Stayed here before and came and spent 3 weeks again while visiting friends. The park has all drive thru gravel spots. We stayed in a 42' 5th wheel and you can stay connected if you wish. Bathroom & Laundry are clean and up to date. WI-fi is not bad, at least it works. The park is right in town, so there is a grocery store, two restaurants and a great bakery in walking distance. Always a nice breeze there. Only 45 min from the beach and Mexico. Will stay here when ever in Rio Hondo. - Piperflyer 235

This is a great RV park by the airport, somewhat out in the country - 531 sites. The roads are nice & wide and the spots have some space to them. There are many activities available. You pick & choose which ones suit you. We looked at 2 other Encore places. One where the roads are too narrow for our RV and another which has 1200 sites and where the cost is double. Pick the one that works the best for you. - JMCherry
Apr 2017 - $12.00
The rate is for a three month stay offered to Thousand Trails members and does not include electric. The electric rate was $.12 a KWH. All easy back-in sites that are slanted toward the paved road. We were able to easily level our 40 motorhome while keeping all wheels on the ground. The large concrete slab at every site is for the car/truck parking and the RV is parked on the grass. The streets are wide and paved. Most of the streets are slightly angled so heavy rains drain down the middle to large storm sewer drains. The sites are generous and excellent utilities conveniently located at the rear. Great cable TV is included free of charge. Our Verizon broadband service was 4 bars/4G. Plenty of in-season activities. Have a really nice RC car track, horseshoes, shuffle board, very nice well maintained pool. The park is almost exclusively planted with tall palm trees, so there in minimal shade but good for satellite TV reception. The park maintenance is excellent. The location is rural yet only about 4 miles to downtown Harlingen and a Super-Walmart. The only thing that stops this park from being a 10 is there are not picnic tables and no on-site fishing. - RalphA
Apr 2016 - $12.00
On this trip we stayed for 4 months. We have stayed here twice on extended stays and found the park to be comfortable with friendly staff and residents. Tropic Winds caters to long term renters but does not exclude short term guests. All sites are "back in" and spacious. We have not been disappointed here.
In the fall/winter there are organized activities and at the other times activities are guest generated. - texyankee9

If you like a nice quiet place with friendly people this is your place. Close to shopping and sites. Older park but clean and well maintained. Friendly husband and wife manager. Would definitely go back. - BEAR8898
Jan 2013 - $40.00
Small, older park outside of town. Park looks old, but well maintained. Friendly, helpful park manager. Many 'winter Texans' in residence but also had several spots available for the short-term traveler (like us). Good location to drive to the area attractions like Brownsville or the gulf coast. Not far to get to shopping and dining. Residents all very friendly and included us in their pot luck dinner. TV hook up available if you work it out with the cable company. Free WiFi worked well for us. Stayed in a fifth wheel for a week. Would go back. - Middletown WildCat

Sites were extremely close! Neighbors do not except newcomers. Staff Ok.Prices good. Not a friendly place to winter. - 1bill
Jan 2012 - $11.00
Unless you are a single hardcore fisherperson, this is not your park. Interior roads are deteriorating. Sites are grass and gravel and not level. 20 miles to most shopping. Management is either inept or incompetent. The manager modifies the rules for her favorites and holds everyone else to them. Lots of gossip and cliques. The owners don't seem to care about more than superficial improvements to the campground - RedSoloCup
Jan 2011 - $12.00
Stayed at this park from January 10 through March 1. Rate reflects monthly rate plus electricity. This is a friendly RV park for "Winter Texans." In a rural area out side of the congestion of the valley traffic, but close enough to enjoy all of the Valley for the winter season. Park manager is very friendly and takes very good care of park guests. Sites are level but grass, no table at sites. This is a no frills RV Park on the Arroyo Colorado. Has fishing piers and boat ramp for those that like to fish. Driving distance to Port Isabel, South Padre Island, Brownsville. Must go into San Benito, Harlingen or Rio Hondo for groceries etc. - Bethro

Dec 2015 - $11.00
This is the best kept secret in Texas. Very small and basic park on the Arroyo Colorado. If you want rest and relaxation this is the place. Very quiet, almost boring. The only excitement is watching Ruth Ann running around taking care of the place. And what a nice place it is. Beautiful Rec room, private dock, and lots of birds. - Deck & Margot

Nice staff, good fishing on the Aroyo Colorado river. Quiet. Great campers to have interaction with. - jack andeer
Dec 2010 - $20.00
We enjoyed this campground and the people so much we paid for this coming fall (yearly rates are great + electric). We will return. I think this is going to be our second home every winter. Our stay was December 2010 until March 2011. - mikebocko

Big sites, very clean and maintained, great staff, excellent location, only draw back is NO dog park. Have talked to management and they agree is needed and have good location for it. Highly recommend this park. We will come back next year . - Hwjohnson

We were just passing thru and arrived late so they put us in a side-line space. It wad easy to get into after dark and paved. There was a small pool but didn't have time to use it. Met a few really nice folks in the clubhouse before leaving the next morning. - James Lee Davis

Dec 2018 - $52.00
Made advance reservation for 4 nights, 48.00 per night plus 4.00 per day resort fee. (We left after our one night deposit.) Arrived Saturday midday and learned the office is closed weekends and the address is for the park model residence area. We called the on duty mgmt and they had no record of our reservation. This is an Encore park and their website is managed by a central operations apparently. We were told our area was a couple blocks away and given a gate code and told to pick any open site. We booked a lake view and found park models in those sites but many other sites open. We selected a site and backed into the grass site. I had to hunt for the water spiggot in the ground and had to dig the grass away from the sewer. The electric was fine. Road noise from highway 77 was loud and constant. I travel full time and this was a short stop visiting friends. We are full time travelers. For us this park was horrible. I would never recommend this Encore park, all the parks in Harlingen seem to be Encore managed, we looked at them and were not impressed. I'm sure Sunshine RV works for some snow birds but not us. As always take the sharp websites and photos with a grain of salt. We've been burned twice now by Encore parks and have learned our lesson. - jromo
Nov 2016 - $12.00
Reserved a lot in July for a three month stay from Nov - Feb. When we got there was shown a 50' space for our 45' RV, transport trailer and a car. We had told them when we reserved the space what were bringing and that the space would accomodate us and then upon arriving they said we could rent another space to put our transport on for an extra $45 per month. Not happy at all. - River otter
Apr 2016 - $11.00
After making the reservation on-line and using the PA rate, we were all set for a week at the resort. On checking-in, they said they would give us a "first time customer deal" for only $99 per week. They then took the PA 50% discount so we ended up paying only $11 per night. The campground had cleared out of their "Winter Texans" and we got a spot in the new section by the lake. The 50 amp CB was weak and kept tripping, so I plugged into the next site and left a message at the office. The next morning, a maintenance person showed up and changed the CB. The only downside to this location at the resort is it is close to the highway and there is a lot of road noise. - Good Vibes

We stayed for 30 days. Lots of activities here at the park, the people were all very friendly. The park is somewhat dated, pool and hot tub where awesome. Our power went off a few times, there seemed to be a problem with one of the circuit breakers that looked after a few sites. Took them a few days to fix the problem. Glad we had an automatic generator in our rig, so when the power went off, the generator came on automatically to run our air conditioners to keep Ben (our dog) cool. Other than the multiple problems with the sewer we had a great time! - Kevin and Barb 1
Dec 2017 - $10.00
Rate reflects monthly special for first time visitor, electricity is additional. As stated by other reviewers, it's a dated park with narrow streets and sites. Online photos represent only about a dozen sites in the park. The number one attribute of the park is the friendliness of the people in the park. They have a volunteer corps that is so welcoming. Same can't be said of the office staff. Amenities are of average quality. Highway noise is limited as is any outside noise in comparison to many RV parks which are typically sandwiched in undesirable real estate along highways. Several dog runs for your furry friend. Fire ants are a problem as sites are grass only or grass with cement patio area. Many of the permanent "mobile" homes are 40 year old trailers which have had additions added to them so they can be pretty or pretty unsightly. Several look like relics and should demolished. Not likely to return. - Sasquatchewan
Mar 2017 - $17.00
We stayed at Fun-N-Sun because friends were there and had recommended it. There are a LOT of activities, so if you're bored it's your own fault. It's not our normal cup of tea, as we prefer the outdoors and good motorcycle roads, but after spending the winter getting ready to full-time and selling the house, we were SO done with the cold. This resort was a good way to relax and get used to the slower pace that retirement and full-timing requires, and the warmth was mostly welcome. It did get a bit muggy earlier than normal this year (we heard), so March was 80+ almost every day, and sometimes pushing 90s. Everyone we encountered was super-friendly, from the staff to the guests to the people who live there year-round. You can't ask for a nicer bunch to hang around with. Our site was selected after we spent the first night in the overflow area (we arrived after the office had closed, and the site they had assigned was WAY too tight), which was nice and had full hookups and a lawn. When we found the site we'd fit in, we took up most of a back-to-back site, and were able to pull through since the other side was empty (and stayed that way). The site was dirt and grass, and of course there were ants everywhere, so we couldn't put down our mat - we tried that, it rained, and when we picked it up one corner was swarming with them! Yikes! We were told they were fire ants, so we were careful to avoid their hills after that. The park has live music every Friday during the "season", and one of the largest dance floors in Texas. We had a great time, and hope to return next winter for a couple weeks. - Denise and Glenn
