3 RV Parks near Shuniah, Ontario
Aug 2018 - $37.00
The park road from the entrance to the office is in terrible shape - way too many potholes and bumps in the pavement. Office staff was friendly and efficient. Our site was a level gravel and sand pull-through. There was a little too much sand in the gravel which ended up inside our motorhome. There are some sites that are grass and while they were probably cleaner, they didn't look as level. We had full hookups with cable TV. Electric. Cable TV and water were located in the middle while the sewer was further back towards the rear. The only extension needed was for the sewer. Electric and water worked fine, but the sewer outlet was slightly uphill and I was forced to lift the hose, so it would drain properly. The site had a table and fire ring as well. There are some 50 amp sites where you can have a patio as well. The cable TV only had 7 channels and since they were analog, picture size was reduced. One channel was fuzzy intermittently. Wi-Fi was very weak because it was coming from the office hotspot. It worked occasionally, but most of the time it was pretty useless. Noise was a concern at times. Our site was next to the playground and when kids have fun... and when nothing was heard there then the highway noise popped up. The only reason we stayed here was due to location and for one night it was okay. - Onemoretrail

This is a very nice KOA Holiday with a lot of amenities (mini-golf, horseshoes, shuffleboard, 2 heated pools, kids water zone, big dog park). The roads could use a little upgrading, especially the entry road which was very bad. Our site was fairly big with nice grass and there are mature trees, but very little other landscaping. Our Dish satellite worked fine, but you have to find a site that will let you shoot between the trees. Their free Wifi never worked right and kept going out or was very slow. Unfortunately our Verizon hotspot didn't work either as this place is pretty remote. We had a site with sewer, but they offer a dump station for a $30 fee (kind of pricey). Our main reason for downgrading the rating is it is right next to the highway and there is a train in the distance, so not quiet and tranquil. Also, the pool area had loud music blaring all afternoon and had way too many people in them, so we never went in. - Hands For Him
Sep 2017 - $85.00
This KOA is just OK. There are dirt interior roads. Some sites are grass and or gravel. Wifi OK. NO CABLE TV at our site with was delux site. Road noise. Great people in office. Standard KOA. Strange that the premium sites don't have cable but are in he trees preventing satellite connection. Hum.....wifi pretty good no streaming capability though. - jeffnbarb

Wanted to give an updated review as last one was from 2016. Agree with the reviews here - very nice park, lots of hiking trails and biking trails, sits on a beautiful lake with access to a lot of other lakes in the area. It is a bit of a haul off the main highway, so if you are just looking for an overnight pull in, you have other options in the area that are right off the highway. But if you are looking to stay a few nights, I would definitely recommend it. - Tony and Becky
Oct 2016 - $41.00
Like the other reviewers have said, this campground is about 35 km off of Hwy 17, but well worth the trip to it. It is a huge campground with quite a few sites on the lake. The 200's sites are best suited for MH's but there were many other sites that would also be acceptable, they just wouldn't be on the lake.
If you are using electrical be sure you have at least 75' of power cord as the outlets are spaced between two sites and can be a long ways away from your unit.
They have a very nice Visitor center with canoes, kayaks, and bikes available for rent. There is a beautiful sand beach. Besides the lake, the main attraction in this park is the numerous hiking and biking trails. Some short, some very long and difficult (Sleeping Giant).
The park is so nice we seriously considered staying an extra night, but just couldn't fit it into our schedule. We will definitely return to this park.
About 12km before the park is a road that goes to the Lake Superior Thunder Bay overlook. Warning, do not attempt to drive on this road with anything bigger than a car. It is a winding, steep and pothole filled road, but the view at the end is worth it. - cagvc
Sep 2016 - $45.00
This is a remote park on a peninsula near Lake Superior. It is a fair distance from the Trans Canada Highway, but a nice park with lots of areas for hiking. Campground is narrower. RVs fit in the 200 area at the far end, with some campsites having a view of the lake. Campsites on the upside of the lake have a view of trees that are mostly dead from about 8' down, so even though you have privacy, it's not ideal to look at. We were here in September and the roads and trails get fairly muddy. The beach area is pretty and the only place we could get wifi. You can bring your portable there to get good cell reception with pleasant scene. - JBick
Aug 2013 - $35.00
As someone else has said, the folks here are great and very accommodating. While their website did say the business was for sale, it is not, and that is good for us all! Yes, the 30 amp power is a tad on the 25 amp side but if you are an RVer and do not use a protective power supply transformer then . . . what more can I say. We stayed here for three days on our way to Dryden and will stop by again on our way home. Place is spotless and level with easy access. - Aftica
Aug 2013 - $35.00
Very friendly personnel who allowed us to choose our site so that we could be assured satellite reception. They only have 30 amps and it is not good clean power. We had to run a cord from another lot because we could not get consistent power. Nice location; clean and well kept. Electric is only problem. Nice stop for a couple of days. - Freedom Bus
Jun 2013 - $35.00
This is a really nice tent and RV park with grass sites (ours was level), 30 amp electric, water, decent Wi-Fi, and sewer, 7 miles east of Nipigon. It is well maintained by very friendly and helpful owners and a peaceful place to stay. It has a small laundry with one washer and one dryer at $2 (loonies) to wash and dry. Right on Highways 11&17 with some road noise. - nedmtnman
