Nice little State Park, fairly level sites, #8 is the largest, but most can handle large RVs w/ a little careful parking; everyone used their slides, but were warned not to leave awnings out when away due to wind. Water was cloudy but cleared up fine. Camp host was great. Very glad that other reviewers warned to go to the Horse Thief Lake entrance as there are several park entrances. Lewis and Clark camped here. Guided tours of Petrographs are only on weekends. - BandD
Sep 2016 - $28.00
This is a great small park. It is right by the lake. The problem is that the wind is very very windy so you can't put your awnings out. We had a hell of a time finding this park because there is three Columbia River Parks. You want the Horsethief Lake Park. - Kwanyen
May 2016 - $35.00
The sites are back in only, If you are skilled at operating your vehicle that should not be a problem. If you are not, you will probably hit the tall concrete divider pillars and damage your rig. The sites are close together, if you had slides this could also present an issue. For my stay the issue was the wind and the neighboring fire ring. The fire ring was located at the front tire of my rig, and the wind easily pushed it too close to the rubber. Had I not been paying attention, this could have resulted in severe damage to my rig. The main issue is space. Noise, and parking were also issues. This is no fault of the campground, but the layout is not conducive for silence or for space. I drive a 36 foot rig which is 8'9" wide and 12'8" tall.
The camp host was friendly, and very helpful. The petroglyphs are within walking distance, and the lake is quite beautiful. The grounds are well kept, and the grass is trimmed. The anthropological history alone is well worth a one or two day stay. I would have liked to arrange a guided tour of the glyphs, but was unable to due to time constraints.
This makes a good base camp, but not somewhere to hang out and spend the day. Other than the lake, there is not much there. The glyphs are about 1/4 mile down the road, and Horsethief Butte is a great climbing place or even a short hike, is also down the road. - Zach Merritt

Dec 2014 - $20.00
Basic, no-frills park that caters to long-termers working on nearby construction projects. Excellent for us lower-income, retired folks as long as you have your own bathroom. Wifi worked great. Staff very friendly and helpful; I called in from 15 miles out and he was there waiting for me to guide me in the dark to my spot. I wouldn't bring children, a Big Rig or anything with slide-outs here if I were you. - Old Mountain Man
Sep 2013 - $20.00
Sites are very narrow, dirt and gravel and uneven. Neighbors awning protruded into our site. NO TV! Too much emphasis placed on grass. Limited space for towed vehicle. - SmokeyBear
Jul 2008 - $20.00
Nice clean park with wonderful hosts. Small park with some long term residents. Spaces were nicely shaded and adequate for big rigs. No bathrooms, no pool, no game room, no laundry, no Wi-Fi. Just a nice, quiet place with full hook-ups to spend a night or two. If you need more - go someplace else. Cost was $20 per night when we were there. Payment by cash or check only. About 12 miles south of The Dalles, Oregon on SR 197. Coordinates: 45d 27'04.66" N and 121d 07' 44.85" W Address: 10 NE Aiken St., Dufur, OR - Gerry Brentnall

Jul 2017 - $25.00
I stayed here for 2 nights in site 4 while passing through with a 27 foot motorhome with a tow car. The price was for a full hookup site with 30 and 50 amp power. I don't believe they have a dump station. Have to admit my review of this park is highly colored by the fact my previous campground was a COE park in the Columbia River Gorge which may have been the noisiest campground I've ever been. I-84 and trains amplified by the Gorge. Here I got a babbling brook right behind my site. I could have given this a 10 just for the peace and quiet. It's only 15-20 minutes from the interstate and for folk traveling I-84 who can't take the noise -- and most of the campgrounds along I-84 are right in the Gorge -- this is an excellent alternative. This is a city park with 15 fairly rustic RV sites, some of which are full hookups. The rest of the park is a ball field and a day use area with a playground and a very nice swimming pool -- adults only on Friday and Saturday nights. The sites are on grass and are all back-in and are not evenly spaced. Not much in the way of shade until late afternoon. Public picnicking areas are interspersed between the sites. Most if not all back up to the brook which is clear and beautiful and comes from Mount Hood. The manager is on site and very helpful. The park is very tidy and well maintained. About half the sites were occupied while I was there. The town of Dufur is very small but quite nice -- great downtown market that carried everything and served food and ice cream. Verizon was perfect (there's a tower on a hill beside the town). I didn't use the restrooms. - SoloRed
Jul 2012 - $25.00
This is a city run park in Dufur. The host is extremely helpful and does a great job running and taking care of the campground. Most of the sites are back-in next to a creek and facing the ball field. Very clean bathrooms. We would stay again. - spitfirepete

Good shaded park and wonderful views of the river. Oftentimes you will see grain barges and Stern wheelers passing by the park. Grass all through the park as well as many shade trees. Look for the Prune and Pear trees with editable fruit. Yes, there are PRUNE trees, not Plum trees. Sites are staggered so you don't look into the neighbors window. - Root
Sep 2018 - $4.00
Rate is based on Disabled Veteran Discount ($8 to make a reservation). The park is down the hill from the Memaloose Rest Area right on the Columbia River. We checked in online and printed the parking pass and the receipt to put in the collection box. Our site (A4) backs up to I-84 so we got some highway noise but we didn't find it intrusive. The site is plenty long enough for our 39' motor coach but we had to park our car across the pad in front of us. I wouldn't call this a destination park unless you take advantage of the fishing on the river. The park has been here awhile so you only have 30 amp electric service. Not a problem with the breezes coming into the park from the river.
For the holiday weekend this place was full all three nights. They did have some overflow parking for $10 a night. Like all Oregon State Park's reservations must be made well in advance on holiday weekends and this one during fishing seasons. - StarlifterFE
Jul 2018 - $33.00
Location was great, just above the Columbia river with beautiful views all around. The park is tight for big trailers but doable. The downside is that you are right on the interstate. The city of Mt. Hood is close with lots to do and see. - kckid

May 2018 - $24.00
The campground is beautiful and well maintained. But, if you expect sound sleep, the horns from the trains will prohibit it. The trains run by all night with the horns blaring. I had a difficult time sleeping at this campground, and do not plan to stay here again. A fellow camper told me that he got used to it. Lots of Canadian geese reside here on a beautiful river. - Nothing But Blue Skies
Jun 2017 - $1.00
At first glance, I thought I was going to love this park. It's very pretty, along the river with lots of trees. However, the noise was very distracting, not only from the numerous trains blowing their horns, but the relentless traffic noise from the highway. It was particularly annoying at night. On the plus side, there is a nice bike trail along the river (hiking also), which gets you away from all the noise. The customer service was good. The park is in immaculate condition. The sites are sort of close together, but situated for a reasonable amount of privacy. It was a little tight driving through and parking (with a 28" motorhome), but that was mostly because the place was packed and people were parked outside of their sites. There is no wifi or o/a tv. The Verizon signal was ok, but dropped off a few times. I had trouble getting reception on my satellite radio, given all the trees. As pretty a park as this was, I probably would not return, as the noise made me feel like I was parked under a busy freeway the whole time. - KAP99
Nov 2016 - $1.00
In November they close the bathrooms and turn off the water so all that is available is the electricity and dump and a porta potty But its a nice park, nice walking trails along the river. The trains always whistle as they go by, which is odd as didn't see any crossings, but its a nice sound and doesn't bother us at all. - Desertthorn

Aug 2018 - $50.00
Fairly tight roads and sites, but not excessively so. We had grass at our site and the staff encourages clean rigs, so washing your RV on site is OK. Cable for me was very fuzzy, so went OTA and got a number of Portland-based channels that were very clear. Train noise was minimal, unless they blow the horn, which was rare. Road noise was a bit bothersome outside, but not distracting. On most days I'm sure that there could be spectacular views of the river and gorge, but on the day I stayed there was a lot of smoke from the area wildfires, so visibility was only about 1 mile. Park staff advises to NOT drive your RV over the Hood River Bridge. We came in from the east and were advised to cross at The Dalles, on US 197. While this bridge was also a bit narrow, there was no toll. If coming from the west, ask the office for the best place to cross. My site was long enough for my 40-foot class A, but barely. We had to disconnect the toad before moving into the site. All the sites seem to be a bit on the short side. I would probably stay here again if in the area. - Scubadude62
Jul 2018 - $50.00
If spending the night in the parking lot of the 24 hour convenience store is what you're looking for, this park is for you. The park itself is ok, asphalt pads with grass in between (mostly, ours was river rock and unusable). The problem is that it sits right on the highway and adjacent to the 24 hour mini mart and gas station. It appears as though overnights and short stays are assigned the pull throughs in the row next to the gas station. In 7 years of RVing, I've never had such a horrible experience trying to sleep. Satellite reception is good, WiFi is good, Verizon cell signal is spotty. We didn't use bathrooms, showers or the laundry room. Office staff is great. - Chilerick
Jun 2018 - $49.00
This is a very clean well laid out rv park overlooking the columbia river. It would be a 10 had it not been for a very busy noisy road that runs right past the park. This combined with a well used rail track immediately next to the park detracts from the tranquillity and ambience. - flugelboneman

Jul 2018 - $45.00
This is a large state park with a campground, huge day use area, and a boat ramp. Unlike years past, the grass is being watered and is green and everything was kept clean and tidy. There was no one at the ranger station the day we arrived but we were able to find a campsite at the last minute. Sites are gravel, back-in or a semi-circle pull-off, level, and some with FHU and 30/50 amp. Some are shady, some open, and some are next to the Columbia river with river access. There is lots of space for walking. - JoyceM

We chose this private park over the State Park next door looking for a higher quality experience. Nope. For starters, you are packed in like sardines. The spots are some of the closest together I have ever seen. Yes, you can extend your slide-out, but it will literally be 2-3 feet from your neighbors picnic table. There is a row of partial hookup spots that back up to the river, but they're also packed in so tight that they block everyone else's view. The grass is dead and the soil is packed hard as a rock. The sites are uneven gravel and the roads through the park are two way and very narrow. Campfires? Nope. Never. You can use your propane fire, but there are not even fire rings (probably because of the dry grass). The wifi wasn't good enough to be called spotty - it was unusable. Someone mentioned that if you were near the bath house it worked better so maybe keep that in mind. Lots of hornets with no sign of any attempt to control them. I didn't use the bathroom except to look at them for this review. Clean enough, but one long room contained the sinks, stalls and showers. For the number of sites in the park, 82 I believe, it seemed like a bare minimum of facilities. The spots are long and I saw several class "A"s and toads so no trouble there. There was a lot of train noise, but I won't hold that against them, you should expect that in this area. Also, the staff was friendly and it's located close to highway 97 and I-84. Overall, I can't see why it's so popular. It was packed-even for a weekend. I would look elsewhere. - Trespasser
May 2018 - $35.00
On a Sunday in late May we tried to get into the next door State Park without reservations. Their RV sites were all full. So we went to Peach Beach Campark right next door. They had open spaces including some W&E spots on the water. Sites are close but expected for a commercial park. It's still a nice place. The loop and sites are gravel. There's some grass between sites. There are plenty of large shade trees. The W&E sites on the water face a small lagoon then the Columbia river. Views of Oregon are worth staying in these sites. The host was friendly and helped us determine which ones were open. They do not have an office. When you drive down their main entry way you'll be driving down the middle of where they have two dump stations on either side. At the end is a pay station with additional information about sites reserved for that day. On the west side of the park is a small gate you can use to walk into the day use area of the state park. - Neil and JoAnn
May 2018 - $40.00
After being buffeted by the wind Along I-84 I was pleasantly surprised to pull in and find a nice oasis protected from the winds of the Columbia River Gorge . Half circle pull thru's made it easy to get a MH and toad in with ease. Peach orchards abound. - Alaskamike

As we were part of a group I can't tell you the rate. Very nice and open parking. We clustered around several poles. The security light was switchable so you get some sleep. Most of the sockets on the poles were 50A. Call ahead to check rates and availability. - CharlieB

Spots are level and spacious. It was very nice for a fair grounds.
The only thing I didn't like was the lack of a dump station. - Impkitti
Sep 2015 - $15.00
This is a clean park with occasional distant train noise. Some events can also be noisy.
Sites are near-level unshaded grass. Voltage is good.
WiFi is strong. I measured 868.5 kB/s down.
Verizon LTE works well.
TV: ABC CBS FOX PBS. VHF weather radio is very weak.
The manager is friendly and helpful.
Unfortunately, camping is only allowed when some event is held, so it's best to call ahead well in advance. - wjzcbn

Best thing about this park is quiet which is why we chose it. Other parks are too close to busy highway and train tracks. There are about 40 sites with water hookups but no electric. Showers and bathrooms are old and run down but I suppose clean enough - they were cleaned daily. Best for smaller rigs but there are a few that can accommodate larger rigs. Pads are small but some are open enough that you can hang over the pad if needed. There was a 40 footer when we were there. Beautiful Hood River runs through it. There is a geocache at the park if you participate in geocaching. Also picked fresh wild blackberries while there. We stayed 4 days and I would stay again. - utchaps
Oct 2010 - $19.00
This Hood River County park is located on 36 acres along the South bank of the Hood River. The campground is close to town, yet quiet (no trains). The sites are kind of spread around with two sections, one mostly for RV's and the other for tent campers. Sites are available on a first come first serve basis with no reservations. We stayed in site E which had a wonderful view and sound of the roaring Hood River below. There is playground equipment, a picnic shelter, tables, and fishing. RVs up to 30' are allowed. The showers and bathrooms were in terrible condition and we didn't use them. Also be aware that the two electrical outlets next to sites M and N were not working at the time we stayed and didn't look like they had worked in a long time, however there is plenty of water at almost all the sites. - josh970506
