We camped here to see Fort William the next morning. I called for reservations several hours before arriving. A "serviced" site offers power and water and a "non-serviced" site does not. This is parking on a very large open grassy field with "roads" graded into the field (covered with gravel). There is some slope to the sites but I had no difficulty getting level. This is definitely a "parking" type of site not a destination campground. Campground Check Out time was NOON. This did NOT work well for us as the first tour at the Fort was at 10:15. I wanted to spend much more time at the Fort than 2 hours!! I asked at the desk and they extended checkout till 1pm for me. That simply did not give us enough time at the Fort. Next time we come, I'll arrive in the afternoon and camp the night, devote the entire next day to enjoying the Fort and its activities, spend a 2nd night in the campground, and then leave the following day. Be careful walking outside - there were hundreds of Canadian Geese strutting around while we were there and avoiding their droppings was difficult. The restroom facilities were sub-par. Two trailers were parked at the end of the campground. There are about 4 steps up into the trailer and inside are two RV style toilets... small and in narrow spaces. I sure recommend going to the Visitor Center and using their bathroom there - it is large, clean, tiled, and equipped with real flush toilets! I didn't go into the shower trailer but it looks like 4 separate showers were built into a trailer. We camped at Fort William Historical Park RV Park in a Motorhome.

This is a very good if not excellent historic themed park. It has a lot going on from canoe retails, to history about the fir trading. The park is very clean and well kept. As for the camping we stayed in a 36 MH and to get level had to put blocks under front jacks to gain enough height, and block the front tires. The sites are all on a grassy hill over looking the river (very nice) however when it rains and it did the ground became soft and everything sank alittle more into the grass. A very nice table and fire ring was with each site, power 50amp was great as was water pressure. The bathrooms and showers were in fancy trailers. They did not go out of there way to make real bathroom. Dump station on the side of the road that comes into the park. To me the park is great for many things but they need a little follow through on the camping part. We camped at Fort William Historical Park RV Park in a Motorhome.

A lovely, grassy, roomy, quiet park. The park sits on a knoll overlooking the river and Fort William. There is a lot to see and do at Fort William; historic re-enactments, canoe and kayak rentals, interactive exhibits and lots more. Great place for kids and adults. The RV sites are roomy but hookups are shared with the site next to you. Some sites have water and power. Free, easy access dump station at entrance to park. Access is easy with lots of adjacent open space for kids and dogs. The park has trailers for rent by the night. They are reasonable and great for a family or friends camping trip. We camped at Fort William Historical Park RV Park in a Motorhome.

As stated above, take in all Fort William has to offer. The marina park in Thunder Bay is worth a visit. Anyone from Western Canada or the States will be in shock over the diesel prices. If you're reading this from outside Ontario....fill up.

The historical park is amazing, we spent a whole day on a tour and just exploring. For anyone interested in the history of the settling of the Americas this is one of the best exhibits we have visited. Now I have to say the negative. The provided showers and restrooms are just portable units basically glorified porta potties. They do have excellent restrooms in the visitors center so that helped. That said it is a beautiful setting with views of the river and rolling countryside. We camped at Fort William Historical Park RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

This campground is actually just a row of RV utility posts with 30 amp electricity and water for 10 RVs located on the Fort William grounds just beyond the parking lot. There are also 8 travel trailers for rent and a few dry camping sites. A sewer dump station is nearby and the toilets and showers are in a trailer. Check-in is inside the fort visitor center. Even though it is not really a campground it is a comfortable and quiet place to stay for a few days. The grounds are a huge grassy field so there is plenty of space to walk and exercise a large dog. The electricity and water were good and the wifi worked very well. The fort is a re-creation of the largest fur trading fort in the world in 1816. It is very well done and is worth at least a full day. We camped at Fort William Historical Park RV Park in a Motorhome.

Fort William is worth at least one day. We also enjoyed the awesome Kakabeka Falls, the inspiring Terry Fox Memorial, the 3 amethyst mines, and Ouemet Canyon. There was plenty of shopping available in Thunder Bay.

We arrived before the 8:00pm deadline for checking in but staff was already gone for the day so we had no help trying to find our sites. In the end we figured it out and everything was fine. Thankfully we had booked ahead so it didn't really matter too much. We arrived on a Sunday which meant we missed out on all the extra activities in the park, but it looked great and everything was very clean and nice. It was too bad we missed the fun. Showers and bathrooms were in a trailer which was different, but great. Showers were super clean and so nice not to have a timed shower. We camped at Fort William Historical Park RV Park in a Tent Trailer.

Reservation for the powered sites during summer. Pay at campground at museum office, after hours there is a cash box. Power 115 volts stable. Sewer only at a Dump Station, easily accessible. The site has open areas for kid to play. Big Rig friendly. Convenient to Fort William Museum and fort. There are shuttles to take you to the fort or can walk a wilderness pathway to the fort. Very convenient to city of Thunder Bay (20 min). Located right on the grounds of Fort Williams Historical Park. Watch out for goose droppings as you walk the manicured lawn near the boat launch. Incredibly well done living history recreation in the historical park. Do experience it. Fantastic poutine at the Bowladrome in downtown Thunder Bay. Kakabeca Falls is worth the dtive to see. (Park entry fee not necessary as there is metered parking just to view the falls.) Not many RV service centers as we traveled across northern Ontario and Recreation World RV in Thunder Bay saved our trip with suberb service and having the necessary part.

Fee cited is in Canadian dollars. Nicely landscaped campground in easy walking distance to Fort William Historical Site. Two sites share a water/power post but good spaces between pairs of rigs. Picnic table and fire pit for each site but hard to figure out whose was whose. Very open with lawns throughout. Nice breezes in the afternoons. Great to have 50 amp power. Our post had only one water spigot so need a splitter. Best free WiFi we've had in ages. Dump station nearby and easy to access. Only negatives were washrooms and showers very poorly maintained. And, remember to have mosquito repellent! Check in at on site Visitors centre on arrival for camping package. We camped at Fort William Historical Park RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Spend a day at Fort William Historical Site.

We rented a canoe for 3 hours ($15) from the Visitors Centre and had a great paddle on the river.

Being Canadian, a trip to the Terry Fox Monument was in order. Once there we realized it would have been easy to visit while towing out fifth wheel. Parking available. The site is beautiful, and moving.

The Historical Park is a lovely place for a lengthy stay surrounded by grass with a view of the Kaministiquia River from all sites, with one misunderstanding. References to "full service RV camping" should have been read more closely to realize individual sites do not have sewers, requiring that intended stays include picking up and driving to the dump site as necessary. Otherwise, staff was friendly and worked hard to keep us from having to change sites after we decided to extend our stay. The other utilities were fine and Wi-Fi worked consistently. The portapoddy we used occasionally was not emptied during our 10-day stay; otherwise cleanliness was excellent. The Fort William tour (teens of dollars) is not to be missed. Guides play 1815 roles and pretend to expect contemporaneous answers from tourists to questions such as "where did you dock your canoe." (Once we figured that out, we said we were from "a Spanish possession to the south called Florida".) Thunder Bay itself is a prosperous city with lots of major brand stores and, at least in July, frequent thunderstorms. We camped at Fort William Historical Park RV Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Kakabeka Falls is a nice provincial park with camping and trails. The falls produce a rainbow on a clear day with the sun to your back. Sleeping Giant provincial park has many trails, some ending at Lake Superior. Amethyst Panorama is North America's largest amethyst mine; visitors can work over tailings for their own stones. The Bight restaurant in downtown Thunder Bay has views of the bay and very good food. Fairburn's Machine Shop welded a broken plant holder at a reasonable price.

Agree with the quirky site arrangements in the previous post. We stayed for 2 nights and found the trailers used for showers and restrooms poorly maintained. The dump station is on the wrong side of the road, so you have to drive through the visitor center to turn around. Wifi was good and consistent, cell phone service was good. Main draw of the campground is the historical park which is well worth it. We camped at Fort William Historical Park RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Overall we are quite pleased with the park. Water and electric are good, wi-fi is excellent. Sites are grass and roads are paved, no dust! Negatives are sites are close together and share utility pedestal, and it is going to be difficult to exit site without driving on grassy area across road. The dump station is also backwards, after using it we will have to find a parking lot to make a u-turn in. Restrooms and showers are in trailers. The location is south of Thunder Bay. The campground is a grassy field at Fort William Historical Park. There are fresh water and hydro hook ups and a dump station. The utility tower is shared between 2 campers. There are 2 trailers; one has 2 toilets and the other has 3 showers. Water was plenty hot. The wifi is very good all over the campground. We also really enjoyed the Fort. A shuttle takes you over there from the visitor centre. We camped at Fort William Historical Park RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Located about 2-3 miles out of Thunder Bay within the historic Fort William park. Our site was on a grass field and at that time of the year only a dozen other RVs were there so plenty of space.
