Redfield City Camping Small (20 spaces) right on lake shore just before you enter town from the west on 212. All sites have elec, cheap at $15/night for 30 amp. Pay by check at post at entrance. No potable water in campground! Be sure to have some onboard. Dump station available. Quiet, even though next to hiway. Paved pads and road with grass all around.
Multi-night stay needs call to city for availability. (20 day max On line reservation City of Redfield website.) First come, first served. Look for orange tag on power post if site is reserved by date. Sharp turn in for most sites. ALL BACK IN. NOT FOR LONG RIGS!
Nice play ground for kids. Bath facilities are pretty clean but a little worn. Showers (1 each, free) actually work and are HOT. Bring shower shoes just in case. Camp Host might not be around but is in spot #1.
Be sure to check ALL registration posts in campground to find window sticker after paying to avoid early morning knock on door. - Cliffy
Aug 2015 - $15.00
Easy access off Hwy #212- a City operated campground- 20 paved and all back-in sites in a circle- with restrooms and playground in the center area. From site #8 we had a nice view of the lake 150 ft away. Campground Host is at site #1 -very friendly- can answer any questions about the town or area. There s some vehicular noise from the highway during the day, but it quiets by night time. Great stop over for a night...... - Michael Fisher
Jun 2014 - $15.00
We loved this park and plan to return next summer. We stayed for almost two months. Friendly owners, great location. There are no paved sites, which is part of the appeal for us. Most spaces are back in but allow lots of space to do so. No laundry facilities onsite but a 24 hour laundromat is on main street just five minutes from camp. - User3749
Jul 2017 - $17.00
What a nice surprise! This state park has lots of trees AND lots of sun. Plenty of room between sites. Due to the area's drought situation, the grass is a little sparse but a really nice campground, and has a good flat walking surface. Restroom/shower area is older but clean. Electric outlets near the sink. We attended a family reunion in Aberdeen so this park is about a 45-minute drive. - Retiredshowmom
Oct 2013 - $16.00
$16 per night was for a 50 amp electric only site. In addition, there is daily parking permit of $4 per person or $6 per vehicle or you can purchase an annual SD state parking pass for $30, which is good for 12 consecutive months from the date of purchase. The campground is managed by the adjacent golf course but they were closed for the season during our stay. The campground is located along the James River in a sparsely populated area with very limited dining and shopping opportunities. Spacing between sites is generous and most sites are level. There are trees in the campground affording shade to some sites while others are out in the open. We received two bars of 4G on our AT&T phone and used it as a Wi-Fi hotspot. - DD Rolling Ranch
Jun 2015 - $15.00
This is our second summer here and we enjoyed it as much this year as last. It improves each year. No laundry facilities on site but Laundromat 5 minutes away. Sites are grass and can be muddy with rain. Small park, only about 10 spaces at present, which we like. - User3749
May 2013 - $15.00
Nice quite camping area. FHU and great place to stay when you are in the area for a few days. It's a couple miles west of 281. The longer you stay the better the rate. Owner is friendly and can set you up with great fishing or hunting locations. - mrnifty
Aug 2013 - $24.00
August 1, 2013: We stopped for a night at Melgaard Park Campground with an RV (40 ft/4 pop outs). We called ahead to reserve and they don’t take reservations but did state that they were rarely ever full. The spots were nice and level, well tended, but a bit tight getting in and out for us - that is the only reason for deducting a star. They have electric hookups only, but the water for flushing and potable water fill-ups as well as the dump station we easily accessible. They have showers and bathrooms on site. The camp ground is part of a very large, beautiful and well groomed public park. We took an early evening stroll and saw a sand volleyball court, tennis courts, a skate park, children's playground, bike paths as well as dog obedience classes and people walking their dogs. We happened to catch a wind symphony performance in the park as well and it was very enjoyable. There are also many mature and beautiful trees throughout. All in all a very beautiful place from what we saw and very easy to get to. - Christina O
Jul 2014 - $20.00
Mixed campsites from pleasant grass with trees to no shade gravel. Two bathhouses, one adequate, one a disaster. Bike trails, fairground activities, and a great kids park close provide entertainment. Would be a good place to stay if the bathrooms were better. - mjtesky
Jun 2014 - $23.00
We arrived after lots of rain so the access roads were muddy and there was standing water on some sites. There are two large paved sites at the south end of the West Hill Campground area. Okay to wash vehicles on the sites. Payment is in the Fairground Office building just north of the Hog & Sheep Barn. Check or Cash only. No threads on the sewer connection, so you'll need a donut or weight. Good spot for an overnight stay. - Good Vibes
Sep 2010 - $15.00
This is an easy, inexpensive place to camp if you're looking for no-frills. Price reflects 50 amp, water, and sewer. We were allowed to choose the site we wanted so we picked an area away from other campers. 20-30-50 amp available, as are W/E sites. Some sites are grass, some are gravel, and they come in various sizes. Interior roads are gravel and wide open. The Fairgrounds can easily be reached without driving through town. Restrooms were basic, and were clean. No playground equipment. We'll be back! - 42lena
Sep 2017 - $35.00
This is a lovely, spacious park, the campground being only one part. There are abundant activities for families with children and young teens. The site was ample in width; I had no tightly packed neighbors. However, the access lane was somewhat narrow, which meant backing in challenged my trailer skills; and the site was somewhat short, forcing my truck to stick out a bit into the lane. Once situated, it was a pleasant camping experience. It would have been nice to have my grandkids with me as I tramped around the park. - Jim Fulton
Apr 2017 - $34.00
this was a matter of convenience as we had personal business to take care of in Aberdeen and the only RV spot with FHU. It would be a great place for family camping with small RVS as getting around the campground with larger units could be interesting when there is a full campground. We had a 41 foot MH and the pull thrus were not long enough. Had to change site to a larger back in so that we could get MH and tow dolly off road way. In talking with friends from Aberdeen this park is VERY busy when school is out because of the Storybook theme park and campground gets very crowded when families come in for a weekend a park along the travel road. Campers have difficulty getting into back in sites. Our feeling is the only time we'd come back is after the park closes in the fall or before it opens in the spring and only for a place to get off the road. the only reason we wanted a FHU was of the cold weather forecast for the several days we needed to be in Aberdeen. - xqzmepleze
Jul 2016 - $25.00
This is a wonderful campground. The campground itself is part of a huge and gorgeous municipal park that contains endless opportunities for family activity. The camping area is manicured to the same high standards as the rest of the park, resulting in super-wide sites with large green lawns for each. Facilities were clean, check-in was friendly, and sites were easy to access. There are two campground areas in different parts of the large park, each with a slightly different feel, but both quite nice. The park itself contains multiple playgrounds, sport courts, acres and acres of well-tended green grass, and a remarkable, even surreal, family attraction called "Storybook Land" which might be described as a tiny little small-town version of Disneyland's Magic Kingdom. We've never seen anything like it, and if you have children, you'll be swept away by how lovingly maintained the place is. In a country full of scruffy city parks, Wylie Park stands apart, and being able to camp right inside it was a family treat. - The Milwaukee Road
Jun 2017 - $28.00
A repeat of my 2011 stay and review impressions. Asphalt CG roads and site, most level, some unfortunate exceptions, with nice spacing with well mowed grass and areas of taller grass and bush between sites. Lots of trees. Bath house had 2 showers with hot water. One small cabin with porch right onto the lake. No site water. Two hard to get to faucets in the middle of CG loops. Dump with potable water at entry. The CG and park is on Mina Lake's shores. The other section for day use has a boat ramp, a paved berailed rampway to a pier with benches for handicaped, two nice playgrounds, picnic areas, swimming sand beach, and gravel paved nature trails. Good job South Dakota! - 210jem
May 2011 - $24.00
About the neatest and nicest campgrounds I ever stayed at. Has a tarmac driveway and mostly level sites in perfect surface condition. The grass is neatly mowed. It is located right by a beautiful lake, with a nice playground for kids. Has a very new, clean and neat bathhouse. Has a genial, talkative host who has been here as host for several years. The dump is beyond the entry. No site water but two facets located in the middle of the loops. It's not easily gotten to from the loop road. Potable water hose can be found by the waste dump. Personally, I don't trust any source so close to a dump. I've seen too many careless people contaminate dump areas. So, other than refilling water tanks, I really like this park and decrease it to a nine only for that reason. - 210jem
Sep 2007 - $19.00
It is a great park, all the views you can see the lake. Friendly host, and the park is very clean. - excel14
