Great stay return from Ca to S Fl on I-40. Even ended up parked next to a fellow Dynamax. Very rare occurrence , even a sighting relatively rare and we travel 12-15K in our Dynamax each year and numerous campgrounds throat US. - ss89
Nov 2017 - $15.00
Beautiful park. RV sites right on a small lake. Quiet, 30 amp power and water and WiFi! Late November and we had our pick of sites. We came from North on small windy roads which were ok for our 27 ft. MH. We would return and stay for a few days to enjoy the trails and water. - USA16RVer
Apr 2013 - $15.00
The reason for this review is to let everyone know this park may have access for "big rigs," but it is certainly not big rig friendly! We have a 45' motorhome and love staying at parks like this, so based on previous reviews that said this was big rig friendly, we took a chance. First sign of trouble was low bridge shortly after turning off the interstate. Fortunately it was 13'9" clearance, so our awning sensors and cb antenna made it through ok. Next challenge was the extremely narrow two lane road on the way to the park. We don't mind 7 miles off the interstate. We do mind having to "white knuckle" it when a truck comes from the opposite way. Fortunately, we made it to the park with side mirrors intact. Again, extremely narrow up and down roads to get to park and once inside park. Saturday night so only site available that was long enough was on the lake - nice! Problem was, you had to come from the other way to get into it, and to get the other way you had to navigate an even narrower road -up down and around - with BIG trees immediately next to the road. After the whole fiasco of just getting to the park, we decided not to chance our mirrors again and left. We were highly disappointed because it really was a lovely park, it's just not in the least big rig friendly. - hddebbie

Aug 2016 - $19.00
From a big rig perspective only; I have a 42' tag. Low hanging branches on narrow paths in the park were a problem. This is more a 5th wheel, tow trailer type of park and I would not recommend it for most Class A units, especially 40' or longer. Also, unless you have a portable satellite, satellite is not usable in this park. Verizon, AT&T work OK but the park WiFi was better and pretty good.
The park itself is not a bad place. A little noise from Highway 59 but not so bad. Nice pines, quiet. I had to smile some because their park rules state you must keep your site clean, yet, there were many permanent/long term campers that kept their sites anything but clean and uncluttered.
I would return with a different rig but not with the big rig. - R_R PRanger
May 2015 - $19.00
We would of liked it better if the restrooms didnt have mold in them. We stayed there because our son lived close by and we were traveling through and wanted to visit. The price was good with the PA discount . The sights were level they were concrete strips. We would stay again if we had too. - cindy coffey
Apr 2015 - $19.00
This is an old, tree covered park, but well maintained except for fallen leaves, and picnic tables need paint. Some full-timers with typical outside storage items. Gravel roads with adequate travel width and high-branched trees. An eclectic mix of gravel, paved and concrete pads, all level. There are four short-term 30 amp pull-thrus with double-strip concrete pads; the three short-term 50 amp pull-thrus were gravel. It rained every day and night, but the roads and pads, with a few low spot exceptions, drained well leaving the surfaces useable. Utilities were serviceable; antenna TV reception was excellent. AT&T cell was adequate; park internet was adequate for web surfing when others were not using it. The indoor pool is available only in the summer. Some road noise, but quiet at night. Excellent value with PA. Would return. - LoneWolf

Nov 2018 - $40.00
Office personnel was friendly and knew the area. Gave us a lot of great ideas for things to see. This is a family oriented park. Very quick and easy check in process and the hookup went quickly without any issues. The roads in the park were gravel. Site was gravel and dirt. Had a lot of rain during our visit and had lots of mud around unit. Mostly level. Many big beautiful trees but was still satellite friendly. Had cable TV but we didn't use it. Picked up 15 OTA channels. Wi-Fi was fair most of the time. Verizon worked well. Nice dog park. Nice playground that was well taken care of. lots of equipment. Basketball and volleyball courts. Showers and Rest rooms were neat and clean. Laundry room was neat and clean. Washer $1.75. Dryer $1.25. Picnic table needed some repair. Fire ring. Pool was closed for the season. Will definitely stay here again. - Roamer on wheels
Oct 2018 - $40.00
Only an overnight stay but very nice campground with friendly staff. Long, wide, site with enough room to stay hooked. Pool was open later in the season due to warm weather. Didn't use it but many people did. Attractive landscaping around the office. Trees and grass at sites. - lce3
Oct 2018 - $45.00
Average KOA. Sites spaced apart alright with packed dirt surfaces and grass between sites but park overall lacked appeal. There was shade. The staff members were pleasant and helpful. We had to exit the park and turn around in a parking lot nearby to re- enter to the propane filling station near the office. The dog park was ok with lots of leaves and shade. A little muddy. Convenient one night stay. - Andrea W

Sep 2018 - $10.00
Good overnight stay. We have dogs and look for green space for them to get some off leash exercise. Our campsite was ample for us and overlooked the lake. Quiet and only 4 other campers. One section is older and it was obvious many had bottomed out their trailers entering so beware. We stayed at the first loop as you go in and entrance was fine. Site was level. Electric and water. Camp host was not manning station and came around to collect. Half price for Senior national park pass. - busyteach
May 2008 - $7.00
Very nice, this is a COE campground, regular price is $15. but with golden age card get it for $7.50, sites are right on lake, but campground is hard to find and signs are not good, but worth it once you get there, will say again - jim1

Picnic tables are on the wrong side. Trees need to be trimmed, they will hit your trailer in many sites. Some sites are so close together you cannot pull out your awning without hitting the trailer next to you. Grass needs to be mowed. I tried calling the park office several times during a weekday, no one answers. - Ilona
May 2017 - $25.00
Nicely maintained state park with reasonably clean restrooms and showers. Several different camping areas within the park - some with more services and higher cost than others. Premium sites are even more, and the quoted rate does not include a utility surcharge which can almost double your cost, in some cases. The park is surrounded by water but, unfortunately, except for a handful of places, you would hardly know it. The State has apparently decided to allow the foliage to grow wild along the shorelines, and in most places, it totally obscures the view. No water views from the campgrounds. Plenty of walking trails and a good place to visit if you bring a boat. Swimming, Frisbee golf, etc available. Very family friendly; pets OK. Bring bug spray - we were there in May and the ticks were horrible! - Rusty Tailpipe
Aug 2015 - $18.00
Had reserved for Chicken Creek but got wrong directions off internet, so ended up at Tenkiller. At Tenkiller wanted to stay in water/electric only for one night. Ended up at Fox Squirrel Camp when couldn't find working electric and nearby water in that camp and got stung by wasp when lifting electric hookup box cover!! Fox Squirrel site was excellent with a grill and table and nearby clean restroom! - Ann_Dave

Jun 2018 - $49.00
Very nice park and very secure...had to have a gate code to get in. Nice pools (2) and lots to do for kids including being right on the Illinois River. The only down side is that, for an RV park in the woods, it is very expensive. Over $50 a night (without discount) is very high. - Old GI
Apr 2018 - $54.00
Management is horrible - very rude and condescending. They drive by constantly checking to be sure you aren't doing anything wrong. They are so bad that a sweet elderly couple that works here told us they both quit this morning because management is so bad. We cannot wait to leave and would leave today if we could get a refund. They call themselves a "resort" - come on now. My site is muddy. They hate dogs and people with dogs so if you are a dog lover/ owner like we are, do yourself a favor and do not stay here. There is a State Park not far from here - I went to find another campground to stay at next time we are in this area -- they are very nice and only $25/ night. "You never know who you are talking to, but always know who's watching you". Lots to do for children, but no privacy and nosy staff. They are not dog people. Clearly. Mine is a 12 year old beagle that doesn't do much, never barks and is never outside unattended. - STharp
Sep 2017 - $1.00
I've been there multiple times and it is a clean family friendly park. However, when there is a mistake the managers will not own up to it. In 2016 I had made reservations for specific cabins for Labor Day 2017. About two weeks before the weekend, I emailed them to confirm the cabin numbers and was told we did not have the cabins I had booked. I was able to rebook a smaller cabin, but they would not refund the difference. When booking you need to ensure that you get everything in writing in the event there is an issue. - Ralph Gragg

We visited Strayhorn Landing after the season when it is "manned". We had a beautiful site up high overlooking the lake. Even though it was fall, the weather was great too. The site was plenty long for our 43' motorhome and room to park the Jeep in front.
The water connections were shared between two sites; we had a Y-splitter so used it so we could both have access to water. - pattic777
Jul 2016 - $20.00
Campground on a peninsula overlooking Lake Tenkiller. Easy access to water. Sites are basic with water and electric. Some sites share water spigots. Fully tree lined asphalt access road and sites. Sites level with hookups correctly laid out for back-in parking. Strayhorn Marina close by as well as swimming beach, boat ramp for campers use, and no real strict parking so can have your boat or jet ski up near the RV. Restrooms with no a/c, but clean. Campground gate closes nightly 10:00 PM for security. Online reservation is the easiest way to secure a site. Reserved and first come sites available. No dog park. - drw-cpa
Apr 2016 - $20.00
We stayed here in the off season, but it was still relatively crowded. They have a nice split of reservable and non-reservable sites, but in the summer I don't know if I would take the chance of driving in without a reservation. The non-reservable sites probably have better lake views (especially sunrise/sunset views, but some of them share water so be aware of that. The park was well mowed and as clean as can be expected for a lake campground (in our experience, many lake campers and boaters in this area are not great at cleaning up after themselves). We stayed at site 6 which was perfectly level and had a little shade but not much privacy. Tenkiller Lake is less muddy and red than a lot of Oklahoma lakes and there is quite a bit to do in the area. As always in Oklahoma, watch out for ticks! We will stay again, for sure. - wulfleton

Mar 2017 - $20.00
This state park is on a high peninsula sticking out into the lake. The park has a few shade trees but it is more exposed than not. We arrived in on a day that hit 92F and we baked. The wind was high and our trailer rocked and rolled with the blasts. There were wild fires south and west of us and the smoke was very thick so we didn't go out much. Overall it is a rather standard state park with spaces somewhat closer than I would like. There are some sites with sewer, and since we wanted to do laundry we took one, but they are immediately adjacent to the dump site which meant stink and a lot of traffic. One thing we did really enjoy was there was a spring eruption of migrating birds so we got to see a huge variety of birds in large flocks including northern flickers, woodpeckers, jays, chickadees, juncos, starlings, blackbirds, nuthatches and several other species. We stopped here to be close to the Cherokee Heritage Centre which is 15 miles away. We thoroughly enjoyed the Heritage Centre and the coincidence of the spring migration but otherwise there was nothing special or noteworthy about the park. Regarding service basically there is none. This is a "self serve" park. You arrive and there is no one there, no information at the gate and no directions on what to do. You find a site you like without a "reserved sign" on it and then you park. There are no additional services like firewood. Eventually the very nice and well informed ranger will find you so you can pay him. The ranger knew every local site and had lots of tips. - Judy Birchland
May 2016 - $24.00
When we arrived, we could not find anyone to help us. All areas were closed except one, which had poor camping pads, water connections 20 feet away, uneven, and very close together. We decided to leave the same day. In my judgment, this CG is a disaster. - Jim Butler
Mar 2014 - $14.00
This is a typical state operated park, clean and well maintained with plenty of room at each site. The campground is surrounded on three sides with water and the views are great. Fire rings, grills, and picnic tables at most sites. Friendly and helpful staff. - Dave Cole

Arrived around 5pm after driving in 7 hrs of rain. Rang the "evening" bell, lady came right out, and proceeded to explain the area, grounds, cable booster deposit. then, altho still raining, drove her golf cart directly to our site, helped us get aligned, said if any problems the ph #'s were on our paperwork. Due to all the rain, we had to put a length of 2X8 in front of the tower to safely access the outlets, but the actual gravel pad was fine, level & mostly dry. once all hooked up & operational, hooked up the cable booster, hoping to watch the Redsox kick butt, but could not get the booster to work, tv showed "call 1-800-bla-bla". so figured cable was out due to the heavy rains, but since we had the office #, decided to just ask. The lady said, now dig this, "wait a couple minutes, ill send someone down and get you working". Was she serious? Its past 8pm, sat nite, raining, and shes sending someone??? true enuff, a man came down, showed me we simply need to shut (our) cable booster off (sumthing i didnt know about as we're only 1st year rv'ers), and the cable worked perfectly. We were so grateful (and kinda embarrassed) that we didnt think to give him a tip, altho next day we did a little sumthing for them. next day we did laundry, clean, adequate, (bring 1/4's), trash barrels easy access, and we were off. We have been learning new things about our rv each stop, from NC, to Lake Tahoe (north route) and back to NC (thru az, texas, etc), but wont forget the folks at Park Ridge!! - mike & rosie johnson
Jun 2018 - $41.00
We stayed here for 3 nights at this lovely park. The spaces side-by-side were close, but long enough for our 37 ft. motorhome and towed vehicle. Plenty of nice shade trees in most of the spaces, which were not numbered. Our space was level on gravel with grass between. Shared 30 and 50 amp available, water good pressure and dump was not bad. I did not use the laundry, because there was only one working washer and unsure of the 4 dryers. The room was dirty and unacceptable to use. However, the ladies bathrooms (2) were individual and clean with shower, toilet and sink. We enjoyed our stay here and the lady in the office was very helpful and pleasant. Some of the spaces were tight to get into with many trees between, but do-able. Will stay here again next time we come to Van Buren. - We3Travel
May 2018 - $35.00
Due to a breakdown enroute, we had a reservation, cancelled it, and re-instated it. We got the last 50a site available, paying in the office on arrival at 5:15pm. $35 a night for the weekly rate with Good Sam discount seems a bit on the high side, but it is what is it. We had a nice pull through site under the trees with plenty of toad parking, but impossible to get our satellite TV. A cable box was available with a $70 deposit, but that would only serve one of our TVs so we passed, getting by on about 18 local OTA channels. Be sure you use a water pressure gauge as mine indicated 112psi. Sewer fittings are slip-in and the neighbor's overflowed when I dumped my tanks. We had a peaceful week there and will stay again to visit family. - AFChap
