This park is a gem. Beautiful views is the surrounding area. Incredible night sky as this is a certified dark sky park. There is a longhorn herd that you can hand feed on Fridays and Saturday afternoons. Great hiking trails and an abundance of wildlife to see. We camped at Copper Breaks State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

We stayed at the Comanche campground for two nights in November. The park is 14 miles south of Quanah. The campground itself has nice campsites with good spacing. The campground was not full while we were there so there were plenty of open spaces and privacy. Each campsite has a picnic table which is under a teepee-like structure. The one bathhouse was clean. There are some nice trails around the area and the park headquarters has an interesting museum. I was able to get a few OTA TV channels but my T-Mobile coverage was very marginal. We camped at Copper Breaks State Park in a Travel Trailer.

This small park encompasses a lot of amazing scenery and some spectacular hiking trails with interesting geological stuff. Each site has a wooden teepee-like shelter, lantern pole, grill, fire ring and picnic table. Staff is very helpful and friendly. This is a Dark Sky park and the stargazing must be amazing on a clear, moonless night. We had a full moon and some cloud cover, and we look forward to returning in the future to this gem of a park to see the Milky Way spread across the wide Texas night sky. We camped at Copper Breaks State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Hike the Rocky Ledges trail. The map says it's easy; it isn't. But the views are incredible and you will see some well preserved sandstone from the Permian Era seabed with the rippled sands still evident. The other trails are great, too.

We stopped here for an overnight on our way west. We called ahead of time, and were told the office closes at 4:30 pm, but were told that if we arrive after hours we could just find a site and pay in the morning before we leave. We ended up arriving at about 4:25, as she was getting ready to close. She was more than happy to help, and even offered to stay late so we could check out the museum... Yes, there is a museum at the welcome building! We declined her most gracious offer, and ended up not making it to the museum in the morning. We stayed in the Comanche loop, which offered water and electric. The only other campers there were the camp hosts, who were very friendly and fun to talk to. The scenery was great. There were several look out points and you could see an abundance of rock formations. The stars at night were phenomenal!!! We very strongly considered staying longer to give us time to explore a little, but we were on somewhat of a schedule. When we find ourselves coming through here again, we will certainly return and allow more time to stay and enjoy it! We camped at Copper Breaks State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Quiet, underutilized for my benefit, happy to say. Rural and somewhat remote, peaceful and restful. Visited previously, we go out of our way to stay here. A great place to unwind. Today there are five times more campers than I have seen here before, and the park is quiet! Of course we love the voices of happy children! Lot spacing is spacious with a sunny/open exposure. Site surface is gravel and grass, featuring a fire ring, picnic table and patio. We camped at Copper Breaks State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Route 287 is a driving dream. Near Memphis is a rest/picnic stop that is a must see - it's theme is a railroad depot. For those looking for rural, remote and quiet camping, yet excellent facilities, this is the place. Small museum in park office and famous Texas longhorn herd for visiting. Fishing and swimming in the lake. Equestrian facilities.

Price does not include the $2/pp per day fee. Loved the teepees over the picnic tables. Each site also has grill and fire pit. Everyone was back in and it was open on the sides which didn't matter to us since no one was parked right beside us. Could imagine it feeling crowded if our neighbor spots were full. All the 'furnishings' were out back; may want to find a site with bushes to isolate you from your neighbors. International Dark Sky certification is reason enough to travel out of the way for this park. Sitting out at night, we heard lots of animal critters; so much so that we had to put the dogs back inside since they were a bit freaked. The hiking was spectacular. Very clean and quiet park. Only 2 Verizon bars. We camped at Copper Breaks State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

We camped in site 25 (water and 50A electric) at Copper Breaks State Park. Site 25 is very private, but door faces west. Nice little state park. We have stayed here before. No shaded RV sites. We camped at Copper Breaks State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

We arrived a Copper Breaks at lunch time. The office was closed for lunch. We were told to proceed and come back later to register. It was quite a distance to the RV wing (Comanche) and temperatures were hitting 96 degrees in mid October. The park was neat, well maintained but did have many "sticker burrs" in the grass. There were also many yellow jackets nesting in our table shelter. Power and water pressure were good. The area has two much depleted lakes which we did not visit. Too hot. Our ATT cell/data service was marginal but did mostly work. This park is well off the beaten path and I suspect its more a hunters campground as all the spots have large hooks for the "catch". It's a nice park and people were friendly and laid back. We spent the night and moved on. We camped at Copper Breaks State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

This park is beautiful! We arrived late and the information for late check-in was clearly posted. We left a message and the staff called back immediately and told us to go ahead and set up and they would see us in the morning. The sites were large and fairly level. The bathrooms and showers were clean and well maintained. It was quiet and the scenery on the hiking trails was awesome. We would definitely stay here again and have already recommended it to other campers. There is a herd of the Texas longhorns on the premises, but we didn't get a chance to see them. We camped at Copper Breaks State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Would not stay here again. Site 16 very unlevel and if you wanted to build a fire in the grill to BBQ, you could not because the fire box had not been cleaned out for a long time. Checked the site across the street same way. Just lazy employees it appears to me - just my opinion. I will say they were very nice people. Saw 4 employees but only saw 3 campsites being used. Why so many employees? The covers over many of the picnic tables were in bad shape. Shingles coming off, not maintained. We camped at Copper Breaks State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Nice quiet "GEM" of a Park with wide open sites. Lots of trails, friendly park staff, only two other campers on Friday night. Excellent place for a group outing! We used it as a stop over but it would be perfect for a nice quiet weekend. We camped at Copper Breaks State Park in a Travel Trailer.

This park isn't overly scenic, but it is quiet and peaceful. It does have very interesting natural and historical exhibits at the headquarters. RV sites don't have any shade for the RVs or vehicles, but there are shade shelters for the tables. Sites are fairly level and don't require much adjustment. Good views of the night sky and lots of deer and rabbits. Beach/swimming area was completely dried up due to the drought. We camped at Copper Breaks State Park in a Travel Trailer.

We found this park after rejecting a very scarey private campground. The park is clean, quiet, and the staff very pleasant and helpful. We have a Texas State park pass so our entrance fees were waved. There are lots of hiking trails and be sure to ask about the areas interesting history and different geography and natural features. I wish we could have stayed longer but we were very grateful for the one night we spent in this quiet well maintained park. We camped at Copper Breaks State Park in a Motorhome.

We stopped at Copper Breaks overnight and were delighted with the park. It is a small jewel state park that is underused. Groomed hiking trails were very nice. Few other campers were there. All sites were level and the ranger told us to pick any site if we did not like the one assigned. Will definitely stop there again. It is 10 miles from 287. Worth the drive. We camped at Copper Breaks State Park in a Motorhome.
