The best place on the beach. Kid friendly, quiet at night, lots to do and see inside park. Staff was awesome. Close to restaurants in Murrells Inlet. Have already booked for next year. We camped at Huntington Beach State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Stayed in south loop with paved site which did have quite a slope front to back. Great walkway to a practically private beach. No bag stations for our fur baby girl so bring your own. Office/store staff very nice and we were able to borrow a beach wheelchair for a day. Lots of ants - our granddaughter stepped on a hill between our sites and got many bites! Campground rangers offer a variety of classes and grand kids got to use a seine net and went crabbing. Bring bikes - beautiful place to take a ride. Already booked next trip! We camped at Huntington Beach State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

The South campground has paved, full hookup sites and gravel patios. The spacing between some sites is minimal. Many of the sites are nicely shaded and the sidewalk to the beach from the campground is paved. This section of the beach caters to the campground guests and is not crowded, even when the campground is full. Sewer is located at rear of sites - may need extra sewer hose(s). There are bike trails throughout the park and lots of opportunities to observe wildlife. We camped at Huntington Beach State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

This was our 3rd time at this park. It is a vacation destination for us. We have stayed in both the older North section and the newer South section. The North section has some full hook up sites bit most sites are electric/water only sites. There is a very easy access dump station located at the entrance to the North section. I think the electric in the North section is 30a only, even at full hook up sites. The sites in the North section are packed gravel with surrounding grassy areas. The South section has concrete pads and all are full hook ups. The pads are only wide enough for your RV. The surrounding area is mostly sand/grass. We prefer the South section, but the sites are smaller and spaced close to your neighbor. Wifi is available, but like most parks, it is overloaded during peak hours and you have to be close to one of the buildings where it is mounted. Verizon is spotty, but it has a strong signal on the beach. We camped at Huntington Beach State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

We have stayed here many times in the past, but this is the first time we stayed in the new south section which has full hookups. Sewer connection in the very back of the lot. We needed four sections of hose to connect. Beautiful state park, exceptionally clean, easy beach access and mostly retired people staying there. That made it very quiet and enjoyable. Not much for the kids unless they like the beach. The only drawback is weak wi-fi signal. It is great if you are close to the bathhouse, but we were nine sites away. No signal and limited Verizon signal available. We stayed at a reduced ADA price and in a fifth wheel. We camped at Huntington Beach State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Too many restaurants and shopping outlets to recount. It is after all, close to Myrtle Beach with all of the associated touristy things.

We love this State Park. The traffic is terrible and heading south on 17 from Myrtle Beach you need to be in the left hand lane not to miss it. Our site 35 had sun in the morning and shade at night. The path to the beach was one site over. Pets are allowed on the beach just not in the North Beach area near the Bird Sanctuary. One can bike around the park to the different beaches, the historic site of Atalaya and to all the birding spots. There is also a country bike trail at the entrance to the park. It was so great to wake up to all the birds chirping. The staff is very friendly. The bathhouse has been updated since the last time we were here. There are gators in the park so be careful. This was just a two night stop for us but I think the next time we will stay a week. Close to Myrtle Beach so heavy traffic especially at prime time. This campground has two sections the North Campground (where we stayed) and the South Campground which is newer with full hookups & 50 amp. Both of these campgrounds have a path to the beach. It is a beautiful park. We camped at Huntington Beach State Park in a Motorhome.

A gem of a state park campground in a great area. Lots to do in the area, lots to see in the area, and a great beach...what more could you ask for? Stayed in the south campground with full hookups. We even had internet coverage at our site. Many sites in the south campground are close to each other, but the space is manageable as you are also so close to the beach. North campground sites more spacious but lack sewer. However, dump station was close and clean, so we may book the North campground next time. Lots of space to bike and hike and the Atalaya Castle (on-site) was an interesting tour. Folks were friendly and check-in (at the gift shop) was easy. We will be back. We camped at Huntington Beach State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Brookgreen Gardens (across the highway from entrance to the park) was phenomenal. Hundreds and hundreds of spectacular sculptures in a beautiful garden setting. We did a boat tour of the old rice plantations ($8 a person) and had a great time. Went to Myrtle Beach briefly but found too much to do in Murrells Inlet to find time for Myrtle Beach.

Our 2-day stay was our 2nd stop at Huntington Beach St Pk. Honestly, if the weather accommodates, and it usually does during the spring and fall months, there isn't a more beautiful, well-managed, and well-maintained beach-front state park on the East Coast. As others have said, the south section CG was recently opened and its sites had sewer service, but, for us, it's more a paved parking lot than a traditional woodsy campground. Our site in the north section was spacious, shaded, and offered a sense of personal space. As for amenities, the St Pk is a mecca for beach walkers, bird watchers, casual hikers, and cyclists. We used our Verizon hot-spot because we seemed just out of reach of the park's wifi. We had just enough of a southern sky view to set up our DISH satellite, so we didn't log into OTA TV channels. Note: Reservations are highly suggested, especially on weekends, even during the late fall and early spring months. We camped at Huntington Beach State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Terrific park! The staff and facilities were excellent. From the gate house employee to the gift shop/office and grounds employees, everyone was professional and kind. The facilities were very clean and the grounds well manicured. Our site was roomy with well maintained hook ups. The ocean was a very short walk from our campsite and we could hear the ocean from our site. We camped for one night in a 33' motorhome. We camped at Huntington Beach State Park in a Motorhome.

First time at this park and we will be back! We were only able to stay 2 nights and wish it could have been more. Although we couldn't see the ocean, we could hear the waves crashing from our site #17, which was a quick walk to a huge beautiful beach. Our spot was shaded, very spacious and private, as were most all sites on the outer loops. Even inner loop sites were quite large, although not as private. Bathrooms were clean and convenient, although we didn't use the showers this trip. Wifi was strong when close to bathrooms and TV antenna reception was good - we got most network channels. We checked out the newer south campground which I understand has full hookups. Sites were paved and closer together, with not much privacy, so we preferred the north campground. Lots of hiking, both on paths and on the beach. We spent a lot of time watching the abundant wildlife in the freshwater ponds...birds, gators, turtles. Had a wonderful talk with a park ranger on one of our hikes - he was a great source of information. According to other campers, the weather is quite temperate throughout the winter. We enjoyed 50-60 degrees, although the temps were dropping when we left. We did not get to tour Atalaya Castle (located on site) or Brookgreen Gardens (just outside the gate) due to time limitations, but will definitely do those when we return. Although we play golf, we were not able to take advantage of the hundreds of courses in Myrtle Beach, also on the schedule for a return trip. We camped at Huntington Beach State Park in a Motorhome.

Stayed for a month with the 30 Day Snowbird Special (50% off). Had one of the few full hookup sites. Most in the North campground don't have sewer, but are very spacious. The South Campground has full hookups and concrete slabs, but are packed in like sardines. Our hookups were great, sites were very very spacious with grass and gravel and lots of trees and wildlife. The beach is a very short walk and the Huntington Estate "Atalaya" was very interesting, as was Brookgreen Gardens across the highway. This was a great campground for walking the dogs, and that's important to us. We would certainly stay again. We camped at Huntington Beach State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Brookgreen Gardens is an absolute must, as is "Atalaya Estate" within the park. The paved walking trail that goes between the two ponds within the park will give you views of several dozen alligators. I was actually surprised by the number of alligators in the area, even in the midst of winter.

Our first visit to Huntington Beach and we will be back. We stayed in the older (north) loop, site 29 (electric and water). Great site - large and level, easy walk to beach. #31 next to us was a nice private site. We had good cell (Verizon) signal most of the time but WiFi was spotty at site. Picnic tables near restrooms for better signal, if needed. Great park for walking. The north campground has better privacy/foliage. Watch the sites on the inside of the loops as these were generally flooded while we where there (lots of recent rain). Some of those sites had water on 3 sides leaving little space left. We also liked the sites on the back end of this loop (133-107). More private but space may be an issue for larger rigs. The South Campground (new) may best be described as a small RV park. No privacy, very close sites (pad after pad after pad). They offer full hookups so if that's important, south would be a good option. Restrooms were cleaned frequently. Showers good but noticed hot water was scarce if showering in the morning. The beach is stunning. Packed sand, great for walking. The gift shop/store is just that...gifts, t-shirts, sweatshirts with a few camp items available. We camped in our Roadtrek (about 24') - no tow vehicle. We camped at Huntington Beach State Park in a Motorhome.

Easy in & out. Level concrete sites in north end. Power pedestal, water & sewage hookups very good. I enjoy the randomness of campground sites as opposed to the side by side straight alongside the road sites of Huntington North end. The big draw here is the beach and its access. We stayed in the new South Campground. New asphalt road to get there and found new, level concrete pads with new tables, fire rings and a post to hang a lantern. FHU power checked good and water pressure was good. The area was patrolled regularly by DNR and the staff were very friendly and knowledgeable. No cable and limited wifi at the comfort station. Poor phone reception. Great bathhouse w/plenty of hot water with a seat and assist rails in the shower stall. Toured Atalaya Castle, interesting. Concrete access to the beach. Watch for stickers off path. We camped at Huntington Beach State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Some of the sites are very sunny, some are very shady. The closer to the beach you get, the less shade. Sites on the back where we were very isolated from each other and offered complete shade. The bath houses on the front were a little nicer than the one near us. The park has a north campground and a south campground. Sites on the south end are small. However, they are a little closer to the beach and they are paved with full hookups. If you like watching birds, this is a great place. We also saw quite a few gators in the ponds. Great trails for bike riding or just walking. We camped at Huntington Beach State Park in a Motorhome.

If you want to escape the headache of Myrtle Beach traffic, this is the place. Murrells Inlet is just north of the campground and has a lot of places to eat. We went to the waterfront several times and got a great meal each time. Go out early in the morning or late evening to view wildlife -- you won't be disappointed.
