Stayed here using a free TT membership. Park was a real mess: roads were rutted and muddy, back in sites cramped with all kinds of close limbs having to maneuver around, dog poop all over campsite, no help or direction from park staff. Park is typical TT - run down and poorly staffed. Even with free camping, I’d never stay here again and it seems most TT’s are the same as here. We camped at Whalers Rest RV & Camping Resort in a Motorhome.

Whalers is a good place to spend a few days when you just want to unplug and get away we found only one area in the RV park we could walk to and get intermittent cell signal. There are a couple of spots in addition to both club houses where you can get park wifi, free for now but no doubt once the wifi is available park wide, thousand trails will charge a high subscription fee if you want to log in to wifi, like they do in some of the other TT parks we have been to. We were luck to get wifi at our site which was level good power sewer at almost all the sites. Whalers is a good place to spend just a few days to unplug and see the many sites along this part of the Oregon coast. We camped at Whalers Rest RV & Camping Resort in a Motorhome.

Good points: Nice sites with vegetation in between. Right across the street from beach. Nice people staying and working here Bad points: NO INTERNET THIS IS A BIG DEAL Charge you 5.00 for a package Charge 4.00 for TV and get only 5 channels. DID I SAY NO INTERNET. It's a shame this place could be a great park, but in this day and age no internet is very serious. We camped at Whalers Rest RV & Camping Resort in a Motorhome.

I have realized Thousand Trails campgrounds aren't for me. People look for different things in campgrounds so realize many people love the thousand trails campgrounds for their rustic natural setting. Whaler's Rest was very dusty until it rained and then it was very muddy. The roads are potted and tight and I scraped on some tree limbs. The sites were tight, but most do have a concrete pad which I haven't come across in a Thousand Trails campground. I was told there were no spots on the north side and took one of the first ones past the gate on the south side. I paid $4/day for the cable since I couldn't get a satellite signal and it was horrible in terms of selection and quality. Actually went out several times so had no picture. The site was close enough to pick up on the lodge wifi. People were nice as usual. We camped at Whalers Rest RV & Camping Resort in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

This park is part of our Thousand Trails-used-to-be-Leisure-Time membership that we've had for 30 years. Since we had never visited this one before we thought we'd give it a try on our way north to Washington for the holidays. We were apprehensive about our size, and it was a bit tight but do-able. I can imagine it would be worse in the summer when the park is full of rigs and too many cars/trucks. The gal in the office gave us some suggestions about where we would fit, and after driving around the south loop and the north loop, we selected the spot we thought was best. Since TT campgrounds are usually first-come first served it makes us a bit nervous because we are so long. Our site was perfect for us, plenty long enough for the trailer and the truck. It wouldn't have worked if we'd wanted to get the motorcycles out, but since it was rainy and cold December we knew they were staying in the garage. We really liked the easy access to the beach park across the street. Cable was offered, but only worked briefly at our site so we weren't charged for it. Since it is a campground there was a bit of mud, but that's what boots are for. Because our site was sloped at the front where the truck sat, we decided to time our exit after a few dry days so we wouldn't slip pulling out. We had watched others have serious issues with that when it was raining, and we know they didn't weigh half what we weigh. We were flexible, so that worked for us. It's all about knowing your limitations when you're full-timing, right? Overall we liked it here, and even though it was winter we enjoyed the proximity to the ocean. We saw whales spouting and caught some amazing sunsets, and all we had to do was walk down a short path and across the highway. We camped at Whalers Rest RV & Camping Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

This is a good Thousand Trails park although the sites are on the small side and could use some gravel or grass to cover the dirt. There are a lot of activities here for guests to participate in like ice cream socials, breakfasts, BBQs, etc. In addition, access to the beach across the road is easy. There's a fenced in dog park for our furry friends, too. Laundry facilities are good and machines are new. The rangers at the gate keep track of which sites are empty and can give you suggestions for where your rig will fit and where you can get satellite reception. This is another campground with sites on two sides of the road, so you may want to check out both sides before you choose a site. Clubhouses are well maintained and not worn and tired. The big problem here is Verizon internet service. It is non-existent. You can purchase internet from the office, but may have to go to one of the clubhouses to use it. You can also purchase cable TV if you can't get satellite TV in your site. Another negative was that the hot tub was not working the entire week we were there and had been closed for over a week before we arrived. We camped at Whalers Rest RV & Camping Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Many potholes need to be filled from gravel pile right on location. Sites need trimming to avoid rubbing on side of rv and for maybe improved Sat reception from roof. Tight back in sites with trees on sides of road. Meals are good bbq & breakfast on weekends. Movie rental selection is very good and cheap at $1. Nice camp store. Pool table in adult lodge needs some work. We camped at Whalers Rest RV & Camping Resort in a Motorhome.

Dirty and dusty, very tight spaces. Trim a few trees and pave the road to keep the dust down and this would be a good park because of proximity to Newport and the ocean beaches. We were fortunate to be able to move to a more open site after the first night. We camped at Whalers Rest RV & Camping Resort in a Motorhome.

Staff was very helpful and suggested an open pull thru site reserved for rigs over 38 feet during peak season. Appreciated sites reserved for rigs over 38 feet as many of the sites are short and narrow. There is a walking path from park to highway 101 and state park ocean beach just across highway 101. Indoor pool was nice and good store on site. North part of park had good WIFI and you could purchase cable with over 100 channels. Lots of trees and shade on most sites. No Verizon phone or data service. Roads were one way and gravel which created lots of dust. We would return to this park. We camped at Whalers Rest RV & Camping Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Very disappointed in this park. Sites are narrow and crowded by trees and shrubs on three sides. Lots of pruning needs to be done. There are a lot of trees that should be cut down because they are a lot that are dead or dying! Need to do this before there is a tragedy! Also the roads are dirt with some stones that are smashed down in the dirt. This makes for a very dust place when dry and a mud bog when wet. It was dry while we were there and we didn't grill outside due to the dust that billowed up and engulfed our site! The roads are also filled with potholes. Since the road is one way only we had to drive the entire rutted park to exit! We will not be staying here again. We camped at Whalers Rest RV & Camping Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

The park shows some nice upgrades since our last stay here. The pool is looking very nice and the North campground has an excellent WIFi package. The cable TV (which costs extra) offers 125 channels. They give you a list of sites that shows which ones support roof or tripod satellite options. Even though it is before the summer season, the park is pretty full so definitely plan to make reservations as far in advance as you can. There is a nice trail from the south campground to the beach, but you have to cross hwy 101. Great location for exploring the central Oregon coast. We only stayed two nights and the one day we had here we drove in to Albany, OR to visit Silverleaf Electronics (great trip for that!). The ranger gave us a list of all the site lengths and whether they had a firepit and satellite availability (rooftop or tripod) - very handy - AND they recommended a site that they knew was open that we would fit into. We parked in the part that is north of the road which meant we had to traverse through the whole south side (or we could have tried to unhook and back up, but that probably would have been challenging). The site we were directed to just barely fit our 43' rig, and though it was classified as a pullthru, we elected not to pull out of it when leaving as there was a bit of a ditch pulling onto the road in front and we were concerned we would drag front or back. We camped at Whalers Rest RV & Camping Resort in a Motorhome.

We really enjoyed our stay! When we first checked in the nice man working in the booth directed us to a site for rigs larger than 38 feet. We really appreciated that since we are 41 feet. We loved our site! We also loved the indoor pool and hot tub and the activities like a magic show and candy bar bingo. One lady employee wasn't very friendly and asked us more than once why we were in a site for rigs larger than 38 feet. I don't know why she kept asking us this, if she just looked at our rig I think it's pretty clear we are larger than 38 feet. She also wasn't very friendly when I needed to pick up a package, but I was very thankful to the other lady employee that helped me instead. Anyway, we loved our time there and were not too bothered by the not so friendly employee. Verizon data does not work there at all, but with a booster we were able to use talk and text only. However, AT&T data worked very well. We camped at Whalers Rest RV & Camping Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Like many of the sites, the site we parked the rv on, was a concrete pad and nice and level. Most sites are very spacious, the restrooms were clean. Cell signal is a problem: I had none. Most people I talked to had none. I know of one person with Verizon that said she could get a signal, in a common area, up on a hill, in the section north of the road.
