Wonderful small park in a beautiful setting in the Black Hills. The owner could not have been nicer, keeps the campground well groomed and covered with flower pots. Access to the Mickelson trail is right behind the campsites. We really liked our site which backed onto the pretty creek. We camped at Creekside Mountain RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Great location for exploring Mount Rushmore and Custer State Park. Lynn's Dakotamart grocery store in Custer had nice produce, roast chickens, good cheese selections, and friendly service. Clean, well lit store.

Nice small park on private property. The property is very well maintained and the owner is delightful. Great location to all the sites, Crazy Horse, Mt Rushmore and Custer state park. Not far to Deadwood and Sturgis. We had a large pull thru and enjoyed her large property walking our dogs. She has a gate at the back of the property to access Michelson trail, nice bonus. We camped at Creekside Mountain RV Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

This is a small park set right on the highway just outside of Hill City, SD. A very crooked little creek runs behind the park. The road and sites are all gravel and grass with a picnic table and full hook ups. Our site could accommodate either two smaller trailers or in our case it was a pull through for our big rig and truck. The owner was most accommodating and keeps the park clean and utilities in good repair. She must have a green thumb, because all of the common areas are landscaped and have a variety of flowers, wind chimes, and yard ornaments. I was particularly pleased to have direct access to the Mickelson Trail. This trail is 109 miles long from the southern part of the Black Hills to the northern parts. I used the trail to walk into town and back daily (a total of 5 miles) and it was both peaceful and beautiful. In addition, the RV park has a small walking area that crosses the creek and is well manicured. The only reason I did not feel I could give this park a 9 rating is because there are no restrooms/showers and there is a bit of road noise. None of that really mattered to us as we are self contained and were out exploring during the day and by the time we came back into the park, the traffic had diminished and noise was not a problem. The location is perfect for exploring Mount Rushmore, Needles Hwy, Keystone, Crazy Horse, and the lovely routes that cover the southern and central areas of the Black Hills. We would definitely stay here again and if you don't need facilities, I would recommend you consider this park. We camped at Creekside Mountain RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

This park is located 2 miles south of Hill City and is very convenient to everything central and south in the Black Hills of South Dakota. You can walk into town on the Mickelson Trail - it is a beautiful, peaceful walk.

This is a small park, centrally located in the south eastern Black Hills. We used it as a base camp for day trips to Custer State Park, Wall Drug, The Badlands National Park, and Mt. Rushmore. The park manager was a very nice lady who lives on site, and is very friendly and helpful. She even came to the site to help guide us into our back-in site. Behind the campground there is a creek and great grassy field that backs onto the Mickelson Trail. Our dogs loved it! We camped at Creekside Mountain RV Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

What a great place! A very small but wonderfully kept and managed RV park, located about 2 miles south of Hill City in the heart of the Black Hills. 15 FHU sites with gravel surfaces that were level enough. No other amenities - no showers or bathhouse, pool, bouncy house, mini golf or waterslide...but the view of the mountains and the adjacent meandering mountain stream were perfect for us. Grounds are immaculately maintained mostly by the owner who is there daily ensuring that everything is watched over. Best sites for trailers are the back-ins along the creek. Our back window overlooks Spring Creek and the hills. Longer rigs and Class A's have pull thru slots in the middle. Park has access to Mickelson Trail; a really fun (if sometimes hilly) Rails-to-Trails bike path that runs through the mountains and forests from Hot Springs to Deadwood. Only negative, and it's not the RV parks fault, is the proximity to US 385, which is THE main thoroughfare through the Black Hills from Custer State Park and Mount Rushmore to Deadwood, Sturgis and Rapid City. This means, in the summer season, a non-stop parade of Harleys, ATV's, log trucks and RV's from sunup to sundown. Road noise does spoil the tranquility of an otherwise perfect location. We camped at Creekside Mountain RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Hill City has a great grocery and liquor store (Krulls). Dining in the Black Hills is mainly a buffalo burger kind of thing. Desperadoes in Hill City was nice enough. Try Marias for serviceable Mexican. Custer State Park is a "must do" for the wildlife scenic loop and wild herds of Bison. Wind Cave NP and Jewel Cave NM are easy day trips as is Mt Rushmore and Crazy Horse. Tons of other outdoor rec in area: boating, kayaking, hiking, horseback riding, scenic drives (Needles hwy!) and ATV-ing.

We absolutely loved our stay with Rita at the Creekside Mountain Resort -in fact, we had made a reservation online to stay a few nights at a State Park, but after driving by that campsite we cancelled our reservation and stayed a few extra nights at Rita's place instead. Really easy access from HWY 385. Level Pull-Thru sites with full hook-ups. Very nice walking path for the dogs that crosses a beautiful creek. And access to the Michelson Trail. My son & I took 2 mile walk into Hill City and had a great time. On the way back, he commented (age 11) that this was his favorite park so far. I was surprised at that because we had just left a KOA with a pool & lots of amenities, but he said that he loved that it was simple and pretty and perfect....and I think his description is right on. You're so close to Custer State Park, Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse Memorial, Wind Cave National Park, and dozens of other great attractions. This country is absolutely beautiful, and Rita's place is the friendliest & the best value around. Thanks, Rita. PS. This campground does not accept credit cards. Cash or Check only. We camped at Creekside Mountain RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

We stayed at Creekside during the last days of September. The sites were easy to get to, were level and spacious. The services were very good IE: the water pressure, electric and sewer hookup. The lady that runs the resort came and visited us the day we arrived and gave us info on the surrounding areas, asked if we needed anything and even came back on our last day and thanked us for staying at her resort. It is a PA park, but the discount was only for one night. The other nights were the regular price of $40.00. We would definitely stay here again. It is very convenient to all the things to see and do in the Black Hills. We camped at Creekside Mountain RV Park in a Motorhome.

Small park along the highway that is a reasonable value and not overpriced like so many in the area. The grounds are well cared for as each site has nice grass between you and the adjacent neighbor. Picked up satellite TV easily. We could walk the dog directly behind the rig along a winding creek. Despite being close to the road, the noise was not an issue except for the occasional noisy motorcycle. The location is well positioned for Black Hills activities. We camped at Creekside Mountain RV Park in a Motorhome.

Best park I've stayed at on this trip from Seattle to North Dakota. It's small and simple. But it's clean and beautiful, and all the utilities work perfectly. The host/owner is a delight and very helpful. Because we have a small trailer, we stayed in the back of the park...other side of the fields and stream. It was quiet and a beautiful setting. We were by ourselves in this part of the park so our dog could run free in the fields. It would be nice to have TV, but the setting is so beautiful that we didn't miss it. The location to town (Hill City), Mt Rushmore, Crazy Horse, and Custer is perfect. We camped at Creekside Mountain RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

This is the only campground we've visited in the area but we are completely satisfied. The amenities are basic but there are a few goodies that come with your stay such as a pass to Mt. Rushmore and passes for the Michelson Trail. That alone saved us over $20. The park is clean, easy to get in and out of and the sites are spacey. Utility hook-ups are in a great location and there is plenty of room to park tow vehicle. A nice little creek runs through the park. There is plenty of room to walk and play with your doggy. We saw deer every night just yards from our trailer. The location of this park is perfect for exploring the local sites. It is just off US-16 so there is some noise but it is quiet at night. The owner, is super nice and supplied us with a local map and great recommendations for site seeing. Firewood is available; just ask. All-in-all, this is the perfect park for us retirees that don't need extra's. If back in the area, this will be the place we stay. No need looking anywhere else. Thanks for a great Week's stay. We camped at Creekside Mountain RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Site 11, a back-in on gravel surrounded by lush grass that is lovely tended by the owner of the campground. Our door faced her vegetable gardens. We had the run of several acres of grass and field, and the George Mickelson Trail is through a gate at the back of the property. The only issues are some road noise and no showers. Passport America rate only good for first night. The location is terrific for all of the Black Hills sights. Rita is very hands-on and helpful. We'd come back for sure. Tips for other Campers:

BrGr61 in Keystone makes great burgers. The laundromat behind the Sonoco station is a little pricey but clean. Don't miss Crazy Horse and Iron Mountain Road. Rt 87 between Keystone and Pringle has great vistas and lots of buffalo on the road. Railroad Museum and CCC Museum in Hill City are worthwhile. Black Hills Tent and Awning in RC can fix any canvas problem. Mineral museum at South Dakota School of Mines was fascinating.

This is a small campground of about 15 units, very well maintained. No credit cards accepted, cash or check only. Sites have FHUs and are level. Good walking paths surround the park and a rails-to-trail hiking and bike path is adjacent to the park. WiFi is excellent. Since the park is next to 385, there is some road noise. We stayed for two weeks to have plenty of time to visit the attractions in the area. We camped at Creekside Mountain RV Park in a Motorhome.

All the attractions: Rushmore Memorial, Crazy Horse, Needles Highway and Hill City steam train are nearby. While at Mt Rushmore, try the TJ vanilla ice cream; made from Thomas Jefferson's own recipe. In the town of Custer is the Purple Palace with a variety of home made pies. Finally there are two brew pubs in Hill City worth a visit.

The campground was very clean and well-kept, but without amenities such as a shower/bathroom or laundry facilities. Fellow campers were friendly, and we felt safe in the campground. Check ahead of time for the annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally! The noise from the highway was deafening, although we cannot fault the camp owner for events outside of his/her control. We were traveling across the country on our way to Quebec, where my wife's family lives. When we made the reservations, we had no idea that this area would be deluged with bikers and the disruptive sounds of very loud motorcycles. If we had not already paid our site fees, we would have canceled and moved on. We camped at Creekside Mountain RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

The rate reflects a passport America Discount. I've been camping for 25 years. I'm sorry to say the road noise was the loudest I've ever experienced. Even running the AC blower in the constant run position in the motor-home did not sufficiently quiet things down. Sleeping was very difficult. The host was nice and friendly. The site was super small even for our 30 foot motor-home. We camped at Creekside Mountain RV Park in a Motorhome.
