This is your basic gravel parking lot RV park. Easy in and out. We parked in the overflow on grass, but we had electric and water. No cable at those sights. Bathrooms and showers were very clean. Staff was friendly. Convenient to town and the area sights. We camped at MacMillen RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Friendly owners, reasonably level with easy access. Many long term residents. Best park in town. Would stay again. The reason for the visit was Ft. Davis. Very Interesting early army fort. Downtown was a surprise for such a small out of the way place with more shops and restaurants than expected. We camped at MacMillen RV Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

We arrived on a cold and windy day after a long drive. We had a poor experience at a different local park earlier, so we were not in the best of moods. The park was easy to find. Signage was good. Access to the park was good. Parameter roads are gravel and were in good condition. Check in was quick and informative and pleasant. This is a cash or check only establishment. We were allowed to choose our site. We chose 23 as it would allow our door to be on the leeward side out of the wind. There is nothing special about this park except it delivers what it offers. We had a level pull through with utilities that worked as promised. We didn't extend our slides as we didn't want to spend time setting up. We just wanted a shower, a bite to eat and a good nights sleep. We normally use our own shower but in this case we decided to use the park's facilities. The wash house had three rooms each with a toilet, sink and shower. They were clean, well appointed and worked just fine. There are no restaurants or services within walking distance. Our only complaint with this park are the cockle burrs. They seem to be everywhere and they really hurt our dogs paws. I don't know of the park can remedy this problem though. We paid $30.00 cash per night and feel we received good value. We would return if in the area. We camped at MacMillen RV Park in a Motorhome.

There is nothing special about this park. We had stayed here before nearly a year ago and nothing has really changed. There are still cockle burrs everywhere so they clearly have made no effort to control them so pet owners beware. The cable quality is good but there are not many channels and the wi-fi is pretty good. The manager was quite friendly and let me walk the available spots to choose the one I wanted. We camped at MacMillen RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Fort Davis Historic Site, McDonald Observatory, if you have the time Davis Mountains Scenic Loop drive. Dine at The Drug store for some very good home cooked style eating and excellent deserts.

This park was just fine for a couple of nights to allow us to see the sights in the area. The owners were very friendly and helpful in deciding where to visit while here. The WiFi was excellent and cable reception good as well. The only drawback is the lack of grassy area to walk the dogs. There were lots of stickers so we were constantly picking them off the dogs' legs.

As was previously mentioned on other reviews, it was a little hard to find with our iPhone GPS. Some written directions on the website would be helpful. We camped at MacMillen RV Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Try to pick a storm free day to go to the McDonald Observatory. We went up early and paid, had lunch, shopped the gift shop, watched the video. A huge storm came through and knocked out the power and the telescopes so we did not get to see the actual observatory except from the outside. We were refunded our money and the staff was very apologetic. Bummer as this was on my bucket list of places to see, especially in Texas!

Manager was very nice. Cash or check only. Wifi was great. Did not use the laundry. Close to town. All utilities worked fine. Sites are typical West Texas desert, long gravel pull-thrus. Every site has a covered picnic table, very nice. We camped at MacMillen RV Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Be forewarned that just about all the restaurants in town are closed on Saturdays. The Porch is open, it seemed to be the only one around. It was very good. Also, it is cooler here than in El Paso. It is at 5,000' elevation.

Good checkin. Cash or check only, park about 1/3 full for the Easter weekend. So no problems about being too close. Sites are adequate for what you need. Level, good water pressure, electricity, and cable. No issues with any. Views are nice from the park. Close to town. Walk or bike there in minutes on the paved path across the street. The only problem we encountered was the laundry facilities. Washer day dinner did not spin dry well and dryer was .25 per 5 min and ineffective. We had to hang our laundry out at the campsite. Also, stickers are an issue for dogs. But that is hard too control here in the country. I would stay here again. We camped at MacMillen RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

This is about as good as it is going to get in Fort Davis. The sites are gravel, with plenty of room to pull through. The restrooms, showers and laundry are adequate. Most of the rest of the park is a work in progress. The patios and picnic tables at each site are in need of work. The "office" is rarely open; it is staffed by a man who comes across more gruff than he really is. WiFi was good; highway noise was minimal except for the constant flow of motorcycles - particularly on weekends. No amenities here; move on if you're seeking a clubhouse, pool, playground, dog run, social hour, etc. On the other hand, Fort Davis is the highest town (in altitude) in Texas, making it a pleasant stop, even in the heat of summer. We camped at MacMillen RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

See the Fort Davis National Historic Site, the nearby McDonald Observatory, the Chihuahuan Desert Center. Visit several good restaurants in this small town. NOTE: Many are closed on Saturday. Groceries are in greater supply in nearby Alpine.

First of all, if you have an in-dash navigation system, like we have, you might want to print out the directions on the web site. We came from San Antonio and as we got off onto Texas 17, we were about 20 miles from Fort Davis, when our GPS said that we had arrived. We hadn't since it was nothing but an empty field. Check in was easy and as noted in other reviews, the man running the place is a little gruff, but he was polite and easy going. He also gave us a run down of the place to see. After checking in and paying, he told us to take one of the two way roads, and to find a site we liked. There was no information about the park provided. Everything easy to locate and easy to connect. There was a covered picnic table at most of the sites. The wi-fi was good, most of the time, make sure you get the password, when you check in. Cable TV is provided and worked well, as did our satellite TV. AT&T cell service was only 1 or 2 bars and some times we got no signal. We would stay here again. We camped at MacMillen RV Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Fort Davis, McDonald Observatory, The Davis Mountains Scenic Route, Chihuahuan Desert Nature Center, The Marfa Lights Viewing Center is about a 30 minute drive. Fort Davis is a small town, with only one grocery store, that we saw. It is fairly well stocked, as far as grocery stores go. If you think you will need anything, besides groceries, you better stop someplace, before you get here.

Were do I begin , this camp ground is a stay if there is nothing else available. The main problem is the campground host , He is so rude , obnoxious ,with no information about the campground. They had WIFI , we had to find another camper to find out the pass code to log into it. They don't give out any paper with the information. ( WIFI info , TV line up & they have very few channels , mostly fussy )They apparently don't like dogs here, well the host didn't. They only take cash or check , and the receipt they give you doesn't even have their business name on it , it's like a generic receipt,(are these people even running a legit business ?)I would not suggest staying here EVER, We camped at MacMillen RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

This campground was a great place to stay while exploring Fort Davis. The camphost was friendly and helpful, and takes your money after you get set up. (Cash or check only). The sites were long and level, and each site had a covered picnic table. Utilities worked as they should, and we had a clear shot of the sky for satellite. Fort Davis (the fort itself) is an interesting visit, and the observatory is a must see. We also enjoyed lunch and ice cream at the hotel/drugstore in town. We would definitely stay here again if in the area. We camped at MacMillen RV Park in a Motorhome.

Access is excellent with gravel roads and sites. The sewer connection had been sawed off with a PVC cap and there were no threads. Good grouping of utilities. There is a nice concrete patio with picnic table and lattice cover. The water valve leaked, but the water pressure was at least 50 psi. The host camper is what I'd call a "character." Friendly and helpful, but opinionated. Lots of dust and wind, but hey, this is West Texas. We camped at MacMillen RV Park in a Motorhome.

McDonald Observatory is 16 miles away and we came to Fort Davis to do their Twilight & Star Party Programs. $15/pp covers both and we loved both programs. Observatory is at 6800' with no lights nearby so moon/star viewing is awesome and we used 50x & 400x telescopes to view moon/Jupiter and star clusters.

I made a reservation with my needs as I am in a small camper with no facilities. I did not get what I asked for. I was lucky to get the last space available, any later and I would have had no camping spot. There was little to no effort to make amends for the inconvenience. The manager was gruff and belligerent. He will tell you what his job is and that is all you will get out of him. There are few picnic tables, they have limited cable but the picture is good and clear, the Wi-Fi was pretty stable, and the bathrooms appeared clean. That this is the most decent park in Fort Davis does not say much for the other parks. We camped at MacMillen RV Park in a Travel Trailer.
