Another very nice COE campground. Paved roads and sites with lots of grass and widely spaced trees. Each site with table and fire ring. A ½ mile away from highway. Surrounded by big trees so very quiet. Sites with and without trees. No Wi-Fi, no cable TV, good cell signal, satellite TV signal in most sites. No game room or club house, pool, playground, or laundry. Close to a recreational boat launch and right along the Intercostal waterway. A campground not a resort. Good for big rigs. Staff friendly and helpful. 25 miles north of Charleston. Price for Senior Golden age pass. We camped at Buck Hall Recreation Area in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Spend time in historic downtown Charleston 30 miles away. Farmers market, historic houses and buildings. Go to Fort Sumter, site of the first battle of the Civil War. Dinner at the SeeWee restaurant 10 miles south on Hwy 17. Rustic looking outside, great authentic local seafood.

Great camping area. Sites are well spaced. Most are open with full sun. There is a dump station on site. There is no gatehouse, however we were greeted by the camp host upon arrival. The site was easy to locate and very easy to back in. Our site (6) is adjacent to the woods and offered more privacy than the others. There is a large staging area adjacent to the camping area. Perfect spot to hitch or unhitch a tow. Boat launch next to camping area Hiking trails Major stores are 20-30 min drive away. We camped at Buck Hall Recreation Area in a Motorhome.

The park is small, quaint, quiet and beautiful. Stop at the camp host to check in. The bathhouse, unfortunately, needs to be torn down and replaced. One stall in operation and I refused to use it. If it was in good working order, I would have given this park a 10 rating. The camp host greets you when you arrive if you follow the signs. (The sign needs to be enlarged or replaced). There are 14 RV sites and 5 tent sites. The site we had was perfect and I would reserve it again. The view of the intercostal was beautiful and I believe could be viewed from all the sites. There was a public grassy area with benches directly on the waterway. It would be very nice if there were also picnic tables in this area. A short walk to the boat launch. There isn't much to do here but read a book and watch the boats go by which is exactly what we wanted at this time. We camped at Buck Hall Recreation Area in a Travel Trailer.

Buck Hall Recreation Area is conveniently located right off route 17. The $20 includes a $10 senior discount plus a $10 reservation fee! The reservation fee seems awfully high but I assume it is the same whether you reserve one night or several nights. We only stayed one night so it is steep. There are some overhanging trees but fairly easy to dodge. This is an older park so the sites are narrow but plenty long enough for any size rig. They are all back-in and some would be tricky to get a big rig into. The sites are paved and some have trees but they offer little shade. Site 8 could use some trimming. The park itself is full of beautiful trees and it is right on the Intracoastal. It was fun to watch all the boats passing by. They also have a boat ramp. Bathrooms were under renovation. The showers worked but not all the toilets. They had port-a-potties set up. There are lots of no-see-ums especially at night. The sites are water and electric with a dump station. DirecTV satellite worked fine in our site (9). Verizon was 4g-3 bars. For the most part it is very quiet although you can hear some traffic noise from Hwy 17 even though it's a fair distance away. We would stay here again. We camped at Buck Hall Recreation Area in a Motorhome.

We used our National Park Pass for a discount at this US Forest Service recreation area campground. There are only about 13 or 14 very large sites. It was just a lovely park like setting on the inter-coastal waterway with a very good boat launch area. Buck Hall is grassy, and treed. We camped at Buck Hall Recreation Area in a Motorhome.

Buck Hall is a US Forest Service recreation area campground located on the Intracoastal Waterway. Hook-ups include water and electric. The sites are long and with the exception of site #6, are level. The campground is a lovely setting off the beaten track with beautiful views of the waterway and surrounding salt marsh. The Host is very friendly and helpful. We camped at Buck Hall Recreation Area in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

The Hampton Plantation is a South Carolina State Historic Site. Tours of the plantation house are available. An archaeology dig of a former slave cabin is ongoing. The US Forest Service Visitor Center, when open, offers very good information on the former rice production which was an early commercial venture in the area.

Overall Rating:

This campground is along the Intracoastal Waterway and part of the Francis Marion National Forest right off of route 17 about 30 miles north of Charleston, SC. Sites are spacious but in an open area. One can put in their boats on the Intracoastal Waterway for touring, fishing and shrimp baiting. All kinds of fish are found here and one is close by boat to the Cape Romain National Wildlife Refuge and Bulls Bay which is the coasts best shrimp baiting area. All the sites can view the Intracoastal Waterway and watch fishing boats as well as pleasure boats sail pass the campsites. There is also a hiking trail (Palmetto Trail) in the park which crosses the state of SC. This trail is used for biking, hiking, and horseback riding. Full hookup sites are available. Bathrooms need to be updated but they were clean. It cost with Golden Age Pass about $10 but if you reserve you have an additional fee. I have always heard nice things about this campground and it is a good stopover or for even longer periods of time especially if you have a boat and like to fish. Host was informative and available. We stopped for only one night and two thirds of the sites were taken and almost all of them were reserved for the weekend so reservations might be necessary. We camped at Buck Hall Recreation Area in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

This was a nice spot. September is shrimp season so everyone else was here to catch shrimp. That made it interesting but a bit noisy. Fisher folk are focused on fishing and when they get back to camp they don't care too much about the nice views, etc. They are friendly folks but like to shine their lights bright and turn the country music up loud. The toilets and showers were clean. It is a comfortable 20 - 30 minute drive to Charleston. There is plenty to do in the area and it is well worth a visit. In September the mosquitoes were a bit fierce so come prepared. Definitely a nice spot that will give you a good base to explore the low country. We camped at Buck Hall Recreation Area in a Motorhome.

Bathrooms were not really too bad, just messy. The electric 30 amp connection was really loose, I used my 50 amp adapter connector to hook up. This Forest Service campground is really nice. Our experience with the camp host was excellent. Distance to Mt Pleasant was too much, probably will stay at the the KOA next time, even though I get the 'Old Greezer" rate. What a wonderful, peaceful National Forest Campground with nice facilities. The sites are very spacious and all have a nice open view of the waterway. Nice host that is very helpful and attends to his duties very well. Great little fishing dock and while we were here, saw the dolphins jumping and even a small cruise ship pass this way. Good location to enjoy Georgetown or Charleston, staying out of the congestion. We camped at Buck Hall Recreation Area in a Fifth Wheel.

Stayed here 3 nights and was very nice although kind of wet due to some heavy rains the week before. The dump station was closed when we visited due to high water levels. A nice, pretty but plain campground. A pleasant drive to it from the north. Was reasonably close to Charleston and the area around it. Took at least 15 minutes to get to the nearest grocery or restaurant if memory serves. We camped at Buck Hall Recreation Area in a Motorhome.
