This park is part of Portage Lakes State Park. It's located some distance from Portage Lakes State Park. I initially went to Portage Lakes State Park only to find there was a sheet with directions to Nimisila. It was not possible to follow the directions and drive a motorhome. Neither the street address or a geographic location was on the sheet for us Garmin and Tom Tom users. I finally figured out the intersection of Christman and Nimisila Roads. The actual address is 5550 Christman Road. Only 6 sites have electricity. - grafxman
Aug 2017 - $10.00
Terrible to get to. Gps takes you on dirt / stone roads. Coast to Coast gets put in a section that is so close together your awning about touches the next campers slide out. We arrived on Tuesday so there were a ton of open sites that were very nice along the river. After several trips to the office, we were finally offered a nice water side site. Apparently it is not a first come first serve camp and they restrict all the nice sites for their members. Once on site, very beautiful campground. Bath house has great tile and clean. Very well maintained grounds. Pool is a little small and there are no bathrooms by it. Nice playground and even a section for dogs to run and play. Gets very busy and congested on the weekend. - Djesky
Jun 2017 - $10.00
No Wifi or cable available. Sample Cabin, but no real ones to use. Bathrooms and showers clean. Camp store is acceptable and has most of the things you need. Pool, Mini Golf, and kids toys. Riverside camping. Nice Campground but very few full hook ups (I think there are only 5). - Donulus
Oct 2016 - $1.00
Camped here for 10 years. Owned for 7 years. Bought into this with alot of false promises. 5 year plan has not happened. All the good staff has left. No one can keep their stories straight. Wish we could get our money back. Not what was promised. Old timers told us after we bought in. Wish we would have known. Do not buy into there false promises. - Unhappy camper -14
Jul 2016 - $35.00
Showers old and limited for size of park. Pit toilets, plug your nose! Sites on the river cost $5.00 more. Shows Passport America discounts but very limited time frame. Watch for low limbs on trees on several campsites.
Camp store sells a decent pizza and they sell carry out beer. - Wi1dBi11
Apr 2016 - $20.00
Found this park was decent for a couple of nights. It was rainy while we were there and we found that the roads leading to the sites turned to mud slicks. Gravel is definitely needed! There are some seasonal RVs scattered about but there's plenty of spaces for guests. The site was gravel with a concrete patio. Our site backed up to the beautiful Mohican river. The owners were super nice & very helpful. - sbelle55
Oct 2014 - $30.00
This is a fantastic getaway and a great place to camp. Right on the river with spectacular views. Basic sites with plenty of room for our 40' RV. The owners and staff are fantastic. Pizza and wings on site. Recreation area with a pool, corn hole and volleyball and a basketball hoop. No sewer hook ups but they do have a honey wagon and a dump station. Perfect for a getaway and in a great location for canoeing and Amish country. We highly recommend this campground!! - jnlo
Jun 2014 - $40.00
We have been camping for years, all around Ohio and Mohican. WORST EXPERIENCE EVER! Rude owner and staff. Owners favorite word starts with "F", even around our children! Park was swamped with recent rains and staff wouldn't help make the situation better. They said they had bales of straw available to cover the mud but it was $5 a bale! Price gouging instead of helping the campers that were trying to make the best of the weekend. We will continue to camp on the river but it will be anywhere but Mohican Reservation. Beware! - User3518
Aug 2010 - $30.00
We have stayed here many times over the past 2 years in a pop up and rented river cottages, and we always have a blast. The staff is very friendly, the owner drives through several times a day, and the staff enforces the rules. Between cleanings the bathrooms get messy because campers make a mess but they do their best to keep it clean for all to enjoy. We've stayed at all the campgrounds on Wally and always come back here. 2011 new bathrooms will be built. River sites are best. - Javaboxer
Jul 2010 - $30.00
Enjoyed the campground and will return next year. Spent 2 weeks at this campground on a lot overlooking the river which resulted in a lot of entertainment. Difficult entrance way and exit for a 40ft 5th wheel and the lack of a sewer hookup was a problem. Low hanging power lines is trouble for a big rig and we had to have a spotter walking beside the rig to make sure we could clear them with only a couple of inches to spare. - dilligaf1
Oct 2016 - $35.00
We stayed at this campground with friends for a local Octoberfestival. Great service and most of the time the owners are in the camp office. Most sites are seasonal guests, but great access to the river. - sadkins6
Oct 2008 - $25.00
We stayed right on the river, it was very peaceful. This park has many seasonal campers and most must be big Ohio State fans, lots of OSU flags flying. They set up a TV in the pavilion and had a big bon-fire during the game. The sites were on the small size. Toilets were pit latrines. Each lot is serviced by back to back electric and water hydrants. Close to Amish towns and farms. - myriad
Jul 2017 - $48.00
Older park, mostly uphill, not easy to park, problematic during rains. Deluxe patio site next to sewer field!! Pool not close to campground but clean. Restrooms next to pool terrible. Restrooms and washer/dryer next to office dated. - Roadkraut
Jul 2016 - $83.00
I guess when you are the only game in town, you can soak folks. On top of the pricey rate they charge extra for kids. $93.00 a night in the sticks is criminal. And for that you can tote your own rubbish, as they don't pick it up. They don't escort you to your site and the "store" is the most dismal excuse for a camp store. It's even dusty.
On the plus side they have good directional signage off I-77.
We had a lovely site. But as the case, a little too close. These patio sites are nice, but have a grand view of A HUGE regional landfill. The buzzards circled several times. There had to be 50 to 100 buzzards in the air.
Then there is the air. Don't know if it's there septic system or the landfill. It stunk so bad we could not enjoy the outside facilities.
The design separates seasonal and over night guest. It a pretty good design. The mini golf looks (we did not play) among the best.
A nice KOA. But the Keep on Adding on, kills the deal. - wdw
May 2016 - $75.00
Stayed over a popular weekend, as we traveled across the country. We were told only a premium site was available when we called ahead to make reservations. A "premium" site was a narrow pull through site with roadway on both sides of us. When we pulled out our awning, it was into the roadway at the front of the motorhome so we ended up not using the awning. Restroom had a severe sewer odor the entire weekend, even after office staff was advised. The "pond" is really a water runoff collection site with unusable equipment sitting at the edge. No phone reception or internet access even though we were among the closest sites to the office. To add insult, there was a premium charge for having 2 children with us. This is not a place I would stay at again. We travel for months at a time and have done so for years. This review is not because I am overly picky! - Ms Winnie
Sep 2018 - $40.00
Very helpful staff. Clean and well landscaped and well maintained. The race track nearby was very loud at night, after midnight, on weekends. The noise kept us awake. Very small laundry room, only two washing machines. - Mnolasco
Sep 2017 - $45.00
The pool is the newest feature at this park. The sites are level. The playground needs to be a little updated. - Stacie C
Jul 2017 - $46.00
Excellent family campground located on former farm with a variety of trails and ponds. The staff were friendly and helpful. The weekend had live music including Santa for Christmas in July. Interesting pool 3' deep with a ramp access that could fit a wheelchair. The campsites were tight with picnic table and fire ring. The low number sites are near the septic pump which runs 24x7 and takes away from the peaceful location. The seasonal sites are separate from transients and it was interesting that they are parallel to the road with generally spacious front yards. - John-Jean
Jun 2015 - $44.00
We spent 4 days at Mohican Wilderness and had an absolute blast. The sites are huge and allow you to open up facing the river. We had two sites that had a nice, gentle, slope into the river that allowed easy access for all the kids to play. The facilities met our expectations. We are seasoned campers and although the restrooms did have cobwebs and such in the rafters...we fully expected that. The shower stalls and toilets were clean and "airy". There were flush toilets in the shower house. The "pit" toilets...were just that. But there really no fly's and no smells. So for that, we were very pleased. The swimming pond was very clean and had a nice blue hue to it. The best part for us...was there were no "off-limits" for our two dogs. We have been to campgrounds before where dogs couldn't swim in the swimming ponds. Not here. Are dogs really enjoyed swimming with kids and getting a good work out in. Staff was friendly and accommodating. The store had plenty of goodies that one may need in a pinch. And they even had an ice cream truck that made a couple of appearances. Although they offered put-put, archery, shooting range, horse back riding, we did not have the time to do so. But this gives the kids something different to try next time. We have already booked an October trip to see the fall foliage. - KZ_camper
May 2015 - $35.00
I have been camping at Mohican Wilderness since the 80's. For the most part, nothing has changed and Mohican Wilderness Delivers a great laid back and rustic camping trip. I have been camping up and down the river and Wilderness has the best river front sites and a lot of them! The new office and store front, built in 2015 is very nice. Restroom and showers are rustic as well. This campground is meant to take you back to a simpler time. If you are looking for campgrounds with a pool, jacuzzi, WiFi, etc, then Wilderness is not for you. If you are looking to relax in gorgeous scenery with plenty of your own space, then Mohican Wilderness is for you. - Puncheon
Jun 2014 - $42.00
We were a little concerned about this campground, since the latest review on this site was from 2011, but we decided to give it a try based on their description of campsite size. We had no trouble finding the campground. Part of the road was gravel but it was in good shape. Might not be after heavy rain. When we got to the gate there was a sign that said the maximum height was a little over 11 feet. We have a 12 1/2 ft motorhome. The girls in the gatehouse said that the roof used to extend over the entrance road causing the low limit. There was also a tree there with low hanging branches that would probably hit the top of our motorhome. We went around to the left of the building which was more open. The girls checking us in were very friendly. After checking us in they just left us to find our way to our site. We had to ask for a map with directions showing the best way to get to the site. The interior roads were part paved and part gravel, relatively narrow with low hanging tree limbs. Our site was unlike any we have had before. It was on the river. From the road to a tree line before the river was at least 70 - 80 feet. From the tree line it was another 40-50 feet to the river. Between campsite hook-ups was about 100 ft. They are side by side hook-ups. We were able to back in to the hook-up parallel to the road so our patio was facing the river. Down a small hill from there was an area for a campfire. The area where we chose to park was fairly level grass. All the sites are grass, which could be a problem after heavy rains. We didn't use any of the facilities there. The restrooms were latrines. We did not check out the showers. If you choose to take a canoe trip they have their own canoe livery which will take you up river to start your trip which will end at the campground. Their park rules say that quiet time starts at 11 PM and was strictly enforced but there was a large group of campers near us that had a very loud party well after that. Perhaps the campground should have someone patrol the grounds after 11 to enforce the rule. Overall we would stay here again for just the size of the campsites. - User3125
Jul 2016 - $27.00
We were here with a group or would have not selected this facility. The bathrooms are falling apart. The campground is activity oriented not so much RV oriented. Lots of cabins. Fire rings in use smoldered so bad it was difficult to stay outside at night time. Many restrictive rules plus you must sign an agreement that releases their liability even for neglect. It contains a arbitration clause and they insist that you wear their wrist band for the duration of stay.
We will choose not return to this facility in the future. - Travelall
Jul 2016 - $100.00
The park is very large and has a lot to do for kids and adults. Nice options on facilities great store. Great location easy to find. How many different size sites. Great family campground for all age range of kids. - Fireball1
Sep 2015 - $45.00
Good: Location (across from Canoe livery), clean restrooms, great service staff, indoor pool, fishing.
Needing Improvement: Sites are tight and navigation in and around campground tight, Lake not clean enough or me to swim in with lots of algea and moss floating on top. - DoubleEE
