Reserve your site online and avoid having to stop at the office. (They will charge you a $6.50 service charge even if you register and pay at the office). Limited parking for big rigs at office. Campground entrance is temporarily 600' beyond regular entrance while new visitor center is being constructed. The 6+ mile drive off I-80 is a bit of a "whiteknuckler". Do not attempt at night. Lots of hiking (43+miles of trails), 10 miles to bike trailhead in White Haven. Some sites surround 2 huge open areas of grass (my preference). Wooded sites available too, as this is a huge park. We camped at Hickory Run State Park in a Motorhome.

The campground is about 2 mi past the park office on the right - I stayed in site 12, which is a huge pull-through next to the bathhouse, which is clean and new. While it rained most of my trip, it'd be a sunny, busy site in the summertime, and I'd recommend one further from the baths. The tiny red gravel sand they use gets everywhere... and many sites are very close. Very good Verizon reception here. Also many birds. We camped at Hickory Run State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Shades of Death trail is amazing - and is listed as "most difficult hiking," but it's relatively even elevation, it just follows a streambed and is strewn with glacial rocks. Also there's a town nearby, Eckley, maybe, where people are said to be paid by the state to perform as coal Miners. Intruiging! The Powerhouse (Power line?) restaurant a few miles north was both better and fancier than expected - the French dip is very good.

Hickory Run State Park campground looks like an old-fashioned campground in the PA State Parks system. Loops are gravel and meandering. Thickly wooded camp sites. Really nice if you like the woods. Restroom buildings are older and need maintenance. (Tile coming off in showers, one shower not producing hot water) There is an open air loop (basically a field) on the east side. If I had a big RV, I would go there. A large amount of campers are from New York and New Jersey. We camped at Hickory Run State Park in a Tent.

We were here early in the season. The park is not well-suited to RV's. There were several places where tree branches were left to grow over the roadways at a height that interfered with our TT. We are only 10' 6" tall, but the branches were still an issue. Aside from that, we had a nice stay. Lots of sites. Quiet. Friendly people running the place. You have to see the Boulder Field! Price reflects a non-hookup site and senior discount. We camped at Hickory Run State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Stayed here to visit friends nearby. Was a very nice SP. As noted, the roads there off interstate are narrow and hilly, but doable. Also as noted, signage in the park could use some work, but once we got to our site, it was fine. Didn't notice road noise behind us on 534, but we mostly stay inside. We had partial shade, but some sites are open. We were in pet section. Other sections are really wooded, so it just depends. Site was 50 amp, FHU, and was level. Decent space between sites. We were able to get OTA channels and had good Verizon coverage. We would stay there again when in the area. We camped at Hickory Run State Park in a Motorhome.

Stayed in Pet loop with full hook up (W/E/S). Sites back up to Rt 540, no road noise as long as trailer windows were closed. Sites are on edge of a field, no shade in summer. Park has miles and miles of hiking trails and biking trails. Close to Lehigh Gorge State park with thier 25 mile rail trail for bikes and foot travel. Lots of hunting and fishing opportunities. Boulder field felt like a bit of a letdown, not as large or impressive as one in Lenhartsville PA (blue Rocks Family Campground is at base of this boulder field). Overall Hickory Run is a nice destination park. There are black bears in the park. We saw two, a baby one day and a fully grown the next day. We camped at Hickory Run State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Rustic & woodsy, more our preference. Beautiful PK. Stayed mid week with few campers. Campsite had full amenities except for cable & wifi. Direct TV & Verizon recep. good. We were relegated to RV area for canine owners. Site good, backed up to route 534 with little to no traffic noise (woods between road and site).

Slight negative was signage, difficulty locating site. We camped at Hickory Run State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

PK is 6.2 mi total from Exit 274, off I-80 onto Route 534( follow PK signs) . 17% grade on 534 ( 2 Truck Gas Staions at Exit if need to disconnect tow ). Entrance to PK is NOT at Camp Office( PK Entrance is 2 mi on RIGHT past PK Office). Locating Park entrance was confusing.

Like any PA state park sometimes site selection will make or break your trip. We stayed in site 263 and had no issue with road noise or leveling issues. We also had NO issues with bears nor did we see one at all in our 4 days there. We visited the Boulder field which is a must if visiting the area. As far as cell service, I have AT&T and didn't have much of an issue with signal as others are stating. Roads in the state park are definitely hilly and the CG roads a bit tight but by no means undoable. We got nervous on night 2 when a tent went up next to us with 6-8 guys but surprisingly they were quiet and only dropped the F bomb a few times. They actually saw my kids and yelled "sorry" one time. My kids just rolled their eyes since my wife and I can have a bit of a mouth too. All in all, I've been here twice in the last 10 years but given the lack of activities it makes for a nice "every once in awhile" trip. There are just too many other PA CG's to enjoy in the fall. We camped at Hickory Run State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Feels remote. Sites are large. There are water spigots located throughout the campground, so no water at each site. No Internet or cell service. I was there during the week so it was almost empty. The bathrooms were pit toilets with no running water. There were hand sanitizers available. Fairly long narrow roads to get there. I would overnight there again for one night on my way to somewhere. I would only suggest you stay there if you are fully self contained. We camped at Hickory Run State Park in a Motorhome.

The thing that defines this park for us is the road from the interstate. Very bad up and down and narrow. That being said, other than the segregation of dogs, it really is not a bad park. We had no hookups and the site wasn't level but doable and the site was big. It was clean and the folks were nice. One surprise to us was NO ALCOHOL Really? After that road? We camped at Hickory Run State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

An excellent state park which offers a number of different rates to RVers depending on if you want rustic or full hookup. There is an excellent lake to swim in, but a major attraction is Boulder field, where a glacier melted leaving miles of boulders. It's great for a weekend. We camped at Hickory Run State Park in a Motorhome.

We had a great time camping here, it was our first experience at a PA state park, and it was everything we expected and more. This park has a lot of hiking trails, and we did only the "shades of death" trail and went to the famous boulder field, both were fantastic. The park has a very nice sand swimming beach that has a snack bar and restrooms, very nice. The campground was very nice, spacious, wooded, we stayed in an electric site. The restrooms were very nice and there was a separate dish washing area which was great for those who needed it.We would definitely go back. We camped at Hickory Run State Park in a Motorhome.

We stayed at this park on Memorial day weekend. We are usually State park campers. I booked site online, and got site 219 this was on second loop after the entrance to the campground, site was small but adequate, lots of tree's. There were a lot of nice larger sites, and we wrote these all down for future reference. This is bear country, we saw no sign of bears though, you must take care with your food and things just in case. The Staff there was very friendly, lots of things to do, lots of trails, very nice swimming area with snack bar. One big drawback was the bathrooms, 2 loops shared one bathroom, mens side had only 3 stalls and one urinal, womens was not much better, waiting was the norm in the morning. These were not well maintained either, at least not on this weekend, Other than that this was a great campground to visit, I will return, but not on a holiday weekend. We camped at Hickory Run State Park in a Motorhome.
