One night stay while driving from ID to the Willamette Valley. Nice little park. Restrooms and showers are more associated with the fairgrounds by distance than the RV park. Since it was below freezing and we left early we did not use them. Our site was a very long pull through and required a couple of blocks in the front to level. I think if I would have surveyed the whole length better I would have a found a level spot. $30 seems a little steep unless there is something going on in town. There are not many alternatives but it does have full hookup. A large open field was available for our dog. Since the place was nearly empty we let him chase the ball under voice command so he could get some exercise. The signage at the front fair ground gate could be better, we thought we were supposed to pull into the fairground parking lot then figured out you had to go in a back way after seeing another RV on the grounds. We camped at Grant County Fairgrounds RV Park in a Motorhome.

Downtown John Day is a short walk. Did not look for groceries but there was a DQ and brewery on the Main St at the cross roads of Hwy26 & Hwy395

Overall this was a nice quiet park. Site 10 was a back with 50 amp and full hookups. There are old, tall trees that are well kept. Satellite TV reception was good. Grounds were gravel but level. The park sits on the fair grounds. The bathrooms and showers are a fair walk away from the park and require $5.00 to use shower. There were local children playing around the bathrooms. The town of John Day is a small quaint town with small shops. The John Day river is directly behind park and great for fishing even though not great for us catching fish! Prices were a little expensive in town. Nice park that we would stay at again. We camped at Grant County Fairgrounds RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Located at the fairgrounds, this place gets mixed reviews from me. The trees are lovely and it is a very quiet location from which you can walk to town if you want. There at both pull -through and back-in sites. It is small but negotiable. The grounds are very dirty with the old gravel almost gone. I was glad we had a rug to put down at the door. The wifi worked sporadically the first day and then it just went away. Management seemed confused about site assignments. If there is a public bathroom we were not made aware of it nor a laundry. I would only return because the town is so cute and the people very friendly. We camped at Grant County Fairgrounds RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Call the fairgrounds for reservations. They take CC over the phone, $2.50 service charge, our cash/ check at the kiosk. Name was on our site when we arrived. Nice, water and sewer available at our site,#21. A Back-in, which was very long. Lots of tent camping space. WiFi was unsecured, but worked well for mail and browsing, didn't try steaming. Enter off of Bridge street, not fairgrounds address in Garmin. All restaurants on Main St, .4 miles away. Better than average fairground camping. Nice gravel RV Park with some larger trees. Right next to the Grant County Fairgrounds and the John Day River. Sites are level. 50 amp and water, but no sewer. There is a dump station somewhere. You can call for reservations or just check in with an envelope. No one on site. It was about half full on June 3. Quiet and restful. The recently raised the rates to $30, which is a lot for just electric and water. We camped at Grant County Fairgrounds RV Park in a Motorhome.

You should visit the Oregon State Park, Kam Wah Chung Chinese-owned grocery. https://oregonencyclopedia.org/articles/kam_wah_chung/#.WTSwj8aB1Xg Free. 8-5. Tours on the hour. Seven days a week. It was locked up in 1940 and hasn't changed since. Chinatown near here had 1000 people in 1880's; third largest in US.

This is a very basic RV park. Pay your fee into an envelope. No host on site. Restrooms across a field, which might have been open or not. Sites are gravel, hookups work, roomy lengthwise. Place was nearly empty when we were there, so no feeling of being crowded. Lots of room to walk the dog. Fine for an overnight stay. Seems like the price could have been lower, given the amenities, i.e., none. We camped at Grant County Fairgrounds RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

In town, but in a residential area. If you wanted to go to a restaurant, it would be a half mile or so walk.

Great location close to town and amenities. Clean and level gravel sites with shade from trees that did leave a light sap film. Cleaned off easily. Would have been perfect 2 night stay with sight seeing and visiting the 1188 Brewery except there were a group of commercial mushroom pickers in the 3 sites adjoining ours and had their dryers running all the time. Would have complained but could only leave a note since we never saw anyone who worked there.

Saw a lot of sheep our first day, this is a fairground, with 4H kids bringing in their stock. Did not use restrooms or showers since they were across a large grass area and we are self contained.

Roads a wide and sites are long if you are in the middle loop. There are back in along east side that back to the grass area, We had no trouble getting Direct Tv even though there are a number of trees. We camped at Grant County Fairgrounds RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

This is a basic campground conveniently located within walking distance to the town of John Day. There are 3 different fee structures. Dry camping cost $10 located on grass. Electric only (20 amp service) cost $15. These spots are located around the red barn. None of these spots are level and can accommodate only a small rig. The full hookup section cost $27. All prices include tax. There is also a dump station, but we could not find it. The interior road and sites within the full hookup section are paved. There is 20/30/50 amp electrical service. The electrical voltage was good. All of the utilities are located in the outer middle side of the site. The pull-thru sites are long enough that you may not have to unhitch the tow. Some of the sites are shaded, but you have to be a little careful because the trees may hit your rig. The bathrooms are clean and there are 3 private showers. Verizon air card and cell phone worked well here. There is Wi-Fi within the campground, but we did not use it. The lights attached to the electrical box do not work, so it is pretty dark at night. Overall, this is a nice quiet park. We would come back here again if we were in the area. We camped at Grant County Fairgrounds RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Good campsites, cheap price, shady, good place for stop over when traveling through Oregon, it was nice to find this available. Self register, half full when we came through. Lots of places to walk the dog, not much to do around there. Only internet I found was at the local McDonald's. No T-Mobile data service. Very clean bathroom and shower. Nice RV Park along the John Day River. The sites are long and fairly level. Great walking along the river and to town. It was a perfect place to park while seeing the area. We saw deer in the park daily. No host on site but we were able to contact the office by phone when needed. We would stay here again when in the area. We were passing through with our Motorcyle and tent trailer and decided it was time for a rest. This park is very pet friendly so it made it a great fit. The showers and restrooms were very clean. We also spotted several deer in the area and met another couple that was passing through. What a great spot to stop with your motorcyle or just cycling through. There are very few campgrounds around John Day, but this is one of the best campgrounds we had used in several years. It is the honor system for an overnight stay, they charge $20.00 for a nice shaded site with full hookups. It is part of the Grant County Fairgrounds, so it is well maintained. The best part was the deer just walking through the campsite all day long. A must stop for anyone who is traveling through that part of Central Oregon. We discovered this by accident while driving across central Oregon. It's perfect for the weekend - long pull-thrus, 50 amp, some shade but the satellites work in most spots, full hook-ups, picnic tables. Close to the Kam Wah Chung museum we haven't visited yet, but will. And Saturday night will be a Demolition Derby next door!!! Might not be as quiet then... We'll go. The river is just behind the campground, but access is limited by overgrowth. Several good restaurants in town, plus a fast food, in a little bitty town. They have raised the price every year it appears - used to be $10 and then $16. It's a value at $20, with monthly rates available also. We'd definitely come here again. It's difficult to find coming from the east, but well marked from the west. We camped at Grant County Fairgrounds RV Park in a Motorhome.
