I've posted a review of this campground previously. This update is intended to rebut the several reviews posted here that are unfairly critical of Padre Balli Park. Note that I have no interests in this, other than the fact that we've stayed here multiple times, and I want to set the record straight. One poster complained that the park staff tried to gouge them due to the size of their trailer. Total garbage; the nightly rate is $50 for the newer campsites, and $25/night for the older, 30Amp sites. Staff was following prococol; no "gouging" going on, and if these people had done their homework they would have known what to expect beforehand - and make their own decisions. People - you can't come to a full hookup campground on the Texas Gulf Coast waterfront, and expect to do it at bargain-basement prices - doesn't matter how long your trailer is. The sites are uber-spacious, clean, and have plenty of space between sites. We were there last in Nov 2019 in our motorhome, and we were totally satisfied with the experience, again, as we have been previously. We camped at Padre Balli Park in a Motorhome.

We arrived on Friday, May 31, 2019 at 1:30 PM. The charge was $50 per night and we planned to stay four nights so the bill came to $200. We used a debit card to settle the bill and they charged us $3.90 for not having cash. The person at the desk said the fee for using plastic would have been higher if we had used a credit card. We were told there is a $12 pass required to drive on the beach so we opted to stay off of the beach. We were given two pages of rules. One page was to be taped to inside of our truck windshield. The other page was to be taped to the inside of the window in our trailer as close to the entry door as possible. We were assigned to back-in campsite #10. We were handed a map with the route to our campsite highlighted in pink. We were given a little slip of paper containing the four-digit code that would unlock the laundry/shower and the entry gate which is closed at 8:00 PM nightly. Following the pink marker, we made our way to site #10 and backed in. The concrete and asphalt pad was very spacious and long enough to easily contain our truck and 38' trailer with room to spare. The pad was also perfectly level. There was a wooden picnic table where someone had left a cheap steak knife for future campers. We got set up and began camping which we define as "eat until you get tired then sleep until you get hungry." Bring cash! There is an additional charge for using plastic. We camped at Padre Balli Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Being from So. TX and having stayed around the area, this is about as good as it gets. The new section is well spaced out and clean. Restrooms are so so and there is NO wifi. BUT you can access the beach easily and have fun and sun! We camped at Padre Balli Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Bring plenty of mosquito repellent! North is Mustang island and Port A and there are beach entrances along the way. South is Padre Island National Park entrance and it isn't very far. You can drive down the beach several miles in 2 wheel drive but after that you'll need 4 wheel drive and there can be a lot of sea weed and debri. Explore and have fun!

We have a 40' Fifth Wheel, and apparently this was their clue to squeeze money from us. We were planning on boondocking on the beach, but had an issue with our fridge. This park was recommended by a friend and we were told we could park over by the dunes for $25/night - they used to own this trailer and camped there before. When I told the staff that's what we wanted to do, they insisted that we couldn't stay in that spot and had to move to the more expensive spot. When I tried to question this, they basically said if I didn't like their rules, there were other parks nearby. Lesson learned, I should have taken their advice and moved on. On the plus side, the sites are large, level and hookups are nice. On the neg side, their customer service and price for what you get is horrible. We camped at Padre Balli Park in a Fifth Wheel.

We stayed in the new section with 50 amp full hook ups. Our spot was a back in near the entrance to the beach. A lot of traffic. A minutes walk to the beach and the Pier. The new laundry facility had one washer and one dryer which were very old. We camped at Padre Balli Park in a Travel Trailer.

Sites are spacious and level. We were in the "new section". The old section is an asphalt parking lot. However, it is a bit closer to the pier. Our AT&T signal was good enough for hotspot and streaming. At night you can hear the surf. We had 15 or 20 TV channels via OTA antenna. It had recently rained, and some sites had standby water near them.... although ours was fine. I'd stay here again. We camped at Padre Balli Park in a Travel Trailer.

We have been enjoying Padre Bali Park for many years. The old section is really bad but so close to the beach, it's been ok. but now the new section has double in price at $50/night. there are no amenities that increase the value. the new section just has smooth, large pads which is nice but "the norm" at most state and county parks that charge much less. I hope the County will read this and think about offering Senior discounts. We camped at Padre Balli Park in a Motorhome.

Several reviewers have posted reviews of this county park and some mentioned a future expansion in the plans. We have been here and camped in the older, 30A-only campsites for many years, and those sites are woefully inadequate for our current 50A all-electric motorhome, so we were watching this expansion project closely. The new section is now open, with fresh asphalt-surfaced roads and concrete pads, as well as adjoining concrete slabs with picnic table. The sites were more than long enough for our motorhome and toad. The park is about 200yds from the Gulf of Mexico beach and Bob Hall fishing pier. The park itself provides full hookups, and was pretty empty when we were there, since the opening of the new section has not been publicized. We camped at Padre Balli Park in a Motorhome.

The one word to describe this rv camp is shabby. It is quite old and looks every day of it. The "Park" is an asphalt parking lot covered with potholes, some of which will rattle your teeth even when driving slowly. the shelters provide very little shade, and there are no charcoal grills to be found. Bathhouse is shabby, too. There is a serious spruce-up requirement here. There is a new section which just opened up. It has new concrete pads and electric/water hookups, 50-amp service, and sewer service. Each site has a new pick nick table, but no shelter of any kind, and no charcoal grill in sight. There is also a new bathhouse which I did not inspect, but it looks nice from the outside. This is the area which was once used for tenting. The rates are double those of the original park @ $50.00 per night. Both sections are about 100 yards from the Gulf of Mexico. We camped at Padre Balli Park in a Tent Trailer.

While this is an older state park, the value makes up for everything. Its not super glamorous but they are working on it. The current section is $25 a night. You call in advance and they take your name. No deposit. Unfortunately that does lead to some full bookings when they are not full. I can attest that, out of the several stays we did last year, the park employees were 100% on top of calling back and following up with the waiting list. Even if you can't book all your days, things change and we've never had to leave. Someone ends up canceling or leaving early. The employees are very quick at fixing anything on the camp sites and the restrooms and the sites are routinely clean. They even have a laundry room that has always worked. The current sites are close but not too bad. When the park is full, it can be a little difficult to reach the back spots due to fellow campers spreading out a little too far on the edges but the park employees do correct that when they are there. Even though the campers are close, there is plenty of parking near your camper and each site can generally take 2 vehicles. It works well with our toy hauler. When we unload our kayak trailer, there's still plenty of room for our kayaks to stay close. The current camp sites are old - 30 amp and old pavement. I wish they would calm down the 2 speed bumps heading in but hey its right on the beach. Its nothing that is going to damage the bottom of your rig - just a bit bumpy. I'd rather have these pull thru spots than pay $50, back in and not be able to get my camper out or have my kayaks or truck next to the camper. So pick your poison. Restrooms aren't pretty but they work and are clean and routinely do not smell. Great value and easy sites. Low stress. We camped at Padre Balli Park in a Fifth Wheel.

This is an older park that has the spaces very close together. The value is very good for the location on Padre Island very close to the beach. All there is between you and the beach is the sand dunes, about a hundred yards. This is a county park and the county is in the process of building a new addition to the park with the sites much further apart. However, their plan for the new section is double the price of what you pay now. The staff tells me that the county intends to keep the old section open at a lesser price. We camped at Padre Balli Park in a Travel Trailer.

I was scheduled to camp at Mustang Island, but they called me the day of and said their power was out due to a storm. They recommended Padre Balli.

I did not realize that the sites were only 30 amp, so that was a bummer. Also, the weather was 30 MPH winds, so that made our beach days miserable. (obviously not the camps fault)

It seems that this park has fallen into disrepair and they are doing a tax increase to try and bring it back. There are some overgrown parking lots that possible used to be campsites. there is a vacant building that possibly used to be the office?

The office is clean and nice and on stilts, so be prepared for a long ramp or stairs.

The beach is nice, clean, and has picnic table, but the sand is pretty compact. There is a restaurant and pier. It costs to go out on the pier.

The campsites are broken asphalt with two sites kissing. Hookups in the middle with two tables. One for you, one for your neighbor. The ranger just told us to choose which side we wanted to face and pull in that way. Pull through sites.

The dunes were very tall. You cannot see or walk over them. There is a path on the far side of the campground or you can walk up by the office to get to the beach. The dunes do help cut back on the wind.

The shower houses were cinder block construction, but it is starting to crumble. The showers have been lined with that plastic wall stuff and wood slats on the floors, but you can see black mold in places. The showers were hot and high pressure. Great after a cold beach day. We camped at Padre Balli Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

The Catholic church is 1/4 mile from sites. Open air, but indoor Masses on weekdays.

The other shopping/restaurants were at least 1 mile down. You can walk the beach 1 mile and then cut inland and be right at the Valero gas station which has a nice selection of basics and a redox.

Basically a parking lot with hookups (no sewer, dump station on lot). You can't see the water but the big dunes really cut down on the wind, which blows a lot. Very nice area on the beach with tables and partial shade, huge pier also there. Staff very helpful and friendly. Spaces can get a little tight if there are several big rigs near you.
