Looks like a former KOA that has aged quite a bit. We were the only motor home in the park that appeared to be many long term residents. A place to hook up and sleep. Reasonably quiet. We camped at Buffalo Trails Campground in a Motorhome.

We spent a few days here while touristing in the area. We found the management to be helpful and the site large and easy in and out. Long term residents had clean and neat sites. Prior to arrival the owner had given us directions on how to get to campground and avoid must of the construction. Would stay here again if in the area. We camped at Buffalo Trails Campground in a Motorhome.

After reading some of the previous reviews, I wasn't expecting much. I was pleasantly surprised to find a FHU50 well spaced site. Great place to stay for a few days, just off the highway. The electrical was strong, even in the July heat. The WiFi worked great, even at a distance from the office. We would certainly stay here again. The owner is very friendly, helpful, and easy to talk to. We camped at Buffalo Trails Campground in a Motorhome.

There is a lot of road work in the area, and some re -routing will be required to find this campground. It appears to have started life as a KOA. Sites are well layed out and accessing is easy. Interior roads are gravel and very dusty. Host was very friendly and walked out to guide us into our site. For what you get, this is about $5-8 dollars over priced. But in the summer heat the power was good and we ran all 3 of our ACs. We camped at Buffalo Trails Campground in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

This is a former KOA that has been updated (larger sites than usual). It is very convenient to town. The owner was very friendly and helpful. This being western North Dakota, there are virtually no trees on the campground, only around the edges. There are both back-in and pull-through sites, and full hookups. Wifi and all utilities worked great. We will stay here again. We camped at Buffalo Trails Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Note: Route 2 in eastern Montana (from mile marker 655 west to about mile marker 625) is IMPASSABLE in a motorhome. Anything above about 20 mph will shake your fillings out! We did the whole thing with 2 wheels on the shoulder and the flashers on. Horrible! Also, the Williston Brewing Company next to the El Rancho Motel is excellent. Much busier and more upscale than we expected. Excellent food and service!

Limited options in area, back-in area has spacious sites; pull-throughs closer together. Lots of long-timers but seemed to be just fine. The state park is out of town and sites definitely not level, this is the better choice if you're just passing through and need a place to stay. Will definitely stay here when in the area again. In desperation we pulled into this campground in the pouring rain even after reading previous reviews. Only available site was "electric" only. Office said it was actually $30.00 for 30 amp electric but after-hours sign said $25.00. Site was in the middle of a weedy field surrounded by an array of dilapidated trailers, old motorhomes and junk. Will be out of here at the crack of dawn. Even locked all our hatches! We camped at Buffalo Trails Campground in a Motorhome.

At lot of permanent residents with run down trailers. It was a little creepy. Glad we were only staying for one night. The grass was over grown. There was no picnic tables. We camped at Buffalo Trails Campground in a Motorhome.

We used this as a one night stop. It is a friendly family owned park with large open sites in a field. We stayed there in a 36' 5th wheel and would use it again. We camped at Buffalo Trails Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

This CG is primarily for long-term oil workers living in towables and class Cs. Appears that in better days it was a KOA, but it has now fallen into serious disrepair. The outer door to the ladies’ restroom was missing entirely; of the three shower stalls in the men’s room one was out of order, one had the water control all taped up with electrical tape and the remaining one had no locking hardware and looked like it had been painted after the hardware had been torn off. The bath houses were as clean as can be expected for very old facilities, but several clients’ towels had been left strewn about. No cable, no WI-FI and one of the public telephones had been ripped off the wall. The workers leave their dogs at the sites all day and the dogs don’t much like it. When we were there, four children were running amok with little to no supervision, squirting water pistols in about the bath houses (turning the sand into mud) and being nipped by an unchained dog. This to be expected: it’s not that the rules aren’t being enforced, but rather that there are no rules given out in the first place. It is open field camping with no trees; at least the hookups work well. The staff was friendly enough and apparently functional, but obviously, because of the nature of the clientele, they haven’t repaired, replaced or improved anything in quite some time. TL needs to visit again, as they don’t even have the number of sites correct. All that said, we were grateful for its existence: not one hotel room was available in any of Williston’s several hotels because of the huge number of oil workers booked in. Our advice is to avoid Williston, ND entirely and find another route to or from the Canadian border. A pity, because the town and shopping looks pretty reasonable. We camped at Buffalo Trails Campground in a Motorhome.
