Overall Rating:

The best things about this park is what it doesn't have: * No dump station * No playground * No laundry * No camp store * No bicycle/canoe rentals * No visitor centre * Mostly unserviced sites In sacrifice of these typical amenities. Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority instead provides a clean, safe, quiet well-maintained conservation area with campsites where campers can simply enjoy nature. It's all about slowing your roll at Big Bend. Big Bend is very secluded and a great place to just get away from it all and just rest. The park is halfway between Chatham and London in the middle of rural no-mans-land, there is absolutely no noise or light pollution. During our two night stay there were only three other sites booked, making this southwestern Ontario gem unjustly ignored and underappreciated! We almost had the whole park to ourselves. There are five fully serviced sites out of about thirty. Two are just inside the park entrance and although those two lack privacy it didn't matter - there were no other sites booked around us. The other two are just up the road (sites 21, 22) and both have excellent privacy. Both of those are probably booked first. The comfort station is a simple cinder block building with two toilets and one small shower. Soap and t.p. was kept stocked. Always clean. A very friendly and helpful LTVCA employee appeared early in the evening on both days of our stay to welcome us and appraise us of the rules and general info we needed to know. You can buy firewood from him at $10/bag, delivered right to your site. Incidentally. If you need anything else, nearby Newbury and Glencoe have lots of stores to buy eggs, bread, butter, etc. Families with RVs expecting a "resort" style stay will be disappointed, but campers looking to get away from it all and relax will love Big Bend. We camped at Big Bend Conservation Area in a Tent Trailer.
