Most sites fairly level. May have to ride blocks on one side. This campground has a great check-in station. All loops are one way, so it's easier to get around the narrow roads. We camped at Fort Stevens State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Lots to do and see at this park and in Astoria. We only had 3 nights here, but we were able to squeeze in quite a bit in Astoria and most all of Fort Stevens. Some good easy hikes here. This park is huge . . .

This is an absolutely beautiful campground within Ft. Stevens State Park. There are 452 RV sites, 150 of which are full hook-up and 36 of those are pull-throughs. We had a back-in site with enough room for our 43' motorhome and car. Most of the campsites are in heavily wooded areas, so satellite is out of the question for most of them, but Verizon and Sprint worked well. No cable. Campground was always full the week we were there and reservations need to be made several months out. Roads and sites are paved asphalt. We had 50-amp W/E only site but there are sites with sewer. 3-bay dump station was a little tight for us to get into but doable. There is lots to do within the park with the beach, historical forts, a fishing lake and ocean and walking and biking trails. Very quiet at night. Lots of kids during the day. Volunteers come around almost nightly and will deliver firewood and kindling to your site at a reasonable price, for which the proceeds go towards their efforts of maintaining the historical sites. Office staff was terrific. Daily campground fee covers fee for tow vehicle and access to all areas within the park. If we are ever back in this area we would definitely stay here again. We camped at Fort Stevens State Park in a Motorhome.

Stayed 5 nights in loop C - very busy park sold out every night we stayed. So many things to do excellent hiking and biking trails; beach and lake. This year we did the truck tour really fun and only cost $7 per person. The ranger programs are very extensive and most don't cost anything. We visited Astoria and Seaside lots of shopping and museums. The only real negatives are no cell service and no tv reception; also this park is very busy. While the sites are spacious it's very open so you have little privacy; and as stated in other reviews the path to the restrooms can cross your site so you need to be careful when choosing. Saw lots of people crossing our neighbors site to reach the restroom. If you don't like wood fires do not camp here - so many fires and the hosts main duty seems to be selling firewood. We camped at Fort Stevens State Park in a Motorhome.

The best features of the park is the history of the Fort. The trails are fantastic, second to none for both biking and hiking. View and use of Ocean, Columbia River & lake is really cool opportunity to check out the diversity of habitat. The campsites themselves are roomy, but many do not provide adequate privacy from neighbors. Choose carefully, stay away from center of loop sites, pull thru's and watch out where that bathroom and main drive are located. Popular kids loop is J or I. Looking for peace try the other end near the cabins/yurt camping areas. They do need more garbage cans strategically placed on trails, for instance next to seating areas. Bugs not an issue. Fire pit is not good, too high blocking visual of flame (made for cooking on it). With all that said, just book it you will not regret. Cheers! We camped at Fort Stevens State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Visit the museum. I learned something that I would have never imagined. Fort Stevens and Camby were built pre-Civil War and only in operation for 19 years. After that time it was deemed outdated. Fort Columbia on the WA side was built and used around the WWI time frame. Stevens and Camby were the only and largest structure/armament built West of the Mississippi.

Overall Rating:

The top feature of this campground is the setting and location. The trees, Pacific Ocean, Columbia River, and all of the historical features of the park are fabulous. Even the vibe of the campground is pretty good. There weren't a lot of rowdy campers like we've seen in other public campgrounds. Lots more tents, pop-ups, and small campers here than you'll see in other campgrounds, and fewer big-rigs. The campground seems very well run, with many employees and/or volunteers working in the campground. Let's go with the negatives now. Because there are so many people here, and also, I believe, because there are so few big-rigs with their own toilets, the restrooms here are, without exaggeration, disgusting. We stayed here for five nights, and the restrooms reeked of urine the entire time. The showers were fine, however. Many of the campsites have been reduced to sand and dirt, with very little grass. There were many dogs here, and almost all of them had responsible owners. However, two different times we had large dog poop piles in our campsite. Our number one complaint is the reservation process. We live in the Midwest, and we drove 2,000 miles to visit this park. We made our reservations in March, and we could not book a complete five-night stay. Campsites were full. We managed to find vacancies in two different campsites that covered our five nights. We spent nights in two different campsites and had to move in the middle of our stay from one campsite to the other. Not fun. What was worse, however, was seeing all of the campsites that stayed vacant for multiple days while we were there. Apparently, people who live closer to Fort Stevens reserve large blocks of dates many months ahead of time, and then they cancel if there is rain in the forecast. There was rain during our stay. It's too bad that there isn't a better way to get people to honor their reservation. Why not leave the campground to the people who really want to be there. We camped at Fort Stevens State Park in a Tent Trailer.

The campground was nice, just a couple things that can be better was the street signs are not very clear on when/where to turn to get to the campground and the paved pad for my trailer was not level. Had to use two risers. We camped at Fort Stevens State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Stayed 2 nights, older campsites, heavily wooded sites, plenty of room between us and adjacent site. Park is old Army base with plenty to see and do. Good biking and hiking trails. Huge state park in a heavily forested area. Small rv sites with little privacy. Clean restrooms and friendly staff. Lots to do in the area. Spent an entire day exploring the military site at Ft. Stevens. Underground tour of the Mischler Battery should not be missed. Short drive to Astoria for restaurants. Enjoyed our stay. We camped at Fort Stevens State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Fort Stevens is a large Oregon State Park. There are many loops of camp sites. The length of the site should be considered when choosing a location. I also pay attention to if the entrance to the site is angled or straight. We had an angled site. When we backed in, I was working to get the rig as far off the road as possible, but a branch from a fir tree behind the site prevented me getting the wheels to the back of the paved area. Placing the toad in front of the rig made for a very tight fit. We arrived on a Wednesday and left on a Monday. Friday and Saturday nights were crowded. Saturday would have been very smokey from the campfires, but it rained heavily. There are many places within the park to explore. A campground host drove around in the afternoon to sell fire wood, but it was also available near the front of the park. The site was level. We tried not to track in fir needles and sand but is was very difficult. The picnic table was good. We didn't use the fire ring. The site was clean when we arrived. The showers near the yurts were better than the showers in our circle, but they still allowed water into the dressing area. Except for the occasional military helicopters it was a very quiet, peaceful park, even when full. We were unable to get a full connection with the Dish. AT&T was non-existant and Verizon had one bar. The Starbucks in Warrenton had very good WiFi. Astoria was a short drive back across the bridge. We camped at Fort Stevens State Park in a Motorhome.

Visit the Astoria Column and look for lunch at Fort George. There is a Peace Memorial near the north end of the park. There are military batteries near by with many corners to explore. Don't miss the ship wreck.

This is a very large campground with 476 sites, 174 are FHU and 302 are water/electric. The sites are decently spaced, but it is a very busy and full campground (it was full when we were there). It is small and medium child heaven with bike riders everywhere so watch it when driving! It has a well developed bike trail system. Hiking trails are not as good and in many cases you walk on the paved bike trails. There is a lot to do here including seeing large ships come down the Columbia River and hit the ocean waves, historic Ft. Stevens sites, wildlife viewing, and an actual shipwreck on the beach, plus of course the beach. We camped at Fort Stevens State Park in a Motorhome.

This is an old campground with full hookups, but some of the reviews saying large site for big rigs is misleading. There are probably 8 to 10 sites in the campground that are really big enough for big rigs. We had one with full hook ups, but don't expect to get satellite reception here as the trees block the signal, and there are only a couple of OTA channels to watch. The bath houses are not heated, and with lows in the low 40's and highs in the upper 50's makes them almost useless unless you are use to the cold temps. Being from Florida, we did not use them, but that being said, only half of them were actually open. The others were locked. The wind blows constantly here, so with the abundant shade, cold temps, and very humid conditions, be prepared to be cold, so dress accordingly. We were here for 4 nights and were very happy to leave here. We camped at Fort Stevens State Park in a Motorhome.

This is a gem of a State Park. They have hundreds of sites from campsites to full hook up for big rigs. Reservations are best of course, but we just dropped in, and if they have sites available, they can assign one right there on the spot! No need to call Reserve America! Ask for your specific needs. We had a full hook up site. You can also call to check availability. Sites are all located in an old growth Oregon forest, so they are shaded all the time with many huge old trees. This used to be an outpost that protected the Columbia river entrance during WWII. Now, it's 4300 acres of beautiful park, with lakes, miles and miles of paved bike trails, ocean beaches and tours of the old fort and museum. Lots to explore here. Lewis and Clark ended their journey west near here at Fort Clatsop (3 miles away) in the winter of 1805-1806, and boiled seawater for months to have enough salt for their journey home. The area is dripping with Lewis and Clark expedition history. We've all read about this in our history classes, and here's a chance to see it all in real life! Great experiences! Great place to stage for history, Astoria and the local area. Costco nearby, everything else close as well. We used AT&T hotspot for WiFi, no problem, and also received numerous over the air signals for TV to our surprise. We look forward to returning here for a longer stay. We camped at Fort Stevens State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

We did not reserve in advance for our early September Sunday afternoon (1-ish) arrival but had no trouble getting a full hook-up site. As you can see by the photo, it was well vegetated. The park is great, with its old fort, river beach and ocean beach access, even an old wreck. There are plenty of well-laid out hiking/walking trails. Astoria is a great town to explore, and the high bridge across the Columbia River gives access to interesting day-trips on the Washington side. This campground is a great headquarters for Lewis & Clark buffs, with lots of L&C locations just a day-trip away. We camped at Fort Stevens State Park in a Travel Trailer.

A huge Oregon state park with a real mix of sites. Most of the sites are heavily wooded in constant shade, so if there is rain, nothing ever dries out. Depending on the site, big rig access may be a bit tough, and some pruning may be required to avoid scratching paint. Great walking/biking trails, a cool old fort to explore, and a really nice beach that you are allowed to drive on (4wd recommended). Close to Astoria with great restaurants and breweries. No satellite reception due to heavy tree coverage, Verizon and AT&T are very spotty depending on location. We enjoyed our stay and will be back. Reserve in advance if you want full hookups, and this is one of the few parks I would recommend getting a site on the main road, especially if here in cooler weather so you can enjoy some sun at your site.
