This park was a great little hideaway. Great views, plenty of space and nice clean bathrooms and showers. Also great playgrounds for the kids. Water and dump station is convenient. Staff was very pleasant and helpful. We camped at Angostura SRA in a Fifth Wheel.

A very nice campground with lots space at the sites, backing space was tight but doable. The campground was large, clean and well maintained. Host were helpful and friendly. We did have to purchase annual state park passes for the pull vehicle and our motorcycles in the toy hauler which added cost. But there is a lots to see and do in the area so it made it a good value. We camped at Angostura SRA in a Fifth Wheel.

We stayed at Cascade Campground, site 29 on the water, and it was lovely. Nicely maintained and shaded, with electric. We rode our bicycles 10 miles or so along the bike path, so we saw the other campgrounds at Angostura. They all seem to be very similar. We made the mistake of getting all the way to Cascade before learning the water was near the entrance of the park, so had to backtrack to fill up. Our site was mostly level with a nice view of the lake. The water level was VERY high, so there was no beach like you see if you look at Google satellite view. There was plenty of space between sites, and plenty of grassy space to set up our chairs next to the water. We had hoped to fish from the shore (park employees said that would not be a problem, with a permit, of course), but the trees and shrubs prohibited that activity. The bicycle trail is wonderful, recently paved, and gives cyclists excellent access to the shoreline and views. We saw a deer along the way relaxing in the shade of a tree. We arrived at the park on a hot Sunday afternoon, and the entire place was packed as locals flocked to the water to cool off. There are plenty of picnic areas and a few beaches for swimming. (Not right at Cascade campground, however.). Star gazing was excellent! The online reservation system doesn't address the State Park access fee, so we had to pay that for each day ($6/day). I would never ding a park on the actions of other guests (unless it was egregious and willfully ignored), so this comment is just a friendly camper-to-camper one: our neighbors were two families together in side-by-side sites. They stayed up very late with their campfire, chatting and laughing, kids playing and running around. They weren't especially loud or rambunctiousness, and it's nice to see people enjoy their camping experience, but while we had hoped to sleep with open windows and night air, we had to turn on the AC so the noise inside drowned out their laughter and conversation. We camped at Angostura SRA in a Motorhome.

Stayed at Horsehead Site for three days during the week. Site 146 fit our 27 footer very well. The paved bike walking trail runs to the front of the site and along the lake. Fill your water tank at the entrance. There are hydrants by the restrooms in the park. The spaces are nicely spaced. There is also bank fishing and areas to put canoes and kayaks in. We camped at Angostura SRA in a Travel Trailer.

There are several campgrounds at Angostura and we booked last minute so the only sites available were in the Horsehead Camground. We booked site #148E. It was a cold rainy weekend but we still enjoyed walking along the path near the lake and walking down to the lake. Horsehead is a bit higher up so the paths down to the lake end in a small drop off into the water with no beach. The bathrooms were clean but it was a chilly windy weekend and wow the air raced through the bathroom's vented doors! Just going to the bathroom was a cold experience so we decided to check out the bathrooms at Hat Creek instead. Their doors didn't have vents so it was much, much warmer inside. We ended up taking our showers down at Hat Creek. Then on Sunday we noticed everyone was packing up and leaving. We were staying until Tuesday so we looked at the empty lakefront sites and wrote down the numbers. We stoped at the Ranger Station up front and asked if we could switch sites for the next few days. We ended up at site #96 - right on the water! It was so much nicer being right on the water all day. There is a small beach and many swan families with their babies. At night, I could hear several owls talking to each other up in the trees. I have T-Mobile and I didn't have service at all at Horsehead. Then over at Hat Creek I was roaming on AT&T occasionally. My husband has Verizon and he had good service the whole time. We drove into Hot Springs for groceries and to use the laundromat. It is a nice, small town. We camped at Angostura SRA in a Travel Trailer.

We found this gem while looking for a place to shelter off of the highway due to high winds. The park was almost deserted since it was mid-October. There are multiple campgrounds around the lake and I was very impressed with the clean restrooms and how well all of the sites were maintained. Our site had water and electric and was very level. We would definitley stay here again. We camped at Angostura SRA in a Truck Camper.

Electric only sites. Large sites with plenty of room. Fill up water at the dump stations before entering your campground. There are two dump stations so availability of water is easy. We stayed 3 nights in the Cascade campground. 50 amp electric only. Water is available at the fill stations near the dump. Long, shaded, fairly level back in site with a view of the lake. Paved roads throughout with swimming beaches, picnic areas, paved walking/biking paths, a marina, boat launch areas, etc.. Good separation between sites. Strong Verizon 4G and open enough to get satellite. Great place. We camped at Angostura SRA in a Motorhome.

We stayed in small, hilltop Cheyenne campground site 3E. Lake-view, not lakeside, sites. Lots of grass and small trees between very long (50-75') sites, so good privacy and shaded in late afternoon. New, nice, and very clean restrooms with free showers were just across the driveway. Water and a dump station available just across the main road. We were very glad we stayed here to visit Wind Cave NP instead dry camping at Wind Cave's short, cramped, no-hookup, no-shade RV sites. It was also much more modern and less cramped than Custer SP's Sylvan Lake Campground. We would definitely stay here again if visiting the Black Hills. We camped at Angostura SRA in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

We stayed at Chinook Campground in the rec area. Quiet, spacious sites, that was really nice. Some shade. No water or sewer and since the beach area is sandy and muddy, water would have been really nice to have. There are several trees and our spot was shaded, however, the grassy areas are dry and dead, not maintained. The beach in front of our camp site would have been really nice, but it was muddy and weedy all along the shore, the kids would not go out in the water because they got stuck walking into the water. Play toys were really nice, but again, no maint. done on the area itself. Bathrooms were clean with showers. This park has HUGE possibilities, it could be great with some ground maintenance, but it doesn't live up to it's potential. We camped at Angostura SRA in a Travel Trailer.

Price is for site. Must also pay $7.70 per reservation for out of state & have a SD camping sticker. ($6 per day or $28 year) Beautiful campground. Great, spacious spaces. Full power 20/30/50, unfortunately, no water or sewer. We stayed in Cascade park, overlooking the reservoir. Great staff & very friendly, helpful volunteers. Perfect place for family, especially if you are boaters. Very well laid out for boat trailers, & some boats were pulled up to lakefront sites. We camped at Angostura SRA in a Motorhome.
