Jul 2017 - $1.00
I had to work in the Amarillo area for several months. I stayed at Country Sunset RV for about 2 months. Steve and his wife were great. Very nice and well kept park. The free laundry and wifi were a plus. Although the trains were close, the park is pretty quiet. I would stay here in again with no hesitation. Well worth the drive to stay in a nice and safe environment with good neighbors. Thanks again Steve for all the help and a good stay. Lance B. - LanceB
Mar 2017 - $25.00
The park is exactly as previously described. It's a no frills park on gravel, nice and level with well-maintained full hookup. Trains nearby. Large dog area. Free Laundry. Friendly owners, couldn't be more helpful. - fd536
Oct 2016 - $25.00
If not for the one review on RV Park Reviews, we would not have found this place. The owner is very nice. The park is super clean and carefully kept. Wi-Fi is excellent. The laundry is free! No bathrooms, so don't expect luxury. But for a one night stay after boondocking we were happy to be here. The campground is basically an open parking lot next to an RV storage place. Don't let that put you off! Some might be bothered by the trains, but that's what this part of the country is all about. - User2152

Large Pull-thru's and full hookups with 30/50 amp electricity. Specializing in overnight sites for the weary I-40 cross-country traveler. Convenience store is located just across the street. Easy access to I-40. Open year-round ! First come, first serve (no reservations). We use this park each time going South and again back North. Recommend. - NanaK
Oct 2018 - $14.00
About 3/4 of the residents are permanents but each night there seemed to be 5-7 open sites for the transients. All pull-thru. A bit run down but fine for a few nights. Low water pressure but good electricity. Outside the city by a few miles. We would stay here again. - Wandering
Sep 2018 - $14.00
This place is run by remote control, office closed and pay is by putting an envelope with cash or check in. No reservation, first come, first gets a spot. Because it is cheap it gets full after 3PM. Get early in the day to get a spot. Convenient location to visit Amarillo. Many permanent Campers, some with many dogs. Cheap and good for one night stop. - summerdude

Nov 2018 - $36.00
This is a terrific state park that caters to campers. camp sites vary from 50 Amp + water with covered tables and restrooms with running water to primitive an in between. Great fro hiking or just looking. some sites are good for 40' MH with extra space. - John Zumwalt
Nov 2018 - $22.00
We really enjoyed this state park! We stayed at the Mesquite campground. Definitely need to hike around this park. The only causes of potential concern... 1. Some sites aren't level (we had to put our front wheels on blocks so that they wouldn't be dangling). 2. No sewer at the sites. 3. No Verizon service down in the canyon. We'll stop here again though, those were minor inconveniences compared to the rest of the campground! Don't let the 2 mile 10% grade going down into the canyon scare you - it was pretty easy (even with a couple of hairpin turns). - Wandering With Us
Oct 2018 - $24.00
Palo Duro Canyon is supposed to be the second largest canyon in the United States. The park and campgrounds are on the floor of the canyon, so it's quite a different experience from visiting the Grand Canyon. We enjoyed our stay very much. Our campground (Hackberry) was very nice, with level gravel sites in the woods, pretty well separated from others. Most sites are back in, but there are some pull through. We saw some big rigs. There's lots to do in the park, from hiking to horseback riding. Bathrooms and showers were okay, typical for a state park. Definitely worth a visit. - Thriller

Jun 2018 - $35.00
I understand the office had a major fire and it was going through a rebuild. The attendant was working from a laptop on a folding table, but friendly and helpful. The park was also going through a rebuild it looked like upgraded electric and sewer. About a third of the sites where useable. We stayed 3 nights with no problems, would like to stop by next year and see how things progress. The park is located just outside the Palo Duro State Park and has zip lines on site. No Permanents on site with beautiful sun rise and sun sets. - bnlazy
Apr 2015 - $1.00
We pulled through this place because it's on the rim of Palo Duro Canyon. Only one RV was there in a Huge flat, level lot on the canyon rim. Office was locked with no way to contact anyone even though it was a Wednesday afternoon. As I said, no one was camped there either. Access to bathrooms/showers was blocked by litter and garbage, and some sort of tower under construction, probably for a zip-line. This place appears to be out of business as a campground. - Lost
Mar 2014 - $15.00
We wound up at this campground after being evacuated from Palo Duro Canyon State Park because of an uncontained grass fire. The owners were very friendly and helpful and kept the office open late to accommodate us refugees from the State Park. It was nine at night but a young man offered to guide us to our site and make sure we got hooked up all right. I did not find the park to be the horror the previous poster claimed. I did not use the restrooms, and I did not see garbage piled up. We did see some broken sewer caps. The office building is run down, but we felt it more important that we were treated kindly and were not taken advantage of in a difficult situation. Bottom line is that the place is in need of some upgrades and maintenance, but it was quiet, and we would not hesitate to stay here again. The grounds were easy to maneuver in our 37' fifth wheel, and we had a great Verizon cell signal. We got a discounted fee I assume because of the late arrival and short stay. - bgbassman

We stayed for three nights to see the area. Nice campground with long level sites. Train whistle seemed louder some nights. - lce3
Sep 2018 - $45.00
Just an overnight stay. Good KOA with mostly level sites, great folk in the office, easy ingress/egress. I am a repeat camper here and I will continue coming back. - olddeadhead
Sep 2018 - $45.00
This is a KOA Journey park...but I don't know why. The staff is great, the store well stocked and this is the place for you if you like train horns all night long. This park used to be gravel but has turned to mostly dusty dirt. One of the MANY Panhandle storms went through and you could barely see two rows for all the dust in the air. It also is close to the airport and even closer to a very busy railroad track. Just about the time I would doze off another train or two would go buy. Very sleepless night. I stay here only when all other Amarillo RV parks are full. - OpaS

Dec 2018 - $35.00
This is an older RV Campground, but in good shape and clean. The staff was great at check-in. I needed a washer for my water supply hose and they just gave me one. Some airport noise. Close to the Big Texan. There's a limo service that will pick you up, no charge. - Ralph Pinney
Nov 2018 - $35.00
Smaller, older park. PROS: Helpful staff. Long sites, including several with private pet runs. Short drive to the famous Big Texan restaurant. Roads are somewhat narrow but no problems getting our 65-foot big rig in/out following directions. CONS: Lots of road noise being right by the highway. We stopped for one night during a horrible storm so didn't see/use much of the park at all and can't comment further. We will probably stop here again for a night on our way back across the country. - a_elkins
Jul 2018 - $35.00
This park is declining, but it is still a good overnight stop. It has FHU sites that are level and easy to access. It is close to I-40 and there is some road noise, but nothing that bothered us. The office staff was friendly both on the phone and at check-in. There is no pool or wi-fi. Our AT&T hotspot worked great. We travel this way fairly frequently and will likely stay here again. - codgette

Sep 2018 - $39.00
Stayed for a week, park is fine, well run, polite staff. Cable didn't work - returned the box they use and stuck with antenna. They did fix the cable. Lost water for a few hours, it was fixed. I would stay again, we had higher expectations and were a little disappointed. Went to Big Tex, once is enough. - retirednrving
Sep 2018 - $33.00
Our go-to park when visiting Amarillo. Check in is always easy, staff is always friendly, and there is escort to site. Nice, level pull-through. All utilities worked well. This park has been bought by The Big Texan and they are in the process of changing the name. Always enjoy the free limo ride to dinner at The Big Texan. - CanDo
Aug 2018 - $33.00
We have stayed here many times and have learned that during any holiday season you MUST have reservations as they most assuredly sell out. They are 100% pull through with (mostly) easy egress. One thing most reviewers don't mention is that they have free coffee and donuts in the office from 8:00 to 9:30 every day. As we pass through Amarillo multiple times a year, this is our preferred resting spot. - OpaS
