer dump station in campground. Plenty of bike and walking trails. The reconstructed buildings of Fort Abraham Lincoln 7th Calvery is well worth the visit including the home of Lt. Col Custer and his wife. Would most definitely stay again! Very comfortable location/park. the site was just about level And it was very spacious. In hooking up it's apparent that you very much need a long long hose or a long long electric line. The connections are spaced throughout but often lock a long distance from your actual RV plug in. What is so nice about this park is its location. The views are magnificent both at the campground site and up on the hill where the block houses are. The visitor center is most informative and the commissary location has good coffee and at every location the staff is the most friendly and helpful. We did not take the tours offered but did walk a variety of trails as well as biking in the area. If you are in good shape you can bike into Mandan or there is a trolley that comes into the park from Mandan and as a tourist attraction. There is Wi-Fi on site at the visitor center and at the commissary both of which are open 9 to 5. Because we had additional computer things that we needed to do we went in to the Mandan library which is conveniently located on main street. When we looked for a place to eat away from the campsite there was only a couple of places open in town on Sunday. We ended up at the local diner which was sufficient. The town is 7 miles away from the campground and that is where you will locate a supermarket as well. I understand there's a Walmart in the area but we ended up being in Bismarck and did our additional shopping there. We did not attempt to get over air TV connectivity so we do not know if it's available. The dumpsite it is conveniently located and easy to pull in and out of. Most of the sites are pull through and almost all have electricity There is a nice walk along the river within the campground. The park is kept very clean as well as the restrooms and showers. We camped at Fort Abraham Lincoln State Park in a Travel Trailer.

We stayed 4 nights, and thoroughly enjoyed this beautiful State park! It is clean, and the staff is very friendly. We had 30 amp, and it worked well. The bathrooms and showers were clean. The Missouri River flows beside the campground. There are hiking and biking trails. Some sites require having a long hose to connect to the water spigots. There are no sewer connections, but they have a dump station. Many people fish along the banks of the Missouri River. Mandan is a few miles north. Custer's home and the Fort buildings have been restored. There are also 5 Mandan earth lodges at the former On A Slant Mandan Village that you can tour on the park grounds. The Museum on the grounds is well worth a visit to learn about the fort, the Mandan people who used to live on these grounds, and the CCC's who restored the buildings. The park is a quiet place to sleep at night. The park is conveniently located to Mandan and Bismarck. If in the area, we would definitely return to Fort Abraham Lincoln State Park to camp in our 5th wheel. We camped at Fort Abraham Lincoln State Park in a Fifth Wheel.
