Overall Rating:

We have stayed at this compact state park for a number of years in the winter, and we looked forward to this year. The campground consists of about 54 sites "in the woods" and 44 sites on the edge of Copano Bay. Hurricane Harvey in 2017 made landfall just 10 miles from the campground and did major damage to the live oaks in the wooded section of the park. In addition, the road on the island to the pier was damaged and much of the pier as well. The bay sites have been closed since the hurricane.

The park is extremely popular and is filled each night in February. We like the sites on Lantana Loop that are well shaded by live oaks and live oak shrubs, affording good privacy. Other woods sites, on Bayberry and Warbler Way are more open. Our site this year had a low spot that turned to mud during the numerous rain events during our visit.

Our Verizon hot spot worked reliably only when we left the phone in a specific position in the RV. Over the air TV was acceptable. The fee shown does not include the daily per-person entrance fee ($5 each). An annual pass for $70 pays for itself very quickly and offers camping discounts.

RVers must take care with the low live oaks that protrude into the roadway and sites. We like this place and plan to come each winter for a few weeks. During our stay, Texas implemented their new "choose your site" reservation system. We camped at Goose Island State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

The bird walks are outstanding, excellent for new birders. Whooping cranes winter a few blocks away and attract many birders.

The tiny town of Lamar hosts "Lamardi Gras" in early February with a parade, music and vendors in the big tent, food and beer, and craft items for sale.

Rockport has a Walmart, a H-E-B supermarket, plus plenty of good places to eat.

We have a 13 1/2' high rv, we were assigned site 135 in the wooded area. The site has many low branches and were not able to back in. The park was full, we did get refunded. Great customer service but park is not tall rig friendly. We camped at Goose Island State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

This park is still recovering from the last hurricane, but it is still an excellent park. Lots of trails to walk, lots of wildlife. Some of the sites can be a bit tight, so choose wisely. Our site had trees on both sides of the pad, which would have made it difficult to extend slides if we had them. Also some sites will not accommodate a tall RV. Nice dump station, but it is a little tight. We camped at Goose Island State Park in a Travel Trailer.

BBQ Shack at 701 Palmetto Ave, had really good food, and reasonably priced. Done miss the shaved ice guy at the park in Rockport. Also the ACE Hardware is one of the nicest around.

Access to the park is good. Pavement all the way. Signage is good. Check in was easy and informative. Be aware, if you have a Big Rig you must be careful driving in the park. It has many Live Oak Trees with some low hanging branches. We stopped a fellow campers with a 40 foot coach from taking out their AC unit. The park is Big Rig manageable but you need to keep your eyes open. Our site, 125, came with a raised patio, table, fire pit, power, water and extra parking for the towed. The park is quiet with trails and bird watching areas. The walk to the water is easy. We would have camped on the beach if it would have been possible. That section is now just a day use area. Too Bad. Corpus Christi is not too far away and Rockport is just a few minutes across the bridge. Their are no restaurants or services within walking distance. There is a Pub a short drive down the road. All services are available in Rockport. We enjoyed our stay at Goose Island and would be back if in the area again. We paid $18.00 night and feel we received good value for our dollar. We camped at Goose Island State Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

Rate reflects use of Texas State Park pass to waive daily entrance fees. First, the cons. Park is very small; roads are tight but with slow speed not hard. The beach side parking is closed for camping and an employee told us there was no plan to reopen it but rather to use it as a day use area. Did not care for the check in procedure. First, watch the speed bumps at the gate, I lost a glass and we went over them very slowly and carefully. If you don't know what space you want, you have to go in, with camper attached, find a space, come back to the gate, with the camper, (you can't park and 'call it in'), you actually leave the park to turn around and go back in again. If you decide to go thru this procedure, instead of just letting them choose a site for you, suggest you pick 3 or 4 sites so when you finally get back up to the front gate, one of them is not already taken. It's a busy park. There are no beach or water view sites available. The good: It is a very pretty park, nice for walking. The waterfront area is nice, plenty for bird watchers to do. There is the Big Tree, a 1000 historic tree nearby. Very interesting history, they have an old CCC building. Rockport is nearby, about 5 minutes across the bridge for restaurants and shopping. Camp sites are well spaced and fairly private. No full hook ups but they do offer a nice large double dump station. Park offers guided birding tours. We enjoyed our visit. Some road noise if you're on the "back row" near the road but it's not bad. Water pressure is good and electric was steady. Their trees took a beating in the last hurricane, but there are signs of healing. If you fish, this would be heaven for you. We camped at Goose Island State Park in a Travel Trailer.

There is a grocery store, HEB is Rockport, very nice store. We enjoyed Moondogs for lunch one day. Be sure to visit the Big Tree. Visit the Aransas Wildlife Refuge, about 30 miles from the park. Beautiful area, lots of birds and other wildlife.

Oh my god, the mosquitoes! I've never seen so many in my life and I live in Central Texas where we have plenty of them. Even with bug spray, they just don't care. We have a folding camper, so it was a big issue, but I guess regular RVs wouldn't care so much. The other main issue with this park is that it's on an inland area, so if you thought it was going to be next to the beach, you're wrong. (Mustang island is still closed, so we thought this would be similar, but it is not). It's not facing the sea. The loops and turns are impossible to navigate and don't make any sense when you're trying to find your site. We ended up leaving early and just getting a $12 beach permit nearby dry-camping directly on the beach. No mosquitoes there. =) We camped at Goose Island State Park in a Travel Trailer.

We stayed in the wooded part (30 amp only) and absolutely loved it. Sites were very spacious and campfires are allowed in that area. Shower house is dated, but clean and the water pressure was phenomenal! This is definitely on our return list. Nightly rate does not include the $5/person/day use fee. Texas State parks are a great bang for the buck. We stayed in the wooded area and were very pleased with size of site, bathroom facilities, and overall all features of the park.

We had "Bird Hosts" 2 spots down from us who invited all to sit in their site anytime to watch the activity at their feeders. We took two birds walks with the park hosts that were most informative.

The sites next to the water looked nice but we were warned about all the salt spray on your unit. Had decent Verizon LTE service and got a shot to satellites with our Tailgater. Will definitely return to this park. We camped at Goose Island State Park in a Travel Trailer.

We had a wooded site which was all that was available. $18 for wooded, $22 for Bayfront. Have stayed here before in the Bayfront sites and preferred them. Typical TX State Park where if you don't arrive early you get the leftovers. Ours had a big power pole in the back, very private on the sides. Lots of birdwatching opportunities. Utilities worked well, good satellite openings, Verizon reception ok. Would rate higher if you knew what your site was going to be like before arriving. They really need to change their system. Picnic tables need to be replaced. We camped at Goose Island State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

We spent 8 nights in the Bayside Loop at Goose Island State Park. These sites are mere steps from water of Aransas Bay. We had reservations and when we arrived at the park were told which sites were available, and we were able to select our site after driving through the campground. Sunsets were wonderful. Great location for fishing, kayaking, and birdwatching. Quite an isolated location. About 10 mile drive into Rockport across the LBJ Bridge for shopping and restaurants. Sites are gravel and seashells and there is grass between sites and the water. Nice covered picnic tables and grills at each site. We pulled into our site for the best views from our motorhome, which meant we need to dig out extra electrical cord and water hose for hookups (25' was just a bit too short). We did need 2 blocks to get level as our site was slightly domed. There is a boat launch on the road to Bayside Loop. The duck hunters often launched their airboats about 5:15 am from behind the campground. A bit loud, but fun to watch them return later in the day. Bathrooms are older, but cleaned daily and in good working order. However, not heated, which was an issue several chilly days. We camped at Goose Island State Park in a Motorhome.

We were here a year ago and loved the bayside sites. Came back this year and still love it but unfortunately discovered that they were totally booked for the following week and a half so could only stay one night. Still one of my favorite places after 20 months on the road. Each bayside site is right along the seawall and has E & W and a concrete picnic shelter and also a grill. There is a dump station so take care of that on the way in and/or out. Lots of great birdwatching and the fishing is free (no license required) as long as you stay in the park and don't wade. The showers are in completely private separate rooms. Utilitarian but clean with good pressure and plenty of hot water. There is a divider between the stall and a small changing area with a seat. There is wi-fi but it didn't work worth a darn. Strong Verizon signal though. We may even wait out the Thanksgiving holiday week and weekend so that we can go back for a longer stay again this year! We camped at Goose Island State Park in a Truck Camper.

We loved this place! We parked our fifth wheel on a bayfront site (water/50 amp electric) 40 feet from the Gulf of Mexico and enjoyed the constant gulf breezes which eliminates the mosquito issue noted in the wooded area. Sunsets here were glorious for the three days we stayed. There is virtually no shade on the bayfront however each site has a covered cement patio, picnic table, and grill so we spent most of our time outdoors enjoying the weather. If you enjoy the "Salt Life" give this place a try. We camped at Goose Island State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Lots of birding and fishing here on the gulf. We also saw several deer each day on the road into the campground. We saw one raccoon late at night near the dumpster and some prints on the back bumper of the pickup, so do not leave food/trash outside.
Lastly, be sure to visit The Big Tree, it's magnificent!

Windy, sunny, very windy. Once we realized which was to position our MH (facing front to the bay with the shelter to our right) we really enjoyed our 2 night stay and were able to sit outside enjoying the sun and the waves without being blown away. It was fun to watch the pelicans and herons waiting at the fish cleaning station for a treat. We walked around part of the wooded camping area and were surprised to see that many sites could, and did, accommodate large MHs. I could have enjoyed staying in that area also (no wind) We camped at Goose Island State Park in a Motorhome.

This is a wonderful, quiet and lovely park. You can choose between windy, full sun bay side spots or the wooded, shady sites. The bay spots are in full sun but have shelters and are fairly close to each other. The wooded spots are mostly shaded by wonderful oak trees and most are very spacious. Electric and water only. Our $28 fee included a basic fee of $18 plus a $5.00 per person per day fee. We rode bikes all around the area, saw birds of all kinds, including Whooping Cranes. We loved staying here.
