We usually camp Sunday-Wednesday to avoid crowds -- so we basically had the park to ourselves. This park is very nice providing full hookup, spacious, pull-though campsites. The trails and campground were well maintained with level, concrete sites. Trails were very nice, shaded and had crushed-granite paths for easily biking. We really enjoyed camping at this park -- we saw deer every evening grazing through the campground. Site 13 was next to the park host, which looks like an open field on the reservation map-- a little deceiving but not a problem. We camped at Stephen F. Austin State Park in a Travel Trailer.

This is a very nice state park with spacious, level pull-through sites. We only stayed one night, so didn't have time to explore the hiking trails and other activities. There is one loop with 40 full hook-up sites and three other loops for tent campers or people who don't need hook-ups. Our site was quite roomy with a large open, mowed area next to it. Everything was clean and worked. Definitely recommended. We camped at Stephen F. Austin State Park in a Truck Camper.

We have camped here before, and we plan to return. For this stay, we were there two nights. One of our children had to have minor surgery at a hospital in Katy. We chose to camp at SFA because our own camper is more comfortable to us than a hotel room, and it is less expensive. Unfortunately, the weather wasn't the best during our stay. Thunderstorms, and ample lightning, kept us in much of the time. That's not the park's fault. When we were able to venture out, we enjoyed it. The campsites are clean and nice. There is ample room. There is an abundance of wildlife. We like having full hook-ups. Cell service is good for when you're stuck indoors. Although we didn't venture out to the museum on this trip, we do like the museum that is nearby. Park rangers are helpful. Park host was active around the loop and was friendly and helpful. There are stores in nearby Sealy. If you get rained in, there is plenty to do in Katy. We camped at Stephen F. Austin State Park in a Travel Trailer.

We camped here in the FHU loop, site #10, for the Presidents' Day holiday weekend. Made reservations 10 months prior. LOVED the Spanish Moss hanging from most trees. Quiet - no highway noise, but there was an occasional train whistle. Only wildlife we saw was a skunk! Overall FHU loop campsites were in good condition and mostly level. There were 3 camp hosts just for this loop which is more than we've ever seen in a State Park in a particular camp area. Campfire wood was for sale at the camp host campsites. Restrooms/showers desperately need renovation. Extremely narrow toilet and shower stalls. Signs displayed stating park host do all the cleaning. Unfortunately, on our second day, there was no electricity to our campsite. Park maintenance was very prompt to arrive and access situation and tried a couple different "fixes", but none worked. So we had to pack up and move to the loop's "set-aside" site in the same loop, #17. Not level side-to-side. We were not given any credit on our stay due to the inconvenience of loosing a day while maintenance tried to fix problem, then we had to go to Park HQ to get info on moving to another site, then striking camp, hooking-up, moving, unhooking, resetting camp...the day was gone! One bar AT&T in campsite. We camped at Stephen F. Austin State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Reservations were a little difficult because Texas was switching to ReserveAmerica. But we finally got the reservation we wanted. Staff and volunteers were very helpful and friendly. We hiked all the open trails and walked the park roads several times. Saw plenty of deer and woodpeckers. It was a very relaxing stay. We camped at Stephen F. Austin State Park in a Motorhome.

Our second stay here. First was in 2014... so we did return. Not much has changed in those years. Same funky sewer connections at each pull through site (in the RV area). Same roads, same mowed lawns, same openings in the woods... and same deer? Eh, maybe not. Staff was friendly, easy to set up. One thing that is changing is the remote feel of this park. Shipping centers and warehouses are getting closer and closer as Houston and Katy expand westward. Soon, San Felipe will be swallowed up by the sprawling thing known as Houston. This state park will soon be an island of trees in an urban sea. Sad to see. We will camp here again as it is a convenient stop a day's travel from our home. We camped at Stephen F. Austin State Park in a Travel Trailer.

This is a nice little state park. All the RV/trailer sites are pull through and have full hookups. We love the hiking trails. They are not difficult, which is a relief since we have two elderly dogs and we, ourselves, are getting older. The one trail that goes along the Brazos River is off limits due to flooding but the rest is just fine. It is quiet, it has plenty of shade and for those who love to golf, there is a private golf course right next to it (not part of the park). If you just want a small, quiet area and plenty of walking, this is it! We camped at Stephen F. Austin State Park in a Travel Trailer.

We stayed at this park overnight only on the way home from a trip we took in June. The park was so nice that we wanted to return, so we did. We stayed two nights in July. I would recommend a cooler time, but the extreme temperatures are not the fault of the park itself. The park features half-moon pull through sites. You get the benefits of a pull through and your camper door faces the wooded area. Sites are mostly shady, but they do get the full sun at times. All RV sites are full hook-up (water, electricity, and sewer). There is a concrete patio on one part of the site with an uncovered picnic table. Women's restrooms didn't look like they were used very much. They weren't clean, but they weren't horrible either. There were resident spiders in two of three stalls; showers had some dirt on the floor from another camper, and it had dried (meaning it had been awhile since the restroom was cleaned). Men's restrooms were very dirty (as reported by my husband, who isn't overly choosy). The park itself was clean. Sites had grass that was cut low, likely so that one could spot any slithery creatures that may or may not be venomous, and we greatly appreciated this. We did not see trash on the ground. Although we did not visit the playgrounds, they appeared to be in good working order. This park is rich in wildlife. We saw deer every day, and we saw deer during our last trip as well. We saw an armadillo running through our site as well. The animals are wild, but they do not appear bothered by our presence--except the deer to some extent. Deer seem to recognize that humans often come equipped with rifles, even though hunting is likely not permitted in the park. Park rangers are friendly, informative, and helpful. The San Felipe de Austin Museum, located outside of the park, is awesome. It opened recently, and it's a special treat if you have even the faintest appreciation for Texas history. We camped at Stephen F. Austin State Park in a Travel Trailer.

This is a real pretty park. The slots are on two loops, an inner and outer loop. The outer loop in our opinion has better views. All slots are pull-through but a bit small for a 45' MH. It fit but barely. There is only 30 amp service so an adapter is required. I didn't have one but picked one up at an RV store within 5 miles of the park. Good cell and WiFi coverage. We did a lot of hiking in the park. The trails are shaded, wide, and smooth enough to ride bikes. The Brazos river trail is probably permanently closed due to previous flooding. The mosquitos are horrendous so be prepared during the spring/summer months. We camped at Stephen F. Austin State Park in a Motorhome.

We have never been to this park, but after they had the big flood last year the park is in great shape. We had a pull through site # 40 with full hook ups. The sites are big in size with a picnic table, fire ring, and sites are paved. Our computer service and cell phone worked well. Both are through Verizon. We camped at Stephen F. There are many walking trails if you like to walk. There is a golf course also inside the park. The park is about 5 miles from Sealy Texas where you will find a Super Walmart, several places to eat. Camping World is back east towards Houston on I-10 about 12 miles from the State Park. Also, on your way to Camping World you will find a Flying J with RV pull through gas lanes and LP Gas.

Stephen F Austin State Park is on the Brazos River west of Houston near Sealy, Texas. The park re-opened March 1, 2017 after being closed since May 2016 due to flooding. Lush vegetation, huge trees and abundant birds. Great hiking trails. There are 40 full hookup, pull through RV sites (water, 30A electric and sewer). The sites are spacious. Many water only tent sites. Most sites have good shade. Water pressure is low. We camped at Stephen F. Austin State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Although we had to wait a while until the office opened over the lunch hour, check was easy and fast. Sites are a little narrow, but all are pull through. This state park has sewer which most do not although sewer inlet is 3-4 inches above ground level which makes dumping a little inconvenient. Only 30 amp in our site but utilities are easily accessible. Restrooms and showers, while a little dated, were clean. Sites are well separated and level. Many walking trails and good birding opportunities. We have been here before and will return. We camped at Stephen F. Austin State Park in a Motorhome.
