Passing through and stayed 2 nights in chilly weather. Sites in our loop are very close together, but mostly empty so it did not matter. Nice views over the lake which was quite high so docks were underwater. Restrooms were almost too cold to use at all. They have expanded metal mesh at the ends. At one time, these had been covered with plastic sheeting, but it was mostly torn away. There is a nice nature trail, but 2 of it's 3 bridges were under water. We camped at Yegua Creek COE in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

We went down to Brenham for groceries, etc. A visit to the Blue Bell Ice Cream factory is definitely in order, even in winter. A large scoop in a cup for only $1.

Very nice sites. Mostly level side to side, which is where it really matters. Clean restrooms. We stayed in site 20. Views on the lake were beautiful. The only reason that I didn't give the location a 10 is that the bathrooms were very cold. So when it came to shower time ... well it was a tad chilly. There was no way for us to turn the heater on while we were trying to use the bathrooms. It was wall mounted but off. We camped at Yegua Creek COE in a Travel Trailer.

The park is clean with an abundant amount of wildlife. Most of the sites have good lake views but the sites are close together. It's a good park and we will camp here again. We camped at Yegua Creek COE in a Motorhome.

Very nice clean park. Road and most sites are plenty big for bigger rigs. A little close but still worth a couple nights, especially if you get a water front. It has a boat launch so I'd bet it fills on weekends. If I'm in the area I'd stay here again. We camped at Yegua Creek COE in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

This is a COE park so it's taken care of. The only drawback would be if your trailer is tall or long. There are a few sites that

might be a bit tight for those, but most are very roomy. The host at the gate is very pleasant and the ranger is excellent. I scraped a spot on my roof and not only did he find me a ladder. But he went up and put temporary patch on for me. That dedication deserves a 4 star rating. We camped at Yegua Creek COE in a Fifth Wheel.

You are close to Bryan-College Station and Brenham. A side trip to Brenham and the Blue Bell factory is a must. Also the Antique Rose Emporium is nearby.

First, the positive - our site, #26, had a great view of the lake. It was reasonably level. There were lots of deer and other wildlife. Restrooms were clean. Its a good central location for visiting a lot of places important to Texas history, like Indepence.
The not so positive: abundance of stickers (grassburrs). Inadequate signage. Gravel/dirt parking pads (we sank down when it rained). Sites too close together. Many had no view other than their neighbors RV. Some sites have grills, some just have fire rings. We camped at Yegua Creek COE in a Fifth Wheel.

Date of Stay: December, 2014 - $13.00
Overall Rating:

The campground which is on Somerville Lake was nearly deserted as it was December. Although some freight train whistle noise was occasionally audible it was distant and it would be fair to say it was a quiet place during my visit. The $13 price I paid with my Senior Pass was half off the normal off-season rate of $26. If I'm not mistaken the peak season rate is $28 before discount.

The park had a makeover a couple years ago. Restrooms and showers are pretty nice as campgrounds go. There were a lot of deer roaming about and many kinds of birds including herons, egrets and raptors. We camped at Yegua Creek COE in a Motorhome.

Very nice lakefront site (#1). Park very friendly as many campers are here to fish and enjoy the lake. Restrooms and showers need updating. The park is closing May 1st, 2011 for renovation without a stated completion date. Rocky Creek COE is also closed for updating. We camped at Yegua Creek COE in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

Nice COE park scheduled for updates this winter. Restrooms were rustic but reasonable clean considering that and the shower was nice and warm. The best waterfront sites do not have electricity. We stayed 3 days at a waterfront site with electricity but with limited access to the water. We had hoped to be able to tie up our boat but there was too much tall, tall grass to do that so we had to launch every time we went out. Had luck catching catfish. The $9.00 rate is the half price senior federal pass rate. We camped at Yegua Creek COE in a Truck Camper.

The staff is very nice and the campground is free of trash. BUT and this is a big BUT, the place is full of grass burrs. I have dogs and the dogs can't even walk on the road because of the burrs. Hooking up utilities had my shoes/jeans covered in burrs. Even though we had paid for 10 days, we left after 2. I won't be back to this campground. We camped at Yegua Creek COE in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

I have to admit, we camp at Yegua Creek about 4 times a year. It's close to our home but that isn't the only reason. It's just a great mix of rustic with modern. We love the sandy beach area in the middle loop. The kids love swimming there. Staff has always been helpful and friendly. I understand that this park is closed until further notice due to a complete face lift. I am very anxious to see what changes are in store for our fave camping place. The bathrooms are in need of some updating, and it would be nice to have a little store on the grounds. Who knows! It's family friendly but yet, you can still party a little. Easy walk to the water from the middle loop. I wouldn't recommend most of the spots in the first loop in the summer. No shade on most spots and it gets very hot! This has been our home away from home for 8 years now, we love it! We camped at Yegua Creek COE in a Travel Trailer.

Rate is w/Golden Age Pass. 47 of the sites have water and electric. Friendly staff. Paved roads, grave site. Sites are fairly level. Mostly back in sites, I don't believe there are any pull thru sites. Nice water view sites. 50 to 75 deer in field every night. Lots of room to walk the dogs. Picnic table and grill and fire ring at each site. Most picnic tables under a small roof shelter. Verizon phone and air card worked very well. About 20 miles from large grocery store. Good for fishing and boating. We would stay here again. We camped at Yegua Creek COE in a Fifth Wheel.
