Overall Rating:

We stayed two nights, August 15 through August 17, 2019, in campsite I-9, the overnight cost was $0.00 due to our Thousand Trails membership ( our site had electrical and water service). The site was level, only needed 2 inch lift to level left side. The campground is at an elevation of 4150 ft. Access to the campground was right off S. Century Drive , about 3 miles from hwy 97. Our 28 ft travel trailer easily fit with room to spare in our site. Once we enter the campground, the pavement turns to hard packed gravel as we looped around once to find a campsite. Weather was sunny upper 80's, the nights low 40's. This is a very quite campground, there was no noise from main road entering the campground. Activities we enjoyed at the campground to keep busy was frisbee golf, mini-golf, a nice swimming pool and restroom with showers within a few minutes of our site. My wife and I enjoyed the campground, we will stay again next time we are in the area. We stayed two nights as we traveled toward Crater Lake, Oregon. We camped at Bend-Sunriver RV Campground - Thousand Trails in a Travel Trailer.

Spacious campground. Had 2 pools but only one working. Nice location. No sewer hookups at all. The dirt and dust is a big issue. We camped at Bend-Sunriver RV Campground - Thousand Trails in a Motorhome.

Date of Stay: July, 2019 - $66.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed at Bend-Sunriver Thousand Trails for four consecutive nights. This was a late addition to our trip and this was the only option available because of a local event that brought many people to the area. Thousand Trails campgrounds do not assign sites; they are first come/first serve. Our site, D8, was very large and partially shaded by trees. The site included a barbecue/ fire pit, bench, electric (30 amp) and water only. We had to use our waste tote frequently. The restroom I used was clean and well stocked;I did not use the shower. There was a dump station and trash receptacle near by. Wifi was available at the "Lodge" and I think the "Town Square." They have an onsite store with ice, drinks, RV supplies, etc. and the prices were reasonable. This was by far and away the dustiest campground we have ever visited! There are many subtle speed bumps and 5 mph signs, but many of the patrons disregard them! We would only stay here again if it was the last option. We feel that it was very, very overpriced considering there was no sewer connection, cable/WiFi, and the incessant dust issue! We camped at Bend-Sunriver RV Campground - Thousand Trails in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

We were able to snag a 50 amp site (only 37 - 50 amp sites) and get satellite on our rooftop. This used to be very dusty but they have put crushed gravel on the roads so a big improvement. We were also next to a rest room so very convenient since there are no sewer sites. The sites are level and most are big with lots of privacy. There are nice improvements over last year with new flooring in the Lodge, and rest rooms 4 and 5 re-tiled as well as all the rest rooms have been re-painted. They have planned weekend activities for the kids including free Candy Bar Bingo (big kids can attend too!) and ice cream socials. You can rent canoes and kayaks and float the Little Deschutes River (watch for hundreds of golf balls in the river near the golf course). Horseshoe and pickle ball tournaments along with a nice pool so plenty to do and keep busy. They also have 2-3 food trucks at the entrance and serve breakfast Saturday and Sunday mornings in the Lodge. We are Thousand Trails members so stay for free. By far, one of our favorite parks! Big rig friendly, level sites, easy to navigate, no issues with trees/limbs. (No sewer hook-ups at our site) Friendly and efficient check in. Pickleball courts, pool, lodge, on-site store, laundry. We love to hike and explore outside of the parks we stay at, rarely use the amenities of the park, but the few things we utilized worked well and were available. Tons of things to do in the Bend/Sunriver area, and would definitely stay here again. We camped at Bend-Sunriver RV Campground - Thousand Trails in a Fifth Wheel.

This is an older park with no sewer hook-ups but there is a dump station. Confusing lay out, the roads thru the park are narrow and run both directions. There are a lot of owned spaces in this park. We camped at Bend-Sunriver RV Campground - Thousand Trails in a Fifth Wheel.

This was one of our favorite Thousand Trails locations so far (and we've been to quite a few over the US during the past 6 months). While there was still some snow on the ground and most of the facility was dormant for the off-season the staff was extremely friendly and we love the Bend / Sunriver area! If it's this nice in April, we'd love to see it in the summertime when everything is open. The only drawback is the lack of sewer hookup, but if you're prepared this is a wonderful park! Bend (the south part of town) is just 20 min away (north side 35min) and has everything you need. Such a great town! We camped at Bend-Sunriver RV Campground - Thousand Trails in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

We enjoyed two, two-week stays here. The first week, we scored a 50-amp site our second morning by chit-chatting with neighbors who were preparing to leave. It was on the bottom of the A row, right off the main campground road, which was extremely dusty because most people drive too fast. We like our next spot up by the yurts MUCH better. Antenna TV worked okay, with four PBS stations. Verizon was weak, but okay. They really need to trim and/or remove a few more trees. By all the scarring and sap present, it’s obvious which trees need attention. There was no way to avoid some limbs at the site and the lower dump, where work is also needed on obstacles and puddle points. Otherwise, it’s a nice, quiet and mostly clean park. No recycle bins provided. We camped at Bend-Sunriver RV Campground - Thousand Trails in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Newberry National Monument is great. Lava River Cave closes Oct. 1. Sunriver, nearby, has great paved trails which actually connect to the Sun-Lava trail to the monument visitor center. There is also a recycle drop off there, but not for redemption items. Bend is close, where there are more paved trails. Stop by the visitor center for info, and to pick up the Bend Ale Trail passport. Oh my... lots of great breweries, as well as distilleries and cider works. The High Desert Museum is also great!

We stayed here 5 years ago, and were disappointed to see how things have gone downhill here since then. The resort looks "tired".....things need repainting, and repair. We are pickleball players, and were sad to see that the courts here are in disrepair. Out of 8 courts, only 3 or 4 are usable. We were lucky to be able to snag a 50 amp site, and the utilities work well. The dump stations are a bit rough looking. Disappointing. We are Thousand Trails Family Courtesy Card holders, so actual rate of $0 is due to that. Not many 50A sites, and it was warm so we wanted 50A if we could get it. We were able to find a 50A site, and left a chair in the site along with our site tag, to reserve it while we went to dump... before we could get back (we drove by on the way to the dump), the chair had used its legs to walk away! Not a pleasant welcome! We went initially to the dump at the bottom of the campground - it had a sign indicating that you should only open your tank valve 1/2 way due to the septic being full... since we have automatic valves (no way to open half way) and since we could easily see that the pipe had liquid right near the top, we decided to try the other dump station. The one at the top of the hill has ability for two rigs to dump at the same time, and had no issue taking on our nearly full tanks. We were in a site that backed up to the meadow - evidently prized by those who want good view with satellite dishes. It appeared that nearly all the sites in this campground could easily accommodate very large rigs. Laundry was relatively clean and easy to use. No sewer sites in this campground, though one of the seasonal guests in the campground told me that they are in the process of putting sewer into all of the sites, and that it may be available by 2019. We camped at Bend-Sunriver RV Campground - Thousand Trails in a Motorhome.

This is a membership park. It is located about twenty minutes south of Bend in a wooded rural area. The park is very large with a couple of hundred spaces. The spaces are set among the trees and our space was very private. There is no sewer only water and power but they do have dump stations. There are many amenities including two pools, a hot tub, mini golf, disc golf, pickle ball and floating the river. We enjoyed our week stay very much. The only negative is that the roads are lightly covered with gravel but it is still quite dusty. We camped at Bend-Sunriver RV Campground - Thousand Trails in a Travel Trailer.

Thousand Trails "preserves" vary greatly, from run down to well-kept and everything in-between. This park is being maintained and improved, and the effort shows. We were given a list of recent improvements when we checked in, and it was extensive. The campground was full or nearly so during our stay. Just two rows with 50 amp service (A and B). There are no sites with sewer in the park. You either have to use one of their dump stations or pay the weekly "honey wagon" for a pump-out. Like most TT parks, the WiFi only works at the office/lodge and even there it doesn't work well. We had good service from Verizon in the park. Our biggest complaint is the dust. It's desert, after all, and even with the new gravel in the roads, we felt like we were constantly tracking dust everywhere. Except for that, our stay was pleasant and we would come back. We camped at Bend-Sunriver RV Campground - Thousand Trails in a Motorhome.

We stayed here for a little over a week and this was the first TT park we visited after becoming members. Got a 50 amp site in loop A mostly because we both work out of the RV when we travel, and we were trying to get ourselves as close to their wifi as possible. Our spot backed up to the main entrance which is very dusty most of the day and night because of the amount/speed of people entering and exiting the park. There are two food trucks near the entrance as well, so that was a bonus. The staff was great, very accommodating and took us around to see a few spots that would fit our 42' Class A (with a Jeep tow) before committing. The site was very spacious with a picnic table (see photo) and the Jeep fit in front of the coach with room to spare. RV was easy to level and the services (electric/ water) worked without flaw. Most of the park is encompassed by soaring ponderosa pines which provide nice shade, but you give up tv satellite service in return. There were no sewer hook-ups. There's a mobile service you can call to pump out your tanks, but be forewarned, it's expensive. They do have dump stations located within the park. Wi-fi was non-existent most of the time. Verizon worked well. There's a clubhouse that is suited for kids, as well as kayak rentals and a pool. The Deschutes River runs through part of the park, so come packed with bug spray and citronella candles. While they call it the "Bend-Sunriver" RV campground, it's at least 20 minutes from Bend. Sunriver is a cute resort-type destination and only five or so minutes from the park. Two groceries in LaPine which is about 15 minutes in the opposite direction on the 97 and everything you need/want in Bend, including Costco. We did use the laundry area since we couldn't use our own, and they were clean with machines that functioned properly. With a little updating and an addition of sewer, this would be a fantastic park. We'd stay there again just for the peaceful setting alone. We camped at Bend-Sunriver RV Campground - Thousand Trails in a Motorhome.

If you're visiting in Summer and up for something off the beaten path, take a drive to the Cultus Lake resort's restaurant about 45 minutes away on the scenic highway. At the time of this writing, they have a Rib special on Friday and Saturday nights and an all you can eat breakfast buffet on Sunday morning during the summer months. Check their website for closures and updates. Very quaint and worth the trek.
