I saw the other reviews which made me question my reservations at this campground. However our experience was very good. The campground was clean, the pool was large and inviting, the kids enjoyed the water slide (extra charges), and we found the employees to be friendly and helpful. Liked the rock firepits - nice touch. In short it was a nice park and very nice experience. We took day trips to Newport and Mystic.
Ways to improve - we were told the wrong way to enter our site, which made getting in difficult. As others reported, for our 36 foot motorhome the pad was small - so had to be a bit focused on where to place the unit. It appeared that some of the newer sites have bigger pads. You do have to pay for showers, but it was reasonably priced. Although for the total amount we paid they should have been included. There were bugs in the shower which freaked my daughter out - but it is camping after all. The bathhouse (the one we used) was nice. My challenge was the sewer was VERY far from my valve. Had to purchase additional extension hose. One other downside was the wifi was only available/usable in the store and at the community center.
Overall a very good experience and fun few days. Would stay again if in the area. - T.Butter
May 2018 - $63.00
Customer service was snippy, unfriendly. Water pressure non- existent. Can't shower in own unit, showers are a fee. No gray water drain. Cable and pool down for the weekend, no discount. Charge for adult children. Only one vehicle allowed on site. - Fuller

This is a large, very attractive campground. There's a good mix of sun and shade. The camp sites are wide, though mine some somewhat skimpy fore and aft. What will bring parents is the wide range of activities for kids, not only a swimming pool, but a water slide, and much more. Getting there from Connecticut was short but concerning. My GPS routed me over roads that conscientious traffic planners would not want heavy rigs to drive regularly, and that includes the Gardiner Road that services the campground itself. Perhaps if Google Maps told me more about the roads it routes users onto, I might have avoided some of them. But from the driving I did in the state, it appears that Rhode Island officials have made the decision that they can't afford both to pay themselves competitive salaries and to maintain the roads. My site was satisfactory. It was wide enough for me to back into despite the tree and boulder right across the lane. I did have to park my trailer over the remains of a campfire that had been built there instead of in the fire ring. To be sure the grass and gravel site does not make a clear distinction between the part for trailers and the part for people. If I were the kind of camper that spent a lot of time outside in front of the RV, I would have found that burned ground annoyingly ugly. But I'm not, so for the most part, I didn't notice it. I would have thought that management would have noticed and corrected the burn. But I got the impression that the staff doesn't think along those lines. They proved more surly than friendly. They even have a sign next to the office door that says, in effect, "Don't bother me unless it's very important." A questionable way to greet customers, don't you think? - Jim Fulton
Sep 2016 - $40.00
No maintenance and zero management. Dog fesces on campsite , unkempt grounds, 10 hoses to water bib. No pressure, brown water and no grounds rules. Loud parties to the early AM. The city of Jamestown should be embarrassed.
The view and location was wonderful. - Coffeetrader
Jul 2015 - $50.00
The vast majority of campers here are seasonal but for transients, Ft. Getty Park provides an inexpensive alternative to private campgrounds or difficult to reserve state parks in this area of Rhode Island. The campground occupies the top of a knoll at the mouth of the bay, and to reach it one must pass through Jamestown itself. This will pose no problem to any but the largest rigs. Interior roads are paved and easy to negotiate. All sites are treeless, grass back-ins roughly 25' wide by 60' deep, laid out in rows, with nothing to separate you from your neighbor. Hook-ups are water & electric only; water connections for some sites will require 40 or more feet of hose. There are no amenities of any kind. Restroom and shower facilities are old but clean enough to be useable (we did not). A dump station is available at the park exit. There was no debris or trash of any kind on the grounds. Our mid-week stay was quiet however I think weekends may be less so. As a base for touring the area, it is adequate. We would stay here again. - RamWagon
Jun 2015 - $50.00
We really lucked out in both finding this place and getting a last minute spot! The location is a peninsula with beautifully groomed lawn, spacious and incredible views of the ocean. Very quiet and serene, Jamestown had great little stores and restaurants. We cycle and will definitely come back to ride the Island for sure.
The dump site is at the entrance and a bit of a walk or slow drive if your dumping via a portable dump tank. There is a pier where you can fish and relax.
Bring a 50 foot power cord, depending on the site we barely made it with our 25 foot cord, same goes with your fresh water hose. - koeka

Jun 2010 - $23.00
An older small campground. Mostly seasonals but there are some sites for transients. Electric is only 15 amp and not at all sites. However, it is on a very pretty pond. Road in has many low branches and is narrow. If you are coming from the east, be sure and take the 2nd end of Peachem Lane (it is semi-circular). Poor signage. Nice folks. - sleeps2
Oct 2016 - $37.00
The public roads coming to the campground had several low hanging branches. The original site was too small to get our rig into, but the staff was very helpful in finding another site. The site was level with central hook ups. The showers were older, clean, but limited warm water. The dump station was a maze to get to with low hanging branches. - Al and Anne-Marie
Jun 2015 - $45.00
Wanted a quiet campground and one that had hook ups, which is limited on RI shoreline. Very basic, but that's what we wanted - we are retirees. Plus close to shoreline/Matunock Restaurants/quiet little beaches on shoreline. Has a bass lake across the street which was lovely. Teenagers in park were out late, doing donut holes with golf cart on basketball court. Facilities were adequate/no campground store. Would go back again. Owner friendly and accommodating & liked 24 hour security. - Ontheroadagain 3
May 2015 - $35.00
The staff was friendly and helpful. There were many seasonal sites beyond the transient area. The transient area contained a bathroom / shower building which was dated but clean, also a playground. The pond is located some distance from the transient area and is across the road. The sites are quite sandy, fairly level and do not impress. - User2564
Jul 2018 - $62.00
Have RV traveled for 3 years. This is one of the worst parks we have seen. If our stay had been longer than 3 nights we would have left without staying. No effort to keep park maintained and clean. No TV; satellite, cable, antenna. No WIFI. Sitting outside was unpleasant due to condition of the park. Difficult to back into. Too shallow to easily keep tow vehicle in site, park knew our length when they assigned site. Rows narrow, only 1 road in/out. Impossible to get by incoming/outgoing rigs. - KCMO escapee
Oct 2017 - $38.00
We chose this campground because of the proximity to Mystic and Newport. The sites were spacious and level. We had a bad experience because we were next to a pavilion and one night there was extremely loud music until 9:00 P.M. We would stay there again but would ask if there were dances with loud music that night. - HaveDieselWillTravel
Sep 2017 - $38.00
We stayed after the season, so no one was in the office. Luckily the Fed-X guy was there on the campground phone with someone. When he was done he handed me the phone to talk with someone about checking in. They told us what site to go to and that they'd be by to settle up later on. The site was a level pull thru. Connections were very easy. It was pretty typical of a resort style campground...fairly close to your neighbor, but not intrusive. There was a pool and a lot of recreational activities to do in season. There was also a large rec hall that I think sold food. I can't really find anything bad to say about the place. They never came to collect the money, but when we were leaving I noticed someone in the office so I pulled over and paid. $38 for a campsite in New England was pretty darn good, as that area tends to be too expensive. I would definitely go back, and recommend it for both overnighters and a destination campground. - villager04
May 2011 - $40.00
It has filthy outdated restrooms. There are no activities for families or children. The playground consists of 2 swings. Water Hook-ups on sites are in a hole in the ground, very unsanitary. The sites are very close together. We would not stay here again. - Fulltimers8
Jul 2009 - $30.00
The bathrooms were outdated and smelled. The bathroom was filthy. I would never stay here again. The campground is out in the middle of nowhere. - bonitap62
Jun 2009 - $38.00
If you want peace and quiet, this is the perfect place to be. But to us that was the only reason to stay here. It is rather difficult to get to in our 40 ft. motorhome. The road is narrow with low hanging branches. Our site was very uneven and it was rather hard to level our rig. There was no designated spot for a dog walk, so we were always afraid we were somewhere we shouldn't have been. There was cable at each spot, but it was only available if you were staying for the season - not very accommodating. It was close to Providence, Newport, and Mystic. I don't think we would ever stay here again. - bobnpat
May 2017 - $45.00
Nighly rate is $45, but they charged an extra $10 for the Memorial Holiday weekend. This is a older campground with dated facilities. But the electric, water, and sewer were adequate. The campground has two sections, one to the right of the entrance road and the other to the left. The sites to the right are mostly seasonal and permanents. The roads here are real rough with large boulder tops that you drive over. There are also a lot of tree limbs to watch out for. The left side of the campground looked to be the better option. Most of the sites there were in a large field. Sites in both sections were mostly level, call them lumpy. But we had no problem leveling after taking time to position our MH. They have WiFi, but we were unable to connect to it from our site. OTA TV and Verizon cell were both good here. - Bob and Inga
Aug 2016 - $40.00
I chose this campground because I wanted to be able to make easy day trips to both Newport and Providence and this proved to be well situated for that. There are gravel driveways and grassy sites which included a picnic table. The transient sites are in a large open area with mostly pull through sites. We had a 30 amp electric, full hookup site. They offer free WiFi that worked very well for us. There is a cell tower within sight so our AT&T signal was strong, around -77 dBm. There is a pool, although we didn't make use of it. The bathroom was OK, somewhat rustic but generally clean, however, it could use more light. The owners seem to be part time and are absent for hours at a time and may take some time to even return your call. We paid $40 per night. They accept cash or check only. - Coopsecondact
Jun 2016 - $40.00
This campground has actually been excellent for the past 6 years. However they are now 50+ and do not want families with small children. So be aware if you are going there that it is great unless you are a family. Retirees only with grandchildren as visitors only. - LKD
Oct 2018 - $26.00
A very basic and small campground. There are six sites with no facilities except a single porta-potty. No trees so no problem getting satellite. Had very good TMobile service. The campground is located off of the main base, but fairly close. Very convenient location for all of the activities in Newport. - Chuck Shrader
Jul 2018 - $25.00
We stayed in a class "C" towing a dolly. Really long site with water & electricity only. A great view of the water & sailboats. No dump at all, we had to go the commercial RV resort about a mile away to dump the tanks. It's all about the great location for the area. This camp is not fenced off from the public but the base & its facilities are not far away. You need to go to the marina on base to finish the paperwork after you get set up in your spot. - becida
Oct 2017 - $25.00
Small park of only 6 side-by-side sites. Nothing exciting to look at, but great location. Near base and all the activities that Newport has. There is a portable toilet, but no bathrooms. Great price for camping in the northeast, especially if you have a family--no extra charge for kids. - RVerFamily
Oct 2018 - $47.00
Our site was in the lower section and it was very nice. It was level with a picnic table and fire ring. The cable at our site was not watchable but we got TV over the air and we did get our satellite to work. We very much enjoyed our time here and would stay here again. - Travelindog
Sep 2018 - $55.00
Traveling in a 38 foot coach we stayed 5 nights in a site for big rigs, site F13. The Good.... Big coaches need a gravel pad and we give this rv park 5-stars for the thick gravel pad. Each site has grass between and a nice brick pad with a fire pit. If you have a dog there is ample area to walk, plus a short walk down the lane is a great dog park. After 5 nights the dust on our coach was minimal compared to many other parks. The Bad.... Our site was not level (front tires were off the ground). If you desire privacy, request a site in the back of the park (sites are much roomier). Our satellite worked great at our site, however there are many trees in the back of the rv park so satellite reception would be questioned. On a side note: The office misled us in regard to their wifi. When we made our reservations we were told (both by phone and by email) that they have excellence wifi for checking email. Wrong! The entire time we were there only a couple times were we able to check our email (and that was after 11pm). Today we live in the age of wifi technology and there is nothing to stop this rv park from investing in doing wifi properly. For some users such as ourselves, wifi is an important feature and was one of the reasons for our stay here. We know enough not to count on a good signal over the weekends, but during the weekday there is no excuse. We even have the Wifi-Ranger on our roof with a direct-line-of-sight to their wifi source. There were no trees in the line-of-sight, and the distance wasn't a factor. If you're looking for a quiet and clean park where you can sit outside and relax... go here. We enjoyed our stay here, however because of their 'dishonesty' with the wifi strength we wouldn't return. - JDC10
Sep 2018 - $47.00
Campground has a nice appearance on entry, check in is easy. The roads are gravel and the sites are also gravel and dirt. The campground is tree shaded so satellite reception is not available for most sites. The cable is excellent. Our site, 107, was not the best, not level and mostly mud and dirt. Parking of the toad was very tight. Cell service is good. The campground is in a good location for visiting Newport, Portsmouth and Providence. We were there for just two days. - Nautilus
May 2005 - $27.00
Camp is needing some overall updating. It is pleasant with a pond for the kids, though parents weren't watching them. Minature golf is not kept up and needs a lot of TLC. Pool was very clean and well kept. Restrooms were not bad. I hear the camp is for sale and it looks as if it needs someone to bring it into this year, but not bad in general. We would stay there again. Note: They only accept cash and pets must be less than 25 lbs. - ctreichel
