Enjoyable State Park a little Southwest of Waco, TX. All sites are FHU and there are only about 20 of them in the park. Sites are incredibly well spaced out and there are a couple Campground Hosts that keep things in order. We were in space #3 - a back-in space that provided some afternoon shade in the TX summer. The hiking trails are all pretty short and take you to some interesting landmarks. There is also a nice paved road at the far end of the park that we used for a nice 10 mile (RT) bike ride through a prairie and along a stream. Visitor Center at Ranger Station is quite educational. We camped at Mother Neff State Park in a Motorhome.

These sites are incredible for a state park: full hookups with a level concrete pad, new picnic tables and fire rings. The back-in sites (which we had) are more scenic than the pull-throughs, but even the pull throughs are nice. (Number 12 across from us has trees on both sides.) The trails are well-kept, like most Texas State Parks. Lots of dragonflies and crickets. It's a CCC park and the first official state park in Texas. It's July, so it's really, really hot and best to explore early morning or late evening. Great Verizon coverage and DirecTV satellite. The water pressure is the best we've had at ANY park, much less a state park. We camped at Mother Neff State Park in a Motorhome.

Great State Park. They do not mow the grass due to keeping it as natural as possible and in a true Prairie state. Lots of trails and not long. Some sites could be a little short, but very clean and well kept sites. Restrooms and showers are like Royalty in a state park. Fans in the Showers keep it comfortable even on a 100 degree day. Lots of wildlife. Pretty easy to back in and there are a few pull thrus. I stayed 4 days and hated to leave. The town of Moody is about 7 miles away and they have a Family Dollar for quick stuff and a Gas Station. I will be back, great getaway and a great park and the friendliest Park Rangers. We camped at Mother Neff State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

I suggest you make sure you have your groceries and such before you go in. There is a lot to see on a 400 acre park. They also have activities such as showing the fire equipment from the local volunteer fire departments and how they could manage a fire in or near the park. Playground for kids and adults. Just a lot of fun

This park is 40 min from the Silos [Magnolia Market], it's great for Nature lovers, has restrooms that were spotless and beautiful fields of flowers. The downside is it's not a park if you have dogs. There is absolutely no place for them to do their business. Wildflowers etc. are right up to the road and the sides of your campsite. Yes, you do have a gravel area at your campsite with a picnic table and fire pit but I don't want my dogs to do their business where I would eat, the only other area that's open is the small playground and that also isn't sanitary for your kids to play where dogs have done their business. Being Texas and a nature area they have poisonous snakes, wolf spiders, ticks, scorpions and I'm sure a lot more bugs! We are from AZ so we are use to snakes etc but this park was a little too much nature for us. Also, you close to Ft Hood and they practice bombing into the evening and Space X has a rocket test site down the road. We got to experience a rocket test one evening! No launch just the firing of the rocket. The ground was shaking and you could see the steam and reflections of the flames against the clouds. We camped at Mother Neff State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Silos [Magnolia Market] are 40 min away, go on a Monday it's less crowded. Jimmy Don's is right down the road towards Crawford about 10 min away. Texas Ranger museum is 45 min away and Mammoth National Museum is about 45 min away. Waco Tours is the best, we went on their tour the last time we were here but didn't go this time. They also have a River tour available.

Very nice park. Awesome campground rebuilt in 2015. Huge site. Lots of hiking. CCC built trails and a look out tower. When we were there the wildflowers were in full bloom. Beautiful surrounding the ranger station. We heard noises! All fun stuff. One was a nearby rocket test that lasted a few minutes. WOW! The other were our soldiers practicing artillery at Fort Hood. Neither were a bad thing. We loved this place. We camped at Mother Neff State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Park flooded and redone a few years ago. Well spaced and spacious sites with full hookups. Hiking trails are fun and easy and there are CCC structures to see on the trails. Read Mother Neff's history in the new visitor center. Definitely would return! We camped at Mother Neff State Park in a Travel Trailer.

The crown jewel of Texas State Parks. Sites have been redone and are super. Wide, long, level concrete sites with great separation from your neighbor with a big sitting graveled sitting area with table and fire ring. Full utilities which is unusual for a Texas state park. The new TPWD website lets you choose your site when making reservations. There are only 20 sites, so reserve early. Friendly easy check in. Site fee does not include daily per person entrance fees. We have the annual park pass, so entrance fees are waived. Many hiking trails and a couple bird blinds. A great place to relax for a few days. Bring what you need, no stores nearby. Hopefully we can return for a long stay. The south end of the park is closed for now due to flood damage. We camped at Mother Neff State Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

A gorgeous, small, well laid out Texas park. Fairly new with only 20 full hookup sites, there truly is not a bad site in the campground. Sites are pretty level and all are long enough for the biggest rigs. One ding is you don't get to reserve a specific site, so when you arrive you are given a list of available sites to pick from. There are pictures and data about the sites, but without seeing them in person, you really don't know what you're getting. Since they are all great sites, not a big deal unless you want some shade or sun. There were people checking in behind us so we couldn't do a drive through before choosing. We got lucky with 13 which was huge with plenty of afternoon shade. We loved this park and will be back when in the area. Nice short hiking trails, but they get pretty muddy with rain, so we walked the roads instead. One surprise to us was how close the campground was to a regularly used road, so there is some road noise, but it's not bad at all. Good AT&T data coverage, decent Verizon, and our site had clear views for satellite reception. We camped at Mother Neff State Park in a Motorhome.

Newly rebuilt 3-years ago, this is the jewel of the Texas State Park system. There are only 20 sites but all of them have concrete pads, full-hookups and lovely crushed granite picnic areas at each campsite. The pull-throughs are very long and even the back-ins are nice and roomy. The HQ and bath/shower rooms are brand new and super clean. All in all a great State Park in the Texas system. We do have a couple complaints, it's not perfect. First, they love to brag about their prairie grass and that it's not mowed. It looks great - but it's full of stickers (and chiggers). Keep your pets out of the grass or they'll be instantly covered in hard to remove stickers. Unfortunately there is no real grass - no place you can walk your pet without the sticker issue. Also, there are not a lot of things to do around the area, but that's OK it's fun to relax. There isn't any wifi, but ATT Cell service is good and Verizon is OK, too. We camped at Mother Neff State Park in a Motorhome.

We have stayed at Mother Neff twice now. The first time was July 2016. The second time April 2018. This is not the fault of the park but the first time it was hot as Hades and the second time a cold front came in and we had to go to town to find warm clothing! Yes, we hope the third time is the charm. But it is still a wonderful park. The sites are very nice, concrete and full hookups. It is a small park so it is nice and quiet. We love the trails especially the trail to the tower. The rangers are top notch and quite helpful. Mother Neff was the first Texas State Park. It is not that far from Waco which has some nice sights. We camped at Mother Neff State Park in a Travel Trailer.

This is a beautifully maintained park that was renovated about three years ago; the buildings all look new. There are not many sites, only 20. Some are pull-through, but all are very spacious and meticulously maintained. The little courtyard by our site was made of crushed granite - it was raked prior to our arrival, a very nice touch. We did some hiking and thoroughly enjoyed the trails - shady and well-maintained. Literature states max rig size of 40 - this is wrong, 45' can easily fit in all slots. We camped at Mother Neff State Park in a Motorhome.

We were very impressed with this newly renovated park and campground. We reserved on line for a Friday and Saturday night stay. On arrival we were shown the available sites and they have a notebook of pictures of each site, which helped us pick site #7. They also gave a welcome packet and the boy scouts sell firewood by the stick (not the bundle) so you can pick your 12 pieces for $5.00. The bathrooms were the cleanest I've seen at a state park. There are lots of trails, a playground, a cave and some of the original CCC structures. We camped at Mother Neff State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

This was our first experience in a Texas State Park camping area and we were extremely impressed. By reserving a campsite 5 weeks in advance, we camped here for 2 nights in a travel trailer. Upon arriving, we selected a pull-thru that had no shade. The concrete pad was very long and there was plenty of room for our tow vehicle. This December weekend all but 3 campsites were occupied, but it was very quiet the entire weekend. The Full-Hook-up sites are very nice, nearly brand new and spacious with ample space between campsites that allowed for privacy. Very level concrete pads for RVs with aluminum picnic tables and a metal campfire ring. A security gate, with code access, is closed at 10pm, but campers are provided the code so they can come and go. Both pull-thru and back-in campsites are available. Tents must use this area due to the tent campsites are flood damaged. The Park Ranger called us two days prior to arriving to advise us that the county had instituted a burn ban and that no campfires were permitted. We arrived at the park after the park office was closed, so we were able to finalize our payment early the next morning. Park staff was exceptionally helpful and friendly. The only recommendation we made to the Park Rangers would to improve the signage throughout the park. We camped at Mother Neff State Park in a Travel Trailer.

This campground is now basically brand new (3 yrs old) since rebuilding after a flood in 2007. Beautifully groomed campsites and nice clean bathrooms.
