We stayed 2 nights here. Nice flat campground with easy to navigate interior roads. We got in late so the ranger met us the next morning and got us all set up. We camped at Custer State Park - Grace Coolidge Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

A dark site and an open field for star gazing. We also had antelope wander through our campground in the morning.

We stayed in site 11E in a 29 ft 5th wheel. This is a pretty good sized lot with lots of space. But beware this site is really not level. The back is up hill and the front is really low, but we were able to get it level. Be prepared to jack the front of your camper up A LOT!!! Lots of shade, creek runs thru right across the street, really pretty. Had a fire ring with a grill plate built in (really nice one) and picnic table. We camped at Custer State Park - Grace Coolidge Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

I would have given this a 10 except the layout of some of the sites were awkward and small. There were many sites that were ideal in size. The camp hosts were helpful. The Park was very clean with lush green grass. The sites were asphalt and level. We camped at Custer State Park - Grace Coolidge Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

Small campground in Black Hills National Forest. Power at sites with water at the bath house. Tent campground across the street. Nice walking trail and creek running along the back side of the campground. Deer like to bed down in the field nearby at night. Dump station is near the wildlife loop. No playground or camp store, although both are available down the road towards the wildlife loop. Camp store has a laundry room. Stayed two nights, had a wonderful time. There was a campground host present, but only 1-2 other spots taken while we were there. We camped at Custer State Park - Grace Coolidge Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Mt. Rushmore and Crazy Horse are within 20 minutes drive. Wildlife loop is 5 minutes away. Needles highway is 15-20 minutes away. Needles highway has height & width restrictions (12' high x 8' wide), I recommend seeing them all. Leave plenty of time in your schedule, if bison are crossing the road, you may have to stop for a bit. Lots of deer & antelope to be seen.

Very nice, clean and quiet. Well spaced campsites with lots of shade. Must make reservations either online or by phone, no drive ups. Lots of animals (buffalo, deer, etc.). Plus many scenic routes throughout the park. Definitely a great place to stay! We camped at Custer State Park - Grace Coolidge Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

We made on line reservations around February 2011. We chose site 12E from the picture they have on the web site. However, when we arrived we felt the picture was somewhat deceiving. The camp sites were very close together and the campsite we chose was very small. It would have been difficult to back our 24' travel trailer into this small site. The campsite looked much bigger in the picture. We cancelled our reservations and found a wonderful RV Park in the town of Custer. We camped at Custer State Park - Grace Coolidge Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Love this park!!!! This is a free roam park, meaning that you might open your door and see a buffalo staring at you as we did!! The "wildlife Loop" is awesome!! The loop takes anywhere from 30 minutes to an entire day (depending on animal activity). There are buffalo, burro, turkey, deer, badgers, creeks, lakes and hiking trails through the entire 71,000 acres!!!! We will be back! We camped at Custer State Park - Grace Coolidge Campground in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

Located in Custer State Park, sites range from full sun to full shade, tent sites to 51' long sites. Web site has a picture of each site. Site 8E was fully shaded and more than adequate for our 35' fifth wheel. Buffalo, deer and mountain sheep roamed through campground. Bike path and 2 fishing ponds very close. Convenient to activities in park plus Mt. Rushmore, Custer, caves, scenic drives, etc. 1 mile to general store. Small and quiet. Tent sites are across road in heavily wooded area. Sites can be reserved on line. Cost is $15 + $4 for electric. We camped at Custer State Park - Grace Coolidge Campground in a Fifth Wheel.
