We stayed in site G8 with our toy hauler. We had plenty of room for the truck, camper and bike. Lake Marion is just beautiful and this CG has a swim area roped off for safety, a pier to watch the gorgeous sunsets and a pool for those that prefer swimming in a pool. Trash is picked up daily. Big mature trees provide shade. Definitely worth the drive from KY. Charleston area was our destination for future house hunting so we actually meant to stay closer there but what a gem we found in this KOA. We camped at Santee / Santee Lakes KOA (formerly Santee Lakes Campground) in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

A short drive across the bridge and you will find the restaurants and grocery store. Charleston is a 2+ hour drive but Summerville is a bit closer. Take the back roads to enjoy the scenery on your drive.

As a new KOA, this campground needs more updating. However, it has great potential. The sites are under shade trees. It is along a lake with a dock. There is attractive outdoor furniture. It is an easy on-off the highway in a beautiful setting. We stayed heading north (April) and again heading south (May.) The hookups were well placed and everything worked the way it was supposed to. Unfortunately for us, there is only one site long enough for us to stay hooked for an overnight stay. In April our site was long enough but in May we were a bit into the road both in the front and back. There were may short sites that would have been perfect for tent camping. If they are able to make some longer sites we would gladly be back. Otherwise, we will need a different option in the future. We camped at Santee / Santee Lakes KOA (formerly Santee Lakes Campground) in a Motorhome.

For being new to the KOA family this place wasn't bad. Lots of trees but our dish still worked. Pet friendly park. Would stay here again. Some sites look uneven but ours was pretty good, let them know you have a satellite dish and they will help you get a good site. Used this campground for an over night stay only. I arrived after dark and my check in package was on the door. Only real complaint was that the water pressure was very low. I had to use my water tank and water pump to take a shower. They had power problems for several hours prior to my arrival (not their fault, outside the park issue), so this may have affected their water also. We camped at Santee / Santee Lakes KOA (formerly Santee Lakes Campground) in a Travel Trailer.

Very old campground in the process of renovation. Power and water pressure were adequate and sites fairly level. Interior roads mostly dirt. Staff was nice, but freely admitted that they were not up to KOA standards - yet. At $59 the value is definitely not there. Don't plan on staying here again anytime soon. Staff was very nice and helpful. We could not even find our road to our site and it was right behind the office, but staff was kind enough to come out in the rain and point it out.....I was like...OKAYYYY!!! Just old an rundown and it appears to be a full time resident community, not a campground. We will never stay here again, front desk staff was very nice but we should have been told that this is NOT the place to bring a 45 foot bus. Dirt unlevel roads, soggy unlevel sites.....I could go on and on but, I leave with the staff was very nice and helpful. This is certainly not an upscale campground. We are here for just 1 night on our way south in a 2016 Tiffin Allegro Red and clearly the newest and nicest RV in the park. Only 1 other class A and it is much older. Most are older 5th wheels and trailers and permanent or vacation homes and not particularly maintained. Park is on the lake, but no campsites on the water. There is a boat ramp. About 1/2 the sites are water/electric only. Sites are dirt and some grass and roads are dirt, rutted and poorly maintained. We were planning on staying here again next week for 1 night on our way home to NC, but will try another campground. Tips for other Campers:

Not much to Santee. A couple of OK golf courses. One nice but expensive restaurant (Clarks) and a bunch of fast food and chain restaurants. Use to have some outlets. Closed down now. Overall, not much reason to stop here unless you have a boat.

Good for an overnighter as this is an old campground. Sites are dirt and sand and not very level. Bathrooms and showers clean but old. Did not use Wi-Fi and no cable. Could not fit in 1st site assigned and had to move to another for a tree. Roads are very narrow and full of pot holes. Nice staff. Has some hurticane dammage, typical for area, they are working on it. Unpaved roads and sites, similar to a state park. Dump station. Sites decent size, quite a few permanents. We camped at Santee / Santee Lakes KOA (formerly Santee Lakes Campground) in a Fifth Wheel.

Place is an absolute dump. We arrived with our 3 year old. This place is full of old trailers who stay here full time. Playground is old, rundown and has broken pieces. There is electrical wires hanging from a tree near the "beach playground" with some electrical tape covering it. They advertise a sandy beach which is not accurate. Oh sure there's sand, but it's taken over with weeds, logs and not kept up. If you want to stay here to fish, you may like it. Otherwise save your money!!! With the money this place is collecting, they should put some of it back in to the place. Never, ever, would I recommend this or return! This place doesn't even deserve one star! This park is a fisherman's campground. Many of the campers was permanent and was cluttered. Because of the looks of the park we were concerned about safety, but we had no problem. The sites had ruts and was not level. The staff was friendly and helpful. There was a nice park by the lake that we were able to walk our dogs. We will not stay here again. $38 Water, Elect, Sewer. $34 Water & Electric.

Internet was good, but there were very few other people there to use a portion of the band width.

We checked in after the office closed for the evening so I had no contact with any staff member. I filled out an envelope, then put it and payment in the door slot. For a one night stay while traveling it is an ok place. Many of the travel trailers are set up as semi permanent residences. The campground seems to be used primarily for access to lake fishing and people passing through. There is a fuel stop at the exit on I-95 and a few other adjacent campgrounds. Shopping and restaurants are at the next exit, 3 miles south.

Mosquitoes the size of quarters swarmed us when we went outside. (not hundreds, but thousands) We could not open the door without 10-20 flying in. For this reason, I would not recommend this campground after it has rained. We camped at Santee / Santee Lakes KOA (formerly Santee Lakes Campground) in a Travel Trailer.

There is no reason to stay at this former KOA unless you want to fish on the lake. We asked for a waterfront site and were told "I wouldn't put a nice rig like that in those sites!". This place is rundown and full of old trailers. We were told there was one site left for overnighters so we took it and saw at least 30 other empty sites when we drove through. Roads are narrow, sandy and uneven. Sites are sandy and uneven. No fire rings, no internet except at the office and no cable TV. We couldn't get satellite due to the trees. This rate included a Good Sam discount. There was a newer campground around the corner, but it was more expensive, had no cable and also had no internet except at the office. We camped at Santee / Santee Lakes KOA (formerly Santee Lakes Campground) in a Motorhome.

Older campground with dirt roads and sites. We were told to take specific site only to find another RV there - office didn't know that they weren't leaving for another week? We had to drive around campground to come back down the narrow lane to get in to a different site. Lots of tall old trees make the sites feel even tighter. We had trouble finding our sewer connector - was under leaves and dirt. Bathroom / laundry facility is clean (considering it's in the middle of woods), but the drains of the showers needed attention - one had a pile of dirt or something around the drain. Road noise from I95 is noticeable outdoors, but inside our trailer wasn't bad. Wi-Fi was good. no TV though. Only 30 AMP service. Price of $35 is a Good Sam on a full hook-ups. Too much of a charge for what the campground offers. If really stuck I'd stay here again, but rather find something with better services for less $. We camped at Santee / Santee Lakes KOA (formerly Santee Lakes Campground) in a Fifth Wheel.
