We called 2 days ahead of time to reserve a spot. Service was helpful and accurate. Our site was reasonably sized given this is commercial campground in a busy area. The campground is 4 minutes from the National Park. No problems with utilities. WiFi is not fast but usable. We would return if back in this area. We camped at Red Trail Campground in a Motorhome.

Medora Musical is a must see. TR NP has beautiful views of the badlands with free roaming buffalo and horses.

The staff was very helpful and friendly. Most of the sites were back in but they helped guide you into the site They even allowed me to wash my motor home on the site for no extra $ They have a shuttle to take you to the musical and pick you up. $5.00 per person.I would stay there again if we go back that way. only reason I didn't give it a 10.The sites could use more rock on the sites. Tips for other Campers:

Medora musical is worth the cost, we attended in 2016 & 2019. Both were great family entertainment. They have different guest performances through out the summer. Both times we went they were great. First one we saw in 2016 was Freestyle Connection BMX riders doing stunts on their bikes, great show. This year was Comedian C Willi Myles - America's Everyday Comedian. He had the whole crowd laughing! No foul language or off color humor.

Only stayed one night but would like to have stayed longer. Interesting little town but real tourist trap (not in a bad way). Interesting things to see and do in the area. Gravel site, level. A little tight in and out but guided parking was a great help. Nice laundry room. Plenty of area to walk our dog. Very nice owner and manager. We camped at Red Trail Campground in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

This campground has a great location within easy walking distance to Medora and even TR National Park. Too bad it's somewhat rundown - it would benefit a lot from a serious updating. Our power and cable pedestal was damaged. Sites are close to each other, although most are shaded. The site surfaces look like they were gravel at one time, but now mostly dirt, which gets many large puddles throughout when it rains. Bathrooms were dirty, old looking with rusty surfaces and holes in walls, none of the stall door latches worked, and no lighting in the few showers. Staff was somewhat unfriendly at times when it got busy. Cable TV hookup was extra $. We camped at Red Trail Campground in a Motorhome.

Arrived a day early for our reservation elsewhere and got a site here which was conveniently located to everything and walkable to town. Had a bad check in and parking experience with a crotchety guy whose basic philosophy was...my family owns this place and you will follow our rules including following MY backing in directions as is says on the the form you signed. Mind you...I had not said a WORD prior to this except to tell my spouse to get out and do our usual back in routine...well perfected at this point. Anyway...I kept my mouth shut and just parked on the poorly kept gravel grass tight site. All utilities were fine. Cable was $3 extra. Wifi was slow. Site was level but a little muddy. Bathrooms were cobbled together, no locks on the stall doors and not particularly clean...ditto showers. The price was fair but would not come again. We camped at Red Trail Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

The northern section of TR National Park is a bit of a drive...but well worth it with a nice drive through lots of scenery and wildlife (bison herds). It is a nice complement to the loop drive in the lower section of the park. Not much Food shopping in Medora. Suggest provisioning at the Super Walmart 25 miles east in Dickinson.

This is an older park in need of some TLC. There was a long line at check-in, but everyone was processed quickly and the staff were helpful and friendly. Our back-in site was level and we were guided in by a staff member. All the utilities worked and were conveniently located. Although we didn't use the bath house, it was clean but in need of a facelift. I used the laundry facility, and although everything worked well, the room was a little scary with electrical wiring strung all over the place and in need of renovation. The park is convenient to town, but be aware that there is only 1 gas station and no grocery stores. We camped at Red Trail Campground in a Travel Trailer.

We stayed three nights at Red Trail when we had to change our plans and could not rebook into the closer and much nicer park in town. The staff was unwelcoming, unfriendly and at times down right rude. The park has been in the same family for many decades and is shows - not in a way to be proud of either. Sites are packed in to maximize profits, maintenance is lacking, you are handed written rule about you site needing to be clean at all times, dogs needing to be leash at all times, etc. For family, staff, regulars these rules are NOT ENFORCED. Sites closest to the office look like the Clampets lived there. Every day dogs charged our dogs as we walked on leash...theirs not on leads or leashes. The RV Park served a purpose - we were close to the entrance of Theodore Roosevelt Nation Park - that was our objective to be in the National Park - so Red Trail helped us achieve that at least. We camped at Red Trail Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Pros: Location. Just outside the entrance to Teddy Roosevelt National Park, 1 mile from Medora Music Festival and walking distance to town. One of two FHU RV parks in area. Not all sites are Power/Water/Sewer so be sure to specify. Weirdly placed dump station on way out of park frequently had long line. Cons: Place is a dump. Grumpy office staff seemed to be holding back snide jokes until you're out of earshot. Dirt roads are tight with low overhanging branches. Sites are dirt/crab grass and full of litter (cigarette butts, bottle caps, chicken bones...yuck) Staff-mandatory assistance to back-in to sites made comments that showed contempt for campers abilities. Sites were very narrow and rigs were packed like sardines. Neighbors slide less than foot away. Short sites force you to either park sideways in front of rig or wedge in next to camper door and adjoining rig. Absolutely nothing appealing about this place. Provision on the way as there are no groceries within 30 miles. Stay away if you can. We camped at Red Trail Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Yes, you must go to the Cowboy Steak Fondue...think meats on sticks on steroids. Medora Musical is a very entertaining revue..nice to see how patriotic and proud the American Heartland is. Teddy Roosevelt National Park is a great day trip...lots of wildlife, herd of Bison, wild horses, elk, antelope, prairie dogs...

Although the sites are very close the park is big rig friendly.....the sites are level and all backins that I saw and fhu, the services worked great, WiFi was decent and our ATT cell signal was good....no ota channels but they have 48 cable channels for $3 a day.....the showers and restrooms were clean and had plenty of hot water....the town and national park is conveniently close by...there are a lot of trains that go by but they are not allowed to blow their horn, city ordinance I heard, but they are far enough back that you only hear a small rumbling sound from them that didn't bother us.....you cannot have wood fires at this campground either, another city ordinance I was told....the staff was always busy doing something around the park, we may stay here again if nothing else in the area was available, I would rate them higher if the sites were not so close together.... We camped at Red Trail Campground in a Motorhome.

This park is definitely NOT a 6. We were very pleased with our site, the facility, the hookups and the staff. We had very level back in site and staff parked us to insure we had proper spacing for the slides and to avoid the trees. The sites are close to your neighbor but we've stayed at worse. Compared to other options for big rigs in the area, this is clearly the best location (10 minute walk to town, less than a mile to the Theodore Roosevelt National Park entrance and about a mile from the Medora Musical facility). The office has a pretty well stocked store & supplies. I think if you remember you're in the middle of western North Dakota and set your expectations appropriately, you'll be pleased with this campground. The sites have a grill, but no fire ring. Campfires are not allowed due to local ordinance. We camped at Red Trail Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

The sunset is great from the Medora Musical parking lot, even if you don't go to the show. The Pitchfork Fondue Steak dinner is served from 5:30-6:30, but you don't have to be there at 5:30. They serve right up to 6:30 and the Musical doesn't start until 7:30 so there is no reason to rush to stand in line at 5:30. The meal and the show exceeded our expectations!

It just opened a few days ago but it’s still off-season and we are the only RV here. It’s a little hard to rate since it’s empty and indoor facilities are not open. This section of the park has water on. The spaces do seem close together. Most are open with no trees or shrubs but some have a scattering of trees among them. Our site (D) is quite level and the others seem level too. It’s a two block walk to town (where very little is open too) and just across I-94 from Theodore Roosevelt National Park. No highway noise but frequent freight trains make you feel at home on the Great Plains. The $25 off-season rate for FHU pull-thru with limited amenities is fair. There’s a cable connection at the box, but I think the guy said ‘no cable’ so it’s probably not on yet. No OTA channels at all. WiFi is a nice 47 Mbps but of course no one else is using it. Each site has a picnic table and portable charcoal grill. I assume they do not allow campfires but I’m not sure of that. We camped at Red Trail Campground in a Motorhome.

When registering the employee wouldn't stop eating which I felt was rude and unprofessional. She asked how I found out about them and when I replied 'RV Park Reviews' she said "people only use that to complain" and the site was worthless! When initially making the reservation 6 weeks prior I specified I needed a level site for 43' Class A. I was put in the back at the base of a hill in the back which was basically a gravel lot. Tried to level but site was so bad both front & the right rear wheels were off the ground. Made 2 trips to office to try to get moved and was told no, others had no problem so I needed to learn how to level my coach. At the time the park appeared only half full. Another employee met me at the site and after looking at it agreed to move me from full hook-ups to W&E only, the only thing available. Office initially refused to refund the difference saying the price was the same, even though their web site indicates otherwise, and they don't give refunds. The employee who helped me move later brought the refund to me. On the campground 'rules' page a lot of words unnecessarily capitalized, which should have been a clue. Some issues with low hanging tree branches. We will never stay here again nor recommend to anyone. Overall not a bad park but prior reviews also indicate problems with the owners. We camped at Red Trail Campground in a Motorhome.

Reviews by others and in some travel blogs lowered my expectations. That said, the park was fine. I was thankful to find a park open after Labor Day. I had an electric only site with a picnic table. I was thankful for the attendant who led me to my site and assisted me with backing in. He aligned my coach so I could deploy a slide. Free WiFi. Verizon signal strong. The campground is right in town and walking distance to dining. Unfortunately, I missed the local Medora Musical season by one day. We camped at Red Trail Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

If travelling on I-94 west from Medora, the Evelyn Cameron Heritage Center in Terry, MT is well worth the stop to tour photographic images of eastern Montana in the late 1800s/early 1900s. Contact the Heritage Center via their website or Facebook page for an excellent tour. Evelyn Cameron may be the Georgia O'Keefe of the photographic world. The campground is convenient to the South Unit of Theodore Roosevelt NP.

An old campground, but close to Medora, walkable to town. $35 for W/E/cable, no sewer. A plus is the tall trees for shade in most of the campground. CG very busy in August. Owners do not appear to put much money back in the campground, as office and other facilities appear shop-worn. Best thing about this campground is that it is a close walk to downtown.
