We stayed seven nights in a 40 foot fifth wheel. We just loved this park and will return. The site we were in was very long and had plenty of space between neighbors. The roads and grounds were well maintained. The entrance and exit was very easy with just a few potholes early in the season. This is a beautiful area with great access to the Clarion River and many trails through Cook Forest. The forest was preserved to allow access to several huge stands of old-growth Hemlock and White Pines. Breathtaking. Regarding value, I really see $41 per night with a senior discount as expensive for a state park especially during the time of year we were there. The nice thing about this time of year is that there were very few other camping. As noted in other reviews, this is an older state park so the restroom facilities are not "modern." They are kept clean by the camp hosts but they really need an upgrade. For what they are charging, they should be able to do that. The campground office looks like a brand new facility and is a bit down SR36 from the Ridge Campground. The staff were "nice" but not very helpful regarding what to do in the area or what was open this early in the season. Area and park are hopping between memorial day and labor day. This is the time of year to go if you just want to relax. Late June to early July the mountain laurel and rhododendron should be blooming. The forest is full of them and they line the banks of the Clarion River. Fall colors on the Clarion must be amazing. We have to come back and paddle then. We have a cell booster system and even with that we had very weak service. Could not get dish or OTA TV signal. Did I mention that we loved this park? Didn't want to leave! We camped at Cook Forest State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

There are two canoe/kayak outfitters near the bridge at SR36 for the Clarion river. Just do it...you cannot go wrong. We took the 10-mile trip which was a bit over three hours with good flow and little paddling. Hike. Hit the Fire Tower trail and climb the tower on a clear day. Wood is affordable in the park but better outside.

This campground is in a beautiful forest with a ton of hiking! The campground is large but only offers a small amount of pet friendly sites. The bathrooms were clean but really need to be updated. We were able to reserve a full hook up site which was nice for a state park! Most of the sites are shaded in the forest. Roads easy to navigate. Very close to the Clarion River which is fun to canoe in! Stop by the Pale Whale to rent your canoes and enjoy ice cream at their stand! We camped at Cook Forest State Park in a Travel Trailer.

We stayed in site 53 and our electric would not work in our camper on Saturday night 8/12/17. The park was clean and friendly people. The campground hosts need to do a little more about the traffic going so fast on the loops. I felt they were going way too fast in pet area. The rest rooms could use an upgrade or a paint job. No cleaning crew came to clean restrooms. We camped at Cook Forest State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Stayed in spot 002. Nice location but definitely not level. used two leveling boards for 3" rise on right side but bubble only just touching target.

Otherwise was nice place and would stay again but would select one of the other sites. We camped at Cook Forest State Park in a Motorhome.

Cook Forest is a large Penna State Park campground. Facilities are older but well maintained and kept reasonably clean. Full on labor day weekend and very smoky in the evening because practically everybody was running a fire. Average site size, some sites are too open to the roads. This park now has some sites with full hook up including sewer. Lots of activities available in the state park. We camped at Cook Forest State Park in a Tent.

We stopped here for one night while driving through the area. Difficult to find, narrow access roads, and address online leads to park office not "Ridge Campground". The showers had excessive pressure to the point that is hurt to be under water. Sites have electric hook up but no water. We camped at Cook Forest State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Cook Forest is a beautiful state park. Plenty to see and do. There is not enough pet sites in my opinion. The restrooms and shower house is in bad need of remodeling. Otherwise hot showers and flush toilets are a plus. Have camped here many times. We camped at Cook Forest State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Arrived at Cook Forest, registered and when we got to our site realized that we were in an area that did not allow dogs and we have 2. Tried to call the office and they close at 4pm, tried the camp host-no help there, had to call the reservation system and due to the poor cell coverage and our call getting drop, it took quite a while to correct. We finally got a site in the pet area but it took over an hour. We had an electric only site and there are not a lot of drinking water faucets in the park. The bathrooms are old but there is plenty of hot water. The hiking is good and that was why we were there so that did make up for some of the difficulties. This is a fairly primitive campground-limited hook-ups, poor cell coverage, difficult to get any internet, out-dated bathrooms but the trees are great. We camped at Cook Forest State Park in a Travel Trailer.

50 amp was nice, no water or sewer at our site, but many sites are being upgraded to full hookups, not reflected on website yet. Site very unlevel, even with levelers fully deployed. But good enough for slides to come out. Great location for Cook Forest State Park visitation. Gravel road and sites. We camped at Cook Forest State Park in a Motorhome.

Like always the park is fantastic. Our rate is for weekend with senior discount. Restrooms clean and sites are tidy. Grass is mowed and weeds are under control. Campground host is very present and on top of things. The same host has been there over 20 years. The swimming pool is closed, I don't know why or when it will reopen. We have always preferred the Clarion river over the pool anyhow. We intend to continue visiting this gem of a park. We camped at Cook Forest State Park in a Tent Trailer.

We camp here every year at least 3 times. We love it here. It is nicely shaded. They are all very nice at the office. We love the fact they have a dog area away from those of us that do not have dogs. I do wish that other campers would take a bag with them to retrieve their animals "droppings" when they walk them. The bathrooms do need some attention, but it truly is a wonderful park. We camped at Cook Forest State Park in a Travel Trailer.

This state park is nice. Yes the bathrooms are old, but they were nice and clean while we were here. The park amenities are rather spread out, as is the case with a lot of state parks. Clarion River is beautiful for kayaking and the livery service is located right at the park entrance. The old growth forest is beautiful. There is even a theater within the park. Quite a nice spot. We would camp here again. We camped at Cook Forest State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

This campground was hard to rate. The sites were spacious, well-maintained, and the rangers were very friendly. The kids enjoyed the ball field and riding their bikes on the paved, relatively flat roads. However, the restrooms are in rough shape - very old, a bit dingy, and in need of a remodel. There are not a lot of structured activities at the campground nor are there many hiking trails. However, there is plenty to do in the area - hiking, canoeing, mountain biking, etc. - all which are a short drive away. The campsites are gravel instead of paved, but there are plenty of sites with electric. This was our second trip to this campground and I'm sure we will return. The pros far outweigh the cons. We camped at Cook Forest State Park in a Travel Trailer.

The park itself is very nice, clean and appealing. They have somethings to do, like a movie one nite, which was nice. The only thing is the other campers. I chose not to stay in the pet area, but people walk their dogs everywhere, some don't clean up after them and let them bark. I just don't get it. The area itself is great for hiking and canoeing, which we love to do. Would stay here again. We camped at Cook Forest State Park in a Truck Camper.
