We camped here in a lake front premium campsite in Poplar Point on Memorial Day weekend by making on-line reservations 165 days prior to arriving. Site #57 (back-in) was extremely unlevel side-to-side and was barely long enough to accommodate our 28 ft trailer. The asphalt campsite parking pad sharply dropped off on the lake side. The sewer connection was uphill! Really don't understand how any of this is considered PREMIUM! These premium sites are at a strange angle to the road so be ready to do some creative backing up! This park is next to the Texas Lime Company, which operates two limestone kilns and pulverizes limestone. The noise from this plant over the holiday weekend NEVER stopped! We had gritty dust on everything! It is a real shame this dusty mess is sooooo close to the Park. Nice small lake and quiet campground. We only saw one squirrel the entire 4-day weekend. No AT&T service and spotty TPWD Wi-Fi. We camped at Cleburne State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Town of Cleburne is 13 miles away where you will find HEB, Krogers, Braum's, Starbucks, Cotton Patch and of course, Wal-Mart. We camped here and traveled to Waxahachie Scarborough Renaissance Festival, which was less than an hour drive.

Beautiful fall colors! We will be back. Our site required some effort to level, but that's OK. Had plenty of TV signal but AT&T cell signal was very weak. Lots of hiking trails, and the lake is nice, although we didn't catch any fish. Didn't see any deer but we had a red fox walk thru our site. We camped at Cleburne State Park in a Travel Trailer.

We stayed here for several days and had a great visit. Beautiful location and a nice place for kids. Our site was private although not very level and the staff was supper friendly. Some sites are at awkward angles making backing in a challenge. The nearest grocery store is Albertson's, 15 miles away, so be sure to pack what you need. We camped at Cleburne State Park in a Travel Trailer.

We had a fantastic time at Cleburne State Park. Our site was huge, near the lake and the view was fantastic. Could have spent a week there but sadly we were only there for the weekend. We were close to the public showers and they very clean and well maintained. There is a nice park for the kids, a large meeting room that is available to rent for large groups. And they have covered shelters to rent. Our campsite was well shaded as it looks like most of them are. Not all sites back up to the lake. We enjoyed a gorgeous sunset and sunrise. Staff was supper friendly probably the most friendly we have encountered at a state park. Best part it is only about 15 miles from our house. I'm honestly not sure of the cost of our site. We camped at Cleburne State Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

We stayed in site 58 in Poplar point. Probably one of the worst sites to level, however had we planned better we could have straddled the concrete stop to back up more and that would have leveled us out a lot more. The sites were spacious and tree covered. We had spotty antenna signal the first night but Saturday it was fine. My mom had no complaints about the bathrooms. The park host was helpful when we arrived but the park staff weren't exactly helpful in choosing a spot. We said we wanted to be closer to the lake, and we actually moved from the sites down by the creek to poplar point, but they didn't tell us we were getting the most unlevel site there. Other state park employees are far more helpful in picking sites and have even pulled out books with campsite details but they did not offer any assistance. Cell phone (att) service was nearly non-existent. We camped at Cleburne State Park in a Travel Trailer.

This is a good state park and is well maintained. However, I limit my rating as several of the Premium sites are not good. We camped in site 57 which was a scenic site on the water but the pad was on such an angle we could not level the motorhome. Finally went to Wal-Mart and bought 6 pavers to put under the rear jacks in order to level (the rear tires were about 6" off the ground on both sides). Site 58 across from us was the same as far as unlevel. In addition the sewer connection was some distance from the pad and uphill ??? Not sure who laid this campground out but it was not a 'camper'. WiFi in the bath house didn't work most of the time and when it did it was a weak signal. Phone reception was poor and trees prevented sat reception. North Creek campground (no sewer) was better.... I would not recommend this park nor will I stay here again. We camped at Cleburne State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Texas State Parks do not allow you to reserve a specific site so it's important to come a day early if you want a specific site.

Stayed here for a week. Full hookups all taken on a busy weekend. Stayed in Keyhole site #30. No problem getting sat reception. Easy check-in as a drive up with no reservations. Site was w/e only. Good placement of services. Sewer site services placed in easy to access. Will stay here again. Stayed in Cleburne SP in a motorhome. We camped at Cleburne State Park in a Motorhome.

We stayed here to attend the Armed Forces Bowl in Fort Worth. Our campsite was incredible! It backed right up to the lake, and was huge. We are going to make a return trip in warmer weather. The full hookups were easily accessible and appeared to be recently updated. We camped at Cleburne State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Rate is for site with water and electricity. Other camping loops with full hookups are also available. Sites are nicely spaced; however, some have a strange layout. Site 29 in Keystone Loop has the picnic table and fire ring much closer to the pad of site 30 than to site 29 plus it is fairly unlevel. Good antennae TV reception, weak cell reception and no Wi-Fi. Park staff are friendly, but Texas has the worst reservation system of any of the 40+ states in which we have RV'ed and it took us over 25 minutes to get checked in. We camped at Cleburne State Park in a Travel Trailer.

We had purchased the Texas State Park annual pass for $70, which gave us four 1/2 price camping nights. Without the pass, there is an additional day use fee of between $4 and $8 per person per day which makes the camping rates at the state parks too high. Our site #34 was a back-in FHU 30 amp site in a valley area. Many trees with some low hanging branches to watch out for. No satellite reception and very poor cell reception. Some sites have a lake view. This park is quite far from the highway and rather secluded, which makes it a quiet area. However, we were there Easter weekend so all sites were full. Also, we had some noisy neighbors with barking dogs they allowed to roam off leash. Nice clean bathrooms. Some hiking trails. We camped at Cleburne State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Very quiet campground. We stayed in the north creek area 30 amps with sewer; the 50 amp with sewer sites were not very level. Staff was very helpful. Restrooms were clean. Nice hiking trails and a nice small lake. We will stay here again. We camped at Cleburne State Park in a Motorhome.

This is a nice state park that appears to have been updated recently. We stayed in a site with a lake view and had beautiful sunsets each night. We could walk right down to the lake from our site. It's rocky and hilly so you have to be careful but it is a clear path. The full hook-ups worked well. Our site was fairly level but we noticed sites further down the row tended to require a lot of leveling, especially for the larger trailers. Currently, there is a burn ban which includes a ban on charcoal grills. We forgot our small bottle of propane for our portable grill and had to go into Cleburne to buy more. Cleburne is about 18 miles away. We tried to buy propane earlier in the day in nearby Glen Rose as we had visited Fossil Rim, but it was sold out everywhere we stopped. With the burn ban, everyone has resorted to using the propane grills. There is no store at this park so make sure you have all supplies before you arrive. The park is 6 miles off the main road and Cleburne is the nearest town with major retailers. This park is remote so be prepared. The lake was nice for fishing though the water level is low due to the drought. This park is a good base location if you want to visit Fossil Rim or Dinosaur Valley National Park in Glen Rose. We will definitely visit this park again. We camped at Cleburne State Park in a Travel Trailer.

The only reason I did not give this park a 10 is that some of the sites are not level. Again this is a great state park In Texas we will be back. We camped at Cleburne State Park in a Travel Trailer.
