We have stayed here many times. This state Park is really nice for a few days getaway. Heavily wooded, lots of wild life. Cell signal (att)was so,so. OTA tv was fair. But lots to do,fishing, hiking, bike, and such. Yes we will go back to this park again. Caution though there are some site that are quite small for longer trailers or motor homes. We camped at Purtis Creek State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

It is a nice little park and has easy trails. We took our elderly collie and Samoyed with us and walked the dam walk. They enjoyed that. We then took our other collie and Samoyed on the other trails. It is quiet, there is privacy and we will be visiting again. We did go to Athens for a couple items. It was not a long trip. If you need to shop for any items, Athens is not that far away. We camped at Purtis Creek State Park in a Travel Trailer.

There is plenty of shade in this state park. The pads are raised asphalt. The majority of the pads in the park are level and shaded. There is plenty of dense vegetation between the sites so you don't notice a neighbor. Many OTA channels from Dallas, but could not pick up ABC. Verizon signal good. The park is a bit remote, so plan to arrive in daylight. The park staff was very pleasant and welcoming. We camped at Purtis Creek State Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

We enjoyed a 3 night stay at this park that is located about an hour from Dallas. The sites are very private with plenty of space between you and other campers. There is a nice fishing lake that seemed to be pretty popular. Each site has a picnic table and fire ring as well as a level pad to pitch a tent as well. The pad for the trailers are paved and pretty level, although we noticed several that tended to slope significantly from front to back. We stayed at site 31 and had a slight slope. Large two hole dump site with water connections is in the park. While the park is well maintained, we found the showers to be a little worn down but functional and relatively clean as compared to typical state park shower facilities. There are park hosts that patrol the grounds along with the park rangers so watch out for public drinking or noise as they tend to crack down on the partying, which is a good thing in my opinion. We camped at Purtis Creek State Park in a Travel Trailer.

We had a great time at this park! It was quiet and very peaceful. I was a little apprehensive about backing into a spot since this was our first outing in our new-to-us motorhome but it went smooth as silk. Our site had a nice little trail that lead down to the lake. I can't speak about every site in the park but the way ours was laid out, it felt very private due to the screening trees and undergrowth between sites. Our picnic table was about 15 or 20 yards away in a little clearing next to the firepit. The edge of our site on the side with the path leading to the picnic table/firepit area had an asphalt edge 3 or 4 feet wide but erosion at the edge makes the footing uncertain and a little difficult to navigate due to a 3 or 4 inch drop off - walking back and forth to the table/firepit area at night makes good lighting a must. We camped at Purtis Creek State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Make sure you bring your supplies (food, firewood, etc.) with you. The town has little to offer but larger towns with grocery stores and WalMart are about 20 or 30 minutes away.

Very Nice "small" State park. Trails were nice and well marked. Sites were level with Water and Electric (30 amp only) with lots of shade. Dump station only had two slots, so could get very crowded. No more canoe/kayak rentals due to budget constraints. Make sure to get firewood in town none available at park. We camped at Purtis Creek State Park in a Motorhome.

This is a smaller Texas State Park on a lake that is reported to have a variety of fish to include Black Bass, catfish, perch and so forth. The RV sites are spaced nicely to offer some sense of privacy with trees and bushes offering additional privacy. The heavy recent rains have made the hiking trails muddy, but the few we walked offered a nice hike. The Park has a Park Police Officer who patrols the area and seems to keep a lid on noise. The nearest towns are small and only offer a bit more than gas and sodas. The Park is often full during nice weather and always during First Monday Canton. We camped at Purtis Creek State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

This is a "No-Wake" small lake that limits the number of boats on the lake to about 50. We saw many canoes and paddle boats. The Park has at least three (3) fishing piers and many easy access places to fish from the shore. The Park has 4-5 separate hiking trails that loop various areas of the Park.

We had a rough start to our visit here. We were told that the office hours were from 8:00AM to 5:00PM. We arrived at 4:45 and were told that the lobby closed at 4:30 and they would not check us in, but we could go pick any site that was not occupied and to come back before 9:00 the next morning to check in. We drove in and picked site #20 which was empty and had no tag to indicate it was taken. It was tricky to get our 34 foot trailer into the site but we managed to do it and it had a nice view of the lake. We set up camp and enjoyed our first evening there. The next morning I went to pay and was told we would have to move to another site because a "local man" had already paid for that site for the whole week! What a disappointment since we had already set everything up! So we had to load up and move to site 47, which is nice but had no lake view. To make matters worse, the "local man" didn't show up to actually use his site until several days later!

In spite of all that, it is a nice park with sites that are well spaced, shady, and have vegetation to provide separation and privacy from adjacent sites. Some sites are level, while others require about 3 inches of leveling blocks. Our first site had good Verizon cell phone reception but poor TV reception, while the second site had good TV reception but poor cell phone reception. Water and electricity work well, although we did have a brief outage during a storm. They have several miles of hiking trails, but they were too muddy for us to make it very far during our stay. Pets and tents are allowed. We camped at Purtis Creek State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Excellent Texas State Park. We were in back-in site #13. It looked small from the road, but easily accommodated my 37' 5th wheel and still had room to park my truck. Very private and great shade. Water pressure and quality good. Good 30A electric. Central dump station is tight, no sewer at sites. Nice, easy hiking trails. We would stay here again. We camped at Purtis Creek State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

This park has gigantic campsites with picnic table, fire pit, and level tent area. All sites have mature trees with ample shade. There were paddle boat and canoe rentals, walking trails that lead to the lake and fishing pier. We enjoyed seeing numerous deer, raccoons, armadillo, squirrels, and vultures. We did choose a campsite that seemed to have all the ants. There is a walk in beach area to swim but the water smelled odd. Over all it was a great experience and we would return. We camped at Purtis Creek State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Great Park to hang out in and enjoy nature. There were 2 eagles in the park for the winter. Great fishing and trophy bass. Most helpful park hosts. Unfortunately no water due to freeze, but not a detraction. We camped at Purtis Creek State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Small state park. Quiet when we stayed there. Excellent shaded sites, though they can be a little tight. They have pictures of all of the sites, along with dimensions at the gate - makes it easier selecting a site. Lots of raccoons in the area, so be careful with food. We camped at Purtis Creek State Park in a Motorhome.
