Mar 2018 - $30.00
Nice, clean and roomy spot. Site surface was gravel. Sunny and open exposures. Stayed the night on the way to Texas. - Kenjr
Nov 2015 - $30.00
This park is really a home to men and families working on the oil line with one space for people traveling through. The owner is very kind the space is very large, hook ups easy but not sure I would come back. Train is nearby and the place is really quiet by 9:00 but by 5:30 there is a lot of noise as the men leave for the day. - Bev&Dick
Aug 2015 - $30.00
New park about 12 miles west of Abilene that is still being developed. Had to shut down engine while being registered because of road dust. Site plenty long enough but sewer connection placed so that you have to park on first half of pad. No trees or grass. Bar ditches at entry and exit of site that will be mud holes if it ever rains. Just a flat, barren, gravel place with hookups. - countrycoach99

Jun 2018 - $30.00
The owners are so friendly and helpful. Many new long level pull-thrus have been added since our last stay. Only had planes flying over 3 days, never at night. Some train and road noise outside but not inside coach with air running in 103 heat. 50 amp was good but you do need a lift for your sewer hose as connection is high. Only negative is no WiFi. Owners were out every day keeping the park clean and grading roads after severe storm came through. We definitely recommend this park if you are in the area. - mrk
Aug 2017 - $30.00
The owner was very friendly. Good spaces - not much shade. Problems encountered were the park lies right in the pathway of Dyess Air Force Base flight pattern and it is really loud as the planes are not very far above ground at takeoff. We also encountered trouble cleaning our lines as the sewer drains are too high and we had to keep picking up the line to drain. - DRBurns
Sep 2015 - $28.00
A basic RV park with good access from I-20. Fuel close by. Mostly filled with pipeline workers who are there long term. Residents were quiet and considerate. W/E/S worked well. Interior roads have washed a bit, but sites were solid and level as well as shaded. Highway noise was minimal, but Train noise was noticeable. Honestly, if you don't like train noise, then anywhere along I-20 is probably not for you. Staff was very friendly and helpful. A good solid park that meets your needs. - BounderPounder

Nov 2017 - $35.00
This is a nice campground. There are no trees but the sites are laid out in easy in and out fashion (most are pull through). The campground is close to Outdoor Recreation and the camper storage area. All hookups worked fine. The Wifi is excellent. The ladies bathroom had 2 stalls and two large shower stalls with locker space. The men's room had one stall and one urinal with the same large shower area. The cable tv worked fine. The laundry room was sufficient. The campground is fairly new. Our charcoal grill had not even been used. There was parking space at the campsite to fit our tow vehicle. The $35 fee is high for a military campground (most are $20). - Melodycthomas
Apr 2017 - $35.00
Dyess FamCamp is overpriced for the area, for the campground, for the space, and for what it offers. Many much better, much nicer military Famcamps are way less money.
This is basically a parking lot, with short sites, spaced closely together. The back in sites are not even numbered so that those arriving with reservations know which site to park in! Sites are short, and pretty close to neighbors considering the vacant base land all around.
There are many homesteaders, and they occupy many of the pull thrus. Move the homesteaders to the back ins, and let those passing through have the pull thru sites.
The bathrooms don't even have hand soap at the sinks. The information board on the outside of the laundry/shower facility has no information on it. The folder with "base maps" inside the laundry room has no maps in it. We have stayed in Famcamps across the nation, and even at $25 per night this one would still be overpriced. Truly, this Famcamp is a disgrace in the overall system.
The only thing saving this campground financially and for occupancy appears to be the long term homesteaders paying by the month. - AC7880
Oct 2016 - $35.00
We went to the campground coming in off the road and there were no available sites. The next day we went back and got a site and the next morning we were told we had to leave because our site was assigned to someone else. We were not told this the day before. It appears that Dyess FamCamp is for homesteaders or people living on base who choose to stay in the campground instead of living in base housing or off base. Don't bother to stop here hoping to get a place to stay for the night or multiple nights because the homesteaders have it locked up. - Debby W

Jun 2017 - $35.00
Very friendly workers. We were literally parked along one end of the paved parking lot with 50 amps & water. We stayed 2 nites & there was a 3 nite max. The rate was $35/nite which was high to us, but we are not VFW MEMBERS anywhere. Members I'm sure must get a discount. It was very safe we felt, but there are cars coming & going until about 11:30 pm. - slawrence
Dec 2016 - $19.00
We are staying on there newly opened part. It just opened up 2 weeks ago. Brand new laundry and bathrooms with showers. Large sites large, level and gravel. The staff is very friendly and helpful. I would stay here again if I am in the area. My daily rate was based on the weekly rate. - rynosback
May 2016 - $25.00
Five electric and water hookups. Dump station provided. No shade. Site surface is a concrete pad. We have friends in the area and it is a good place to park for a few days. - Trvl4Evr

Jan 2019 - $46.00
This is a very nice park, 'conveniently' located at the junction of I-20 and US 277. Getting there East bound quite easy, just exit I-20 at exit 282 and proceed to the KOA. If you are West bound, you still exit at 282, but go back East to the CG. However, leaving is a different story. The park is on a one-way East bound road, tucked in the I-20/US277 interchange. When you leave, you go East, then turn South, turn left under US277, then left to get on US277. From there you can go east or west on I-20. We were headed West and the whole trip was 3 miles from exit 282 and back. We arrived just before sunset and the sun shinning through the leafless mature mesquite trees was very warming. Most of the pull-thru sites are reverse entry, and vary in length. Some are quite shallow. We were in the longer sites. The interior roads are dirt, but quite smooth, except right in front of our site (#42) which had some major potholes. The sites are also dirt, but very level. We had a concrete patio w/ table. The utilities are a little forward in the site, but still convenient. The sewer, which we did not need, was at ground level and hard to find. The water pressure was a little weak, but the voltage was strong. Check in was pleasant and easy. We were presented with a cable box to connect to the TV. I needed to de-winterize the MH and did not want to mess around with digging into the TV wiring, so we declined. There was adequate antenna TV. The strongest WiFi signal came from the Motel 6 next door, but in the morning the KOA was stronger. It appeared that most of the residents were permanent workers; I did not see another motorhome. I had not been to this park in several years, but I was quite satisfied and will return if the opportunity arises. - Martini
Jul 2018 - $41.00
Nice park for overnight stay. Seemed to be a large number of spaces in use by "full-timers." Closeness of sites made things seem a little crowded. Camp grounds are on south side of Interstate 20. If traveling west bound, be sure to call ahead to get directions as to which exit to take. Also expect some, but not bad, I20 traffic noise. - CG1314
Jun 2018 - $41.00
Our experience was less than expected. The manager put me on hold for an unusually long time. I really think when they answer the phone, "It's a great day at KOA - can you hold?" then put you on hold before you answer... well, it's not really that great. When he did finally answer, I told him we were "7 miles away and wondering if you have a site that can accommodate our length (they advertise "90' pull-throughs - they have ONE), and if you can hold it for 10 minutes and we'll be right there". He put me on hold again to "check availabilty"... then came back and said, "We have one site that will work," and insisted he would not hold it unless we went through the whole check-in process over the phone. When we got there, we STILL had to check in. The site was marginally level, but plenty long enough for our length. So were a dozen other sites around us. The cable had only a male end and you have to use a cable box. Just as I finished setting up, a gentleman pulled up to our site and told me he was just assigned this site, too. Yep, the manager did it. The other camper had dealt with the manager before - he wasn't surprised. The boy needs some Customer Service training. A typical gravel lot with trees. I wouldn't come back on a bet. - DreamCaptn

Feb 2018 - $15.00
Strange campground, but with W/E sites for $15/night, it was worth a stay just to run the electric heater and the furnace on a windy, very cold February night. And the cottonwood and oak trees around the edges of the campground helped reduce the constant north wind. The sites were fairly widely spaced, but each power post/faucet had two sides--one on gravel and one on grass/weeds. We picked the grass side of our site because it was a little more level, but we could still put the truck on the downhill side because we weren't unhooking the trailer. This would probably be a great park for fall or spring camping with its two campgrounds, a lake for fishing and boating, a marina, a golf course, and a general store. There was some noise from the nearby highway and there were very few OTA TV stations. But for us, it worked well as a brief stop on a long, cold Texas plains night even though the price was just raised from $10 to $15/night on Jan. 1, 2018. - fanrgs
Nov 2016 - $1.00
This place is a few miles off the interstate and signs are few and far between however the GPS coordinates were spot on. Roads and sites are gravel. Sites are just kind of scattered around in amongst the trees. You find power (30 & 50 amp) and water that are close to one of the wide spots, park and hook up! Most areas are level and range in size from small to huge. No problem finding an open spot for satellite and Verizon 4G was strong. Very quiet sparsley populated with campers. Great place for an overnight stop to get away from the interstate noise. - Pjoe
Apr 2016 - $10.00
Nice park located below the dam of lake. Trees and shade available. Dump station located near exit of park. Power pedestal located next to site. We camped during motorcycle rally and cook-off. - TnL Thomas

Feb 2019 - $40.00
Level, well spaced sites, mixture of seasonal and transient campers. Outdoor amenities - bocce ball, horseshoes, pool, bbq, washer toss, dog park, playground, horse stables...two bath and laundry plus office store with essentials. Very welcoming and friendly staff. Park is well maintained. Cable and good wifi. We would be glad to stay here again. - Jitime40
Feb 2019 - $39.00
Nice park with easy on/off I-20. Although on the interstate, road noise was not bad. Reservation procedure very easy and check-in friendly and fast. Long level gravel site with easily accessible utilities and many, clear cable channels. Small concrete patio with table. Very nice site separation. Wi-fi good although we noticed the antenna was next to our site. Restrooms very nice. The only knock is scenery or rather the lack thereof, but that will improve in time as the planted trees are new and haven't had time to grow much. Of course, being February, didn't try the pool but did notice they have a pickleball court. Many restaurants and shopping in the area. We really liked this park and think its the best choice in Abilene. We will happily stay again. - starwind
Dec 2018 - $45.00
Last minute change of plans had us looking for an alternative space. This park is right on I-20 easy to get to. Note: If westbound on interstate, your gps will not find this park. Use exit 286C, cross over interstate and turn back East as Stamford is a one-way going East. Park is large, sites are concrete pad and patio with gravel roads. All hookups worked well including cable and wifi. Will stay here again. - Bojangles

Oct 2018 - $12.00
We were with a group in the Wagon Circle and it was perfect for us as we could all visit in the center grassy area and had our group supper in the hall, which is very well equipped. Our group moved on but we had to stay to take care of a medical emergency. It was a good place to be stuck, a pleasant environment and plenty of nature trails to walk our two dogs. It was fun to see families and friends enjoying all the park amenities. Plus, the rangers could not have been more accommodating, directing us to reputable medical care, helping us figure out the cheapest way to stay, even checking to make sure our air conditioner was running for our dogs when we were gone to the hospital all day. They have wifi, which is rare in a state park, but it is nearly useless. Of the three bathhouses, the one at Brushy Trail has the largest and cleanest showers. The water is hot and the pressure is good. - janci
Sep 2018 - $25.00
typical of most Texas state parks. nicely spaced with utilities where you need them. nice and quiet. second stay here and will probably return again. - rockhill
Aug 2018 - $18.00
We often stop at Abilene State Park when headed through west Texas and did so last night. It is alway clean, well care for, and the personnel are friendly and helpful. Brushy Trail section is woodsy and home to deer and other wildlife. Sites are asphalt and fairly level, and are water and 50 amp electric only. There is a dump and trash station conveniently located. If you are a walker or biker, there are some hiking trails; in addition, the park has a lovely swimming pool. The price is right at $18 per night. We have stayed in several of the sites over the years in Brushy Trail, but last night we were in #58. We stayed here in a 40' Fifth Wheel. - the Fishers

Jun 2015 - $30.00
In town right off the interstate. Not in a very nice/safe looking neighborhood. Some pull thru sites but they are very short. Check in was not ideal. When you enter, there is a very run down house that looks like it should be condemned. The office is a little further in. When we arrived it was closed and it said to check in at a certain site number or to call a phone number. The site numbers were not visible so it was impossible to locate the site they referred to. By the looks of the mostly permanent trailers, I would not want to risk knocking on the wrong door. I called the number and the lady came right over.
We checked into a site right in front of the office. When we plugged our EMS/ surge protector it read high voltage! Needless to say we could not stay. They were very nice about refunding our money.
Most of the sites were occupied with what appeared to be permanent residents or maybe rentals working in the oilfields.
Unless you are really desperate I would recommend passing Sweetwater on by. - jvkATX
Jul 2014 - $10.00
Sites are scattered over the campgound, but dispersed so you are not close. First electric we tried had open ground, but the one on the other side of the pole was good. Managed by the city and had a very friendly host on site. Great little park for an over night or a few days. We will come back. - Orlan
