Easy to find off of route 1. Not very convenient for transient unless your doing something down there. Having read prior reviews as we were in area 2, and knew to bring extra leveling blocks and boards. Site was clean but right out the door the grass was gone and it was dirty. We stayed in site 17 near the bath house and unless your deaf or don't mind the sound of the hand dryers going off all the time, don't park near them. They are loud. Area 2 is 30 amp so bring your 30-50 dongle. Grounds were spotless, staff very friendly. Nice place not sure we will ever return but glad we did once and had a great time. PS pay attention to CG map as it borders Galilee Escape Road and is well traveled. Other than the hand dryer area 2 site 17 was quiet. We had a great time there! Happy Trails. We camped at Fishermen's State Park and Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Newport and easy drive just 30 minutes away bring your EZ pass for the bridge. Parking in Newport can be challenging, but free public parking at Easton Beach then walk into town. Gallalee the fishing village has a couple of restaurants we liked Georges overlooking the ocean but for quick food, not fussy is Clamptins. Good grog at Captain Foggies and view of the fishing boats. Went to the lobster boats and bought large lobsters cheap compared to home and cooked then at the CG. Fantastic. Couple of state beaches nearby as well as Stop n Shop, fuel etc. Plenty of stores nearby. We bought our beer up the place behind the gas station up the road just before the route 1 on ramp. The liquor store near the cg not very good expensive and the owner not very nice. Sunset farms has delicious homemade sausage as well as fresh produce.

First Impression: Open. Appealing. Clean. Safety: No concerns. Access: US-1 off RI-108, south. Municipal road in good condition but coming down RI-138 from RI-24 north of Portsmouth is a teeth rattling, axle twisting, gut bouncing, soul crushing experience. Stay on RI-24. Good signage to the park, Garmin GPS is accurate. Office: Friendly staff, no store. Credit cards accepted. Online reservations available. No price discounts. Facilities: No pool, spa, fitness room or rec center. No laundry room. Nice restrooms but pay showers, clean, no mold, privacy curtain only. Outside, free shower stalls to remove beach sand. No propane sales. Small playground. No off-leash dog run. Campground: Not in a flood plain. Multiple restrooms too small to protect entire CG population. Lightly wooded. Interior roads are narrow asphalt in excellent condition with gentle turns and no overhead obstacles. Big rig friendly. Long coaches should not have maneuvering problems. Separate tent area/sites near restrooms. No yurts or cabins. RV sites are nearby-to-spacious, level, asphalt, pull-through and back-in, nice site landscaping. Pedestals at rear of site with electric 20/30/50; no meters. Adequate water pressure with good taste. Sewer pipe is 4" threaded, about 4" above ground level. No patios. Aging but usable picnic tables. Fire rings available. Good satellite views. No cable TV. No Wi-Fi. Verizon phone and 4G at 3 bars. No recycle bins. Noise: None. Very quiet. Bug Report (mid July): no insect issues. Runners: CG roads excellent for running. Yoga: Put your mat on the grass if so inclined. Conclusion: Score 7-Good. My opinion: slightly overpriced, excellent beach destination but out-of-the-way as a transient CG. We camped at Fishermen's State Park and Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Narragansett, RI, looks more like a large bedroom community. Ulltra-expensive houses (mansions?) on the ocean front. No national restaurant chains noted; typical fast food eateries (McD's, Burger King, Taco Bell/KFC, Starbucks). Diesel at Mobil just up from the State Park at $2.999 but more like $3.099 around town. Food at Coast Guard House (converted to a restaurant) is very good but pricey. Lots of public access beaches.

We spent 2 weeks in area 1. We had booked the site a year in advance so we paid the old rates. New rates have really jumped, especially if your not a RI resident. Sites vary a lot here, so site selection is important. Area 1 is 50 amp full hookups, area 2 is 30 amp full hookups and has a lot of grade, area 3 is canvas only and area 4 is 30 amp and water. As mentioned before the check in process requires license and registrations here. Also don't let your tires touch the grass. We camped at Fishermen's State Park and Campground in a Motorhome.

The Mariner Grille has some very good lunch specials and the food is very good. Spain's is a high end place and also very good but more pricey. The Bon Vue Inn is more of a local place but the food is also good here.

This campground is a new favorite! Beautiful grounds with full hookups (in areas 1 and 2). We camped on site 44 in area 2. As others have stated, there is a playground, tennis courts, volleyball net, and basketball courts. Grounds are also perfect for kids just learning to ride their bikes! On Sundays throughout the summer, there is a fabulous farmers market right at the main entrance. We found the staff and fellow campers to be extremely helpful and friendly. So much to do in the area and s beautiful campground, can't wait to go back!!!! We camped at Fishermen's State Park and Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

While there we visited Newport (O'Brien's Pub is a must visit if traveling with kids/dogs-they have a "fishing" fountain for the kids and dogs are welcome), several of the local beaches (they are all beautiful), and took daily trips along the beautiful coastline. A hidden gem that we found was Camp Cronin Fishing Beach. This beach is great for fishing and allows dogs, which was an added bonus for us. Locals like to visit this beach as it is free and a beautiful hidden gem! We also ordered food at Iggy's and went over to the Point Judith lighthouse to enjoy our meal.

From what I hear you can't get into this campground during the summer. So my husband and I went during April. It was very windy and chilly, but we had a great visit. Its a beautiful campground. When we were there Area 2 was mostly empty. Area 1 was mostly full. The history of the campground is very interesting, it was an old fort. There are several old bunkers. One you can climb to the top and climb up higher on a platform for a great view of the area. I can't wait to return again. We camped at Fishermen's State Park and Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Camped 1 night in a 22' Class C, no toad, 1st week of October. Convenient location to Newport. Do you want practice for a border crossing in your RV? This is park to stay. Be prepared to show your Driver's License, vehicle registration, proof of insurance, photo of your license plate, and proof of any vaccinations for pets you may have with you. I thought I was lost and at the DMV for a minute there. Once registered and in your site however, it's a nice enough place to stay while passing through. Many sites have thick hedges between them, giving you lots of privacy. They all seemed nicely level. AT&T service was pretty spotty, unless you hiked up to the top of the hill over the WWII bunker. Sites had electric and water but no sewer. Campground was quiet at night, and thankfully lacked bright floodlights and streetlights. Dump station was clean and easy to navigate the next morning. We had a nice stay and would stay again, just be prepared to "show your papers!". Be prepared to show DL, Insurance, Registration, Pet Vaccinations, etc. We camped at Fishermen's State Park and Campground in a Motorhome.

The campground is in the Newport area, at the end of a point about as far from civilization as it's possible to get in that part of the world. It's an old army camp, with bunkers from WWII. There isn't really anything to do in the state park except for a playground, basketball court, and a couple of tennis courts, but it's close to several beaches in the Newport area, and Newport itself. We sat out the tail end of hurricane Michael in Area 4, which is an older loop near the entrance. Area 4 has more mature landscaping and more privacy, but the sites are gravel (the newer areas are asphalt), and the drainage is terrible. This might not matter in normal circumstances, but in a deluge, we would have preferred better drainage. The drainage in the newer areas seemed to be much better. We camped at Fishermen's State Park and Campground in a Motorhome.

Area 1 is definitely the biggest, most spacious loop with FHU. And along the refuge. Such a good time we're returning in a few weeks. Yes, they require proof of car and RV registration and pet vaccines, so be prepared. We camped at Fishermen's State Park and Campground in a Motorhome.

There are 4 areas with different hookups. We had w/s/30amp electric in area 2 on a paved, sloped site. Area 1 sites are much nicer (longer, more level), but there is no bathhouse. Our site required quite a bit of leveling. Area 2 is hilly and very pretty. The roads were paved. The bathhouse seems new, but very poorly cleaned. You need quarters to shower & the showers had clumps of hair that were never cleaned during our extended stay. When they mowed, they did not blow off the sidewalks at the bathhouses so all that grass was tracked inside. There is no garbage can in the ladies room. We camped at Fishermen's State Park and Campground in a Travel Trailer.

We headed over the bridge to Newport & took an interesting tour. Then we went on the famous Cliff Walk. The bridge is a $4 toll each way. Down the road from the campground is a casual place called Iggy's that serves a variety of seafood including lobster rolls, clamcakes & doughboys. It's worth a try!

We were in a site along Galilee Escape Rd., which is noisy with traffic. Sites away from the road are preferable. (See map.) Area 4 is older, with more privacy between sites but no sewer hookups. Area 2 is more open, rolling and grassy; parking areas are paved but some require a foot or so of blocks to get your rig level. The best sites are in area 1 along the water; they can be (and are) booked 12 months ahead. Even though we were close to the road, it was obscured by lush growth of vines and shrubs, so our site felt very private. The campground is a WWII military installation, with an old observation tower, gun emplacements, etc. The playground has tennis courts. A water tower is nearby, encircled with Verizon cell antennas; reception is great. They insist on seeing a rabies certificate for your pet, even if it will not be going outside. You are asked to show your driver's license and RV registration on arrival. This campground is close to the Atlantic, so it gets a good cooling sea breeze most days in the summer. We camped at Fishermen's State Park and Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Galilee, RI is within a couple of miles, easily accessed by bike from the campground. George's and Champlin's restaurants there offer good waterfront seafood meals with outdoor decks and indoor seating, too. The Block Island ferry terminal is in Galilee. You could camp at Fisherman's, bike to the ferry, spend the day exploring beautiful Block Island, and catch a late afternoon ferry back. The regular ferry takes about an hour each way for the crossing.

The various loops ("Areas") in this campground are quite different from each other, which can really affect a review. We stayed in Area 2 in a 40-foot motorhome with tow car. When we booked online the site we picked (#9) was listed as 60 feet long, but our motorhome barely fit on the site and we had to park our tow car diagonally on the grass in front. Our site was also very un-level, but we were able to get mostly level by using a LOT of leveling blocks under our front wheels and jacks. Other sites in Area 2 were extremely sloped, and nothing but a very short travel trailer had even a chance of getting level. The sites were a little cramped for a state park, but more spacious than most commercial campgrounds. Area 1 was much nicer, all the sites were level, most were over 100 feet long, and very spacious. There's also a nice tenting loop and an older looking RV loop near the entrance. With that info out of the way, the campground was very pretty, nicely wooded, yet close to stores, restaurants, and other amenities. It's about a 45 minute drive to downtown Providence. It's a pretty large campground so we found plenty of places to walk our dog. Verizon was fast, AT&T had 2 bars but worked well. Staff was friendly. We'd gladly return, but only if we can get into Area 1 or speak to someone to find out the quality of available sites in Area 2. We camped at Fishermen's State Park and Campground in a Motorhome.

We stayed in site 99 in Area 1 which had full hookups and nice, spacious sites. The views were beautiful and our site was huge! This was a nice location for visiting attractions around RI, although we were only there for 2 days just passing through. We did make it over to Newport to hike on the Cliff Walk which was gorgeous. They ask for a lot of documentation when checking in like copies of all vehicle registrations and pet vaccinations. I haven't been anywhere that needed quite so much information. Just be prepared. Also they do not allow you to use your A/C which I thought was strange, but thankfully it was chilly when we were there anyway. Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile all worked well there. We camped at Fishermen's State Park and Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Stayed October 2017 We stayed in a motorhome and found this to be a spectacular state park. The sites were roomy and came with a spectacular view, one of the benefits of travelling in the fall season ... choice of sites. It was exceptionally clean and well maintained. The site we had was level and had the hookups conveniently located. All services worked without a problem. The location is perfect for exploring the area, and there is lots to see. Coming and going from the park is monitored, making for a safe place for all the gear that gets hauled out. The park covers a large area and it must be quite a site when it is full. Cannot comment on the park facilities as we did not use them. We camped at Fishermen's State Park and Campground in a Motorhome.

Ok...we drove in from Massachusetts...we had a 40ft motorhome...made the reservations about year in advance...When we got to our site, there was a hill right in the middle of the space...no way we could level it...there were no more spaces available...there were 3 spaces we had reserved and none were usable. We didn't even try to set up camp, they did credit our credit card, but never did get our hundred dollar deposit back. Highly suggest you Verify with a body at the campground whether the site is flat or not. Campground was clean and looked to be near water, but we never saw it. Also, very strict on check-in time. Near town and nice area. We camped at Fishermen's State Park and Campground in a Motorhome.
