Hospitality is never unwelcome. If you can't find a place to stay and you need to be close by the Bastrop area, be grateful for space at the inn. We certainly were. The owners of this park do live on the property, are accommodating, friendly and have invested in a clean modern laundry, rec room, bathroom/showers and on-site propane (especially important in the winter months). There is RV storage space and personal storage available on premises for reasonable rent. Other amenities are planned, but as of now, this is what we found: The roads may have been nicely done when first built (asphalt covered with fine gravel) but already have pot holes and wash-outs. During rainy days, the access road was a series of ponded ruts. Night lighting is present but sparse and highway noise is constant. Our pull-through site was spacious but sloped. There was no picnic table, patio, BBQ or cable TV. Utilities were reliable but the sewer hookups for pull-through sites were at the rear of the site, requiring extension hose for those with mid-point connections. Back-in sites appeared to be more centrally placed. Free Wi-Fi is limited to 1GB (I was unable to connect). Secure Internet connection is available for a price. During our ten-day off-season stay, overnight travelers were few-everyone else was a permanent resident, a few modern rigs but many relics with yard clutter. Permanent residents were quiet and well-behaved. Bottom line: this is a safe place to park with caring management and all the necessities-but obviously still a work in progress. - TMN-15

The Park is Approximately a year old as of this review Oct., 2018. They plan on a lot of future change. Pool, Pavilion, playground and et al. There is a tent area. There is a small dog park. The mgr. owners are very pleasant and live close by. - bwandwhitey
May 2018 - $35.00
Nice, quiet new RV park. Cows next door to RV park, made me feel like I was back in time to my childhood on the farm. Gravel roads and spacious sites. Large clean bathrooms. Large laundry room. Game room with pool table and arcade game machines. Dog park and good WiFi available. Dump station also available. The staff is very nice and helpful. We would stay here again. We stayed for 6 months. Monthly rate was $350 + electric. 10 miles from Bastrop. Just 30-45 min to Austin; near lake and state park. - LaneyC RN

We occupied the only one of two remaining pull-through site in the park. It did not have a sewer connection. Five previous pull-through sites (we've stayed before) have been converted to a type of "cabin" camping experience using new airstream trailers with full hook-ups in highly developed sites (shade, deluxe fire pit, deluxe gas grill island, table & Adirondack chairs, wheelchair accessible and overhead night lighting). Bottom line: this is an intentional nod to those looking to stay without RV's. It's a legitimate Lower Colorado River Authority decision, given that most people visit the park to fish, boat or swim. As RV'ers we, however, will not return. Regarding our site, water pressure and electricity were reliable but heavy use of leveling blocks were required to prevent an over-stroke error on my automatic leveling system. Site was clean with fire ring, picnic table, shade and plenty of asphalt space to park our RV and two cars. We received several high definition over-the-air TV stations and our Verizon hot spot provided good service. Bathroom was generally clean but unheated, making showers in December a trying experience. No laundry. Lack of sewers will define the park as a place for only short-term RV stopovers, holiday and weekend use. That said, this is a beautiful, quiet area and the park is well-maintained. - TMN-15
Feb 2018 - $36.00
We stayed at North Shore Park for two weeks, changing sites mid-stay. The camp host was not there when we arrived & office was only open Thursday through Sunday, which I assume is winter hours. However, we did not know that before we arrived and had to figure things out on our own. (The telephone number provided when making a reservation is for the South Park campground.) The 50 amp wasn't working on our pedestal and we had to report it at South Park but it was eventually fixed. The sites were not level and I now understand the reviews that said this park is good for practicing. - We did manage to find a somewhat level section of the site. This is a small campground and was very quiet when we were there. The day rate I listed includes the day use fee that is in addition to the reservation charge. - lce3
Apr 2017 - $25.00
The RV park is very well kept with a very friendly host who is always around if you need anything The day park & facilities, adjoined to the Camping section is another story. I heard a commotion coming from the women's bathroom during an evening walk & there was a whole faimily in there with suitcases and using the facilities. - Texan58

This place is a gem. Beautiful area with a lake. Our full hook up site had tons of trees, lots of room for our 41' MH and 4dr Jeep. Even with the heavy trees our Dish worked great. We were the only ones at the campground except for the camp host. Super quiet and private. - Fishclan Adventures
Oct 2018 - $30.00
We camped here on a Friday and Saturday night in our travel trailer by making reservations 131 days prior to arriving. Our FHU site was nice and very private as it was surrounded by heavy brush. We were delighted to see that our campsite BBQ grill and fire pit was completely cleared of any ash or debris. Frequently barking dogs kept this from being a quiet campground. Basically the reason for this *POOR* rating is the shower/toilet situation. This campground has a total of 6 shower/toilet units where there is a sink, shower and toilet behind a locked door. Units were occupied by users for over an hour showering, creating a looooong wait for others who simply wanted to use a toilet. Great design of units, but 6 is totally inadequate for this size campground, especially when it is filled to capacity. I've seen cleaner restroom/shower facilities. Three camp hosts on site here! LCRA staff will deliver to your campsite $4 bundle of firewood. There is a $6 on-line reservation fee + day user fees of $5/pp for each day in campsite + the nightly $30 campsite fee. There are various discounts offered for the day user fees. - napunani
Apr 2018 - $27.00
Not to be confused with nearby Bastrop State Park, this park is run by LCRA and the lake is part of the cooling process for a nearby electric plant. Pineywoods, great trails, kayaking and fishing on the lake. And ice cream novelties and Kuerig machine in the office. - mac2school

This is a jewel of a park. The "big sister", Bastrop SP, is just NE of Buescher and easy to go to with the park road but it was packed. Buescher is nice and quiet and a lovely park. If you want a quiet place, this is it. The rangers are great. The sites are small, however. No problem with our 18 foot. There are a few longer but bigger rigs could get into the smaller ones. They just need to be careful and know how to back in. They have overflow parking to park your vehicle if there is not enough room. There are no pull through sites so be aware if you have trouble backing up your rig. Lots of trees but that is what makes it so nice. The lake is nice and next time we will fish. They have nice trails and we want to go back when it is cooler so we and the dogs can navigate them easier. - Cirrus
Jan 2015 - $17.00
Beautiful old CCC state park with small fishing lake. The Cozy Circle area is the only loop that will accommodate 30+ foot RV's. Many of the sites have the picnic table opposite of door side. Many sites have good privacy. Heavily wooded, we could not extend awning fully. Dump station near Cozy Circle has tight turning radius. Not a problem but be aware. We would stay here again. - drfife
Mar 2013 - $22.00
This is a gem of a state park. While Bastrop State Park is connected to Buescher on interior roads, this park was not affected by the big fire and is still green and lush. It is a blast to road ride the connecting 11 mile paved streets in-between the parks, but know that the hills are very challenging and ideal for training. We enjoyed the beautiful hiking trails that are well marked and shaded. Fishing is free in all Texas State Parks and this lake is well stocked with large-mouthed bass, catfish and trout. The bathrooms are spotless and offer free, hot water showers for campers. The playground is large and wide open and all of the rangers and park staff were friendly and helpful throughout our 14-day stay. This park is just 2 miles up the road from Rocky Hill Ranch, a well known mountain bike park that offers epic cycling opportunities! About 4 miles from downtown Smithville, this park is private, clean and very beautiful. We enjoyed a peaceful stay and we camped here with 2 dogs. In the next several months, all of the hiking trails in Buescher State Park will be open for mountain biking! The check-in office is lovely and many of the out buildings were built by the CCC in the 1930's and offer great historical significance. - RVLife4us

Dec 2018 - $25.00
What is NOT here: golf course (it has gone back to Mother Nature because the vendor could not operate it profitably), Wi-Fi, cable TV, propane, rec room, laundry, camp store or casino. There used to be fishing available but a spring flood burst the earthen dam and . . . . no more pond! What IS here: all the other stuff listed, to include showers (a new, modern air conditioned bath house/restroom complex). Yes, there are fire ants in Texas! They don't seek you out unless you temp them with food left outdoors or park on top of their home. As for traffic noise from highway 71, yes it is a factor-an important one if you have difficulty sleeping. With all that said, here are the facts: the Piney Hill camping area is farther from highway 71 than Copperas Creek camping area, has the only full hook-up pull through sites in the park, provides the largest, most private vistas from your window, is a short distance from the swimming pool, park headquarters, playground and hiking trails. For the money you will not find a more expansive private campsite anywhere in the Bastrop area. Our Verizon hotspot worked flawlessly and we got numerous clear channels OTA. Utilities are convenient, reliable and work fine. There is only one set of dumpsters serving the camping area, making it a hassle if you park a long distance away. It is true that the park police patrol all camping areas regularly throughout the day and night. This place is a bargain! - TMN-15
Aug 2018 - $25.00
Bastrop is slowly recovering from the devastating fires of a few years ago. I stayed a couple of nights in a pull through site at Piney Hill and enjoyed my stay. The sites there are nice sized, but leveling can be a problem. Also not a whole lot of shade. I didn't use the camp bathrooms or golf course, so don't know their conditions. It was hot as is to be expected in August. The park has a nice swimming pool and gift shop. Yes, i'll stay again when possible. - Texas Jim
Mar 2018 - $25.00
With reservations made in early December 2017, we camped under the tall pines in the COPPERAS CREEK campground of Bastrop State Park on a mid-March Friday and Saturday night in a full hook up site. Most of the full hook up sites were utilized by tents. Most trees between the Park and Texas Highway 71 were destroyed by the 2011 fire, so the highway noise and street light pollution from Texas Highway 71 was HORRIBLE! As we sat around our campfire, we could hardly conduct a normal level conversation! Definitely NO peace and quiet here, so light sleepers be warned! Restroom/bath house are fairly new construction with air conditioning. Check-in ranger was very friendly and helpful. We saw regular patrols of the ranger every hour or two throughout Copperas Creek campground. Great Saturday morning hike a volunteer naturalist, which took us thru the fire raged area of the park. Very informative and interesting info was provided on the fire and the rebirth and restoration, which will take a life time. This park has a swimming pool (which was closed during our visit) with no lake or lake access. I'm rating this TERRIBLE as I don't enjoy camping where I can see street lights and hear highway traffic at all hours of the day and night.
My recommendation is camper awareness...just know that there is no peace and quiet due to traffic noise. It will take the trees about 50 years or so to grow and form a noise barrier. - napunani

May 2017 - $30.00
Large sites, very quiet park. Bathrooms and other facilities were very clean. Pool looked well taken care of but did not get a chance to use it. The park was convenient to Giddings which was important to us because we traded in our trailer for a larger, new one, purchased at Funtown RV. It appears that there are a number of sites occupied by oil workers, etc., which only adds to the peace and quiet of the park. We would definitely come back to stay here in the future. - Patricia Sterkowitz
Jan 2017 - $30.00
Most of the campers here seem to be long termers or permanent. Quite a few dogs. Someone had a fenced off area with 4 dogs in it. Park is clean and quiet. Convenient to Highway 77. Sites are very spacious. Internet worked well. - UllaPool
May 2016 - $34.00
We stayed here in a 40' fifth wheel for two nights. The pads are long and the sites spacious; accommodated us very nicely. Pads are gravel as are the roads. Owners are quite nice, but mostly absent. Interestingly, they do not have an office. They will meet you and take you to your lot. Your registration paperwork is given to you at that time. Fill it out and deposit it in mail box marked "honor box". We enjoyed our stay. We feel the price was a bit steep as cable-tv was not offered. We were not offered any type of discount. Wi-fi worked great. - oldbluejay

We love this park. The owner were very friendly and helpful. Our two dogs love the squirrels in the doggie park. The doggie park was shaded and very well maintained. The sites were all concreted and roads paved. They had a subdivision located in the back which provided a safe place to ride our bikes. Will definite come back in the future. - sherry and ron
Jun 2018 - $50.00
This is a really nice place to stay. We have camped at a lot of RV parks, but this is always our pick to stay because of the cleanliness, quiet, amenities, and really great owners. The owners are so very helpful with any need that you may have and on top of that they are great folks. The park's location is close to a lot of different kinds of stores, fast food, good restaurants, and just a great to stay. If you get a chance to stay here, please do not hesitate. - Wdwellbo
Apr 2018 - $58.00
Stayed one night. Easy access in and out next to SH 71 on Colorado River. Friendly staff. Park roads and sites paved with concrete patio area. Pull through sites are very long because they also accommodate two back to back RV's. As a pull-through there was more than enough room for our class c and vehicle. Our site was sunny; however, some sites have shade from decent sized trees. Grounds were clean, mowed and trimmed. Dog park was shady and grassy. Didn't use pool, showers, etc. since we stayed only one night. Wifi okay. Yes, there is highway noise because of it's location but very nice KOA close to many restaurants and shopping and fuel. - DMR2011

Nov 2013 - $30.00
Park is rustic with lots of treesand chickens in park but they stay in roost until after 8 am. The rate is very reasonable and the friendly park host/owner only charged me for three days even though I was there for four nights. I would not consider this park a good location for a large RVs (ours is 36') as the available sites are not level. I found a site near the front of the park that was level enough to use my jacks but I barely fit. At this site the 50 amp power plug was so close to the ground that I could barely bend the cord enough to get connected. The road to the park is narrow and there are two rough railroad crossings to go over. And, yes, train traffic was an issue but the trains in the night seemed to mute their horns. Do not take the shorter route to the park as the road goes through a single lane, low water crossing that is very rough and steep - there were many scrape marks in the pavement where trailer hitches, etc. have hit. - sccatech
