Very clean, very friendly staff, beautiful park. Bring all food, no shops nearby. - adurstewitz
Dec 2017 - $42.00
Nice park with paved interior roads and sites. We visited at the end of December and had full hookups even with temps going below freezing at night. Campground was nearly full in the middle of the winter. Fair amount of waterfront sites as well. Value rating was due the the cost in the middle of the winter. Seems reasonable for a summertime, peak season rate, but a little high for off season. Not too far off I-77 for an overnight stop. - Dale-from-NC
Oct 2017 - $21.00
Small park, but nice and relaxing. I wish the park service would enforce the rule of people parking on the sides of the roads within the campground. Makes it difficult to get in and out of spots in a 40' pusher, has to be just as difficult if you're in most any size pull behind as well. - gsc66
Apr 2018 - $40.00
It says that it's on the lake. the only thing that's on the lake is actually the dock, the restaurant office and the little deck that they have. All of the campsites are up a hill with no view of the lake. Actually there are houses between you and the lake and a lot of woods so if they tell you it's lake view it's not. The sites are mostly gravel, some grass but most of them were gravel. Most of the sites are un-level because they were on a hill. Took us a little while to get it situated but we finally got it taken care of. There's one bathroom facility and the doors are locked so you have to have a code to get into it. They were clean but the men's room only had one working shower. There were no real amenities at the location. There was a couple little playgrounds, one volleyball net that was falling down, a dock that you can't use unless you rent a slip, a very nice deck area and a small bar and grill. I was told there was a laundromat but I never saw it. They do have little dog bags station all around the park. There was full hookup for most of the sites but for $40 a night I don't really think it was worth it. No WiFi and poor cell phone reception. - Stephen Howard

Apr 2019 - $20.00
Military campground for DoD civilians, military families and retirerees only. Stopped overnight for a picturesque stay at this campground located on Wateree Lake. We did not take advantage of their boat, beach, lake, or fishing amenities. Our reserved spot was waiting for us as we checked in after the office was closed. Spots are concrete, mostly level and fairly close together. Fire ring/grill, picnic table and full hook up at our site. 30 minutes away from nearest highway or town. We would definitely stay again, but pack all your essentials before you come! Our site (4) was lovely, although we had to back our airstream off the pad to reach electrical that didn't reach the standard 25 foot hook up. Water was located on the opposite side. - Live Riveted

Military and DoD only. Shaw Air Force base's Wateree Recreation Area is located about 35 miles north of the base near Camden, SC on Wateree Lake. Situated on a peninsula of 25 pristine wooded acres, Wateree Recreation Area is designed for the recreational enjoyment of military members, their families, retirees and all other authorized DoD customer. They have several sites for big rigs. Tent sites too. This is a clean modern facility. Wifi is $5/day extra. No cable TV. About 15 OTA TV channels come in. It's about 10 miles to the closest town (Camden). Pontoons, ski boats, Jon boats, peddle boats, kayaks, canoes, to rent and big boat ramp with docks. Playground. Seasonal Beach. Apr 2019 - $20.00
Nicely paved sites, but tight to get into. 1 or 2 sites are level, most are not so brings some blocks or jacks for the slope. All sites have picnic table & fire ring that have been nicely kept. This is a small campground with nearby neighbors but a lake to your back so rent a canoe or fishing boat and ditch the closeness. Very enjoyable and quiet place. - RV_Couple
Oct 2017 - $27.00
Lovely place to spend a fall week-end. Not a lot of "attractions." There is a nice museum and some well kept trails but I think the main draw is the peace and quiet.
Our 23' TT and extended cab fullsize truck fit fine, but I wouldn't want to pull much longer in there. But there was a 40' class A in the pull through site next to us, so it can be done.
Mostly shady sites. Clean restrooms. Site surface is a concrete pad featuring a fire ring and picnic table. - richamor
Jul 2017 - $20.00
Campsites are extremely tight. This park could be much better, but too many trees and sites are too close together. I almost gave up but we finally we able to get our camper in after neighbors moved their cars. The trees right on the road make navigating through the park hazardous. We stayed in one of the only two full hookup sites. The back-in site stated it was for a 40 ft camper but was really for a pop up. Site was very unlevel. There is a nice lake for fishing so its not all bad, but campground needs to cut some trees before I will go back.
You get what you pay for. Don't expect a lot of room. - Pete Trurnero
May 2019 - $40.00
We stayed 2 nights for a quiet rest on the way up north, and did not unhook the toad. Secluded, quiet campground with full hookup, easy access from interstate. Very friendly and gregarious hosts, Angie and Ed, made us feel welcomed. Ed even drove my husband around in his golf cart to show him the 2 beautiful ponds and walking trails to take our dogs! Senior and military discounts, cash or check only. - petdoc
Apr 2019 - $25.00
This is a small campground in 2 sections. Upper level where office is looks like all seasonals, all neat, nothing unsightly or cluttered. Some landscaping, a small playground, a pond. Lower section is where we were. You go back down the street to a different entrance. Owner guides you. There is a trail between the two sections. Actually, lots of trails around the campground. Second pond on lower section. Our site was gravel, mostly level. Picnic area is mulch. Not as much landscaping but maintained. Our site was a nice size. We were in site 6, 5 is huge. Our view was looking into the woods as were most of the sites. Owners were friendly, did not really see anyone else. No wifi or cable but decent OTA and satellite was fine. The campground website was down while we were there, but was up when I made the reservation. Check or cash only. I would stay again, peaceful and lots of places to walk. 30 - 45 minutes north of Columbia, SC. - TravelingParkers
Jan 2019 - $35.00
Little Cedar Creek has become a regular overnight stop for us on our trek south for the winter. The welcome at check-in was very pleasant, and our pull-thru site near the office was large and easy to access. The park was very clean, as well as very quiet at night. The hook ups were easy to reach, and the 50 amp power was was solid. Note that this park accepts cash and checks only, and they offer a veterans discount. We will definitely return the next time we're in the area. - NYDutch
Aug 2019 - $23.00
Our RV is 33 ft and we have a full size 4 door truck. There was plenty of room for both on Site 12. Also, Site 12 is the only site with a direct view of the lake. Site 10 was behind us but on the website it looks as if they have a view. Our RV blocks their view. Site 13 positions the RV toward the woods and the end toward the lake which doesn't give you a lake view. The bath house is directly across the road. It is clean. At the lake there is a newly constructed dock, fire pit with seating and two swing benches. - Carrie Mustin
Oct 2018 - $28.00
The staff were very helpful and courteous. The site was 50 amp newly installed. The water was innovative with a installed back flow preventer. With campers close by, it was very pleasant. - FrederickC

Chester State Park is a beautiful, small campground. The grounds and roads are very well maintained, and the sites are clean. Sadly, there are only 3 sites with an open view to the lake (which is 50+ yards or more away)... which means that if anyone wants to spend time at the lake (which is everyone), they have to cut through the areas around those 3 sites to get to it. This doesn't seem like it would be an issue, as there are several ways to get around the sites without cutting right through someone else's campsite, but it seems that cutting through an actual site is the way most people made their way down there. Basically, there's not much respect for "personal space". We didn't really have an issue with this, and still found the trip to be very relaxing (even with the distance to the lake, the view was amazing), but if you are more of a private person, this may be annoying to you. Another nice feature is that this park has a disc golf course, but you need to be a bit better than a beginner to really enjoy it (we are beginners). The course is cut out nicely, but it's still like hiking and the "rough" is really rough, so losing your disc in the woods can result in a lot of brier cuts and scrapes. - FlowerChild7275
Sep 2019 - $35.00
This is a nice clean park and very quiet. I agree with the 2 previous reviews. Sites are nice although they do slope front to back but I had no problem getting my motorhome level. The check in was simple and the park rangers were very nice and helpful. All hookups worked good. No wifi and not much chance to get satellite due to trees but there are numerous over the air channels. Do not follow your GPS as our took us 20 minutes out of our way. We would return to this park. - RayN
Jun 2019 - $30.00
In the area visiting family in Monroe. This county park is the closest and was quite a nice surprise. 30 minutes to Monroe and 15 to Waxhaw and the closest grocery shopping. The park does have a small store with ice and drinks. Ice is as cheap as in Walmart ($2.00/10 lb bag). Since it's a county park alcohol is officially prohibited. There are a total of 120 sites with about half gravel and the other concrete. Almost all sites have a slight slope front to back, but bad enough to get level. Even on the busy weekend, it is surprisingly quiet. During the week, it's even quieter. Forget getting satellite reception because of the many trees, but with the beautiful setting, who cares. All sites are back in with plenty of room to maneuver. The park is secured at night after 9:00 pm with an automatic coded gate. We would definitely stay here again. The large lake and beach will be a hit with the kids or adults, as well as 2 playgrounds for them. Boats are allowed on the lake and fishing is supposed to be quite good. Non residents pay $6.00 per day for power, water and sewer. - 2sunkid
Jul 2018 - $32.00
We thought we would give this park a try, as we had never stayed in a county park. I was pleasantly surprised with this facility. The full hookup sites are really nice because they are paved and near the lake. Nice size lake and you can bring your boat if you like. Beautiful and peaceful place with lots of things for kids to do. The only negative I can think of is some of the hookups are placed in kinda weird places, and longer hoses are needed. We will definitely be returning! - Bullit

This is an attractive park on a lovely lake. However the sites were difficult to navigate, We were in a 38' fifth wheel and ended up parking in the large lakefront lot and walking around trying to find a site that we could back into. They claim to have pull throughs, but I didn't see any. If you have a smaller RV and can get here early in the afternoon ( no reservations), this would be a nice place to spend some time. - eimac
