2 RV Parks near Fort Smith, Northwest Territories
Jul 2018 - $13.00
We were looking for a place to stay in Wood Buffalo NP that would be central to hiking trails and other points of interest in the park. We're self-contained and don't use the facilities. We stayed on a weekend in mid-July in our 8 metre (25 foot) MH. This in a nice campground centrally located in a huge national park. Note highway 5 is paved to Fort Smith as of November 2017. The 65-km (40-mile) drive from Fort Smith to the CG is on a good quality gravel road. The CG is set in a natural boreal forest. It includes 18 back-in sites in a loop that are relatively large, relatively flat with good spacing between each to allow for privacy. There are 3 larger pull-through sites nearer the beach that are flat with water views through the trees. There's a mix of sun and shade throughout the CG. The sites are primitive/no hook-ups. There's a dump station near the entrance with no rinse water. There are water spigots in the park with a boil water notice. (Note free potable water is available for RVs at the Visitor Center in Hay River if you need to fill up on the way.) There's no wifi nor cell service. Sites are all walk-in and reservations are not available. Self-register at the entrance. There are staff on site. The staff at the office in Fort Smith (867-872-7960) are quite helpful and can let you know if sites are available before you make the 65-km (40-mile) drive. We had a good choice of sites on a weekend in mid-July. The location was quite convenient for activities at Pine Lake and hiking trails in that area. Use appropriate bear and mosquito practices in the park. - dsvt

Beautiful park located in Fort Smith. We had 30 amp and filled our water tank on site. Sani dump located near water fill. Beautiful property with large sites. We easily fit our 41' 5th wheel in our site (#18). There are a total of 24 sites. Sites are set well apart and are surrounded by trees and bushes. We felt comfortable to leave our shades up as other campers were quite a distance away. Very clean showers in building next to office. Firewood available at park. Loved staying here! - SotoL-L

We were looking for a place to stay that would be convenient to points of interest and hiking in Forth Smith and the northern section of Wood Bison NP. We're self contained and don't use the facilities except for an occasional shower. We stayed on weeknights in mid-July in our 8 metre (25 foot) MH. This is a beautiful campground on the edge of Fort Smith. The staff is helpful and friendly. The CG is clean and meticulously maintained. With a new loop, there are now 24 campsites. All are pull-throughs with 15 amp service. All are large, flat, level, gravel and relatively private with a mix of sun and shade. The showers are clean with ample hot water and pressure. There's potable water and a dump station near the entrance. There's no wifi at the sites (there may be at the office, we didn't check). We had good ATT and Verizon service while roaming on the local service. - dsvt
