This has to be the best KOA we have ever stayed at. Although the weather wasn't great, we thoroughly enjoyed our 18 day stay. There is a workout room with equipment rivaling most membership gyms. Due to the bad weather, we used it a lot. They have many organized activities like water aerobics, potlucks, entertainment, and a super friendly staff. Also, a well stocked store with good quality T-shirts priced way below the local tourist traps. The only criticism we had was the noise of emptying the dumpsters at 6:30 in the morning. We camped at South Padre Island KOA in a Motorhome.

Spent a week in a pull through spot with patio - the way they are arranged make them feel spacious. Yes its expensive but it all about the location. Wifi worked at all times and was very fast - lots of TV channels - we will go back next year. We camped at South Padre Island KOA in a Motorhome.

This is JUST AN OK KOA! First off all the sites are Gravel and very hard to walk on. Your Pets will hate this place. There is a Pet Park close to the beach with Grass, but it is a long walk over gravel to get there! We stayed there 2 times and there is so little to do in South Padre, we will probably not go back. And it is usually very WINDY! Just not one of the best KOA's in the system. We camped at South Padre Island KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

First of all it is a KOA. If you've been RVing a while you know what to expect and what not to expect. This is South Padre and if you are here to hang out in the campground I would not suggest coming here. The sites are close together and if it's crowd you are stacked and packed in.

Like others have mentioned about hookups: they are in the back, especially the dump. We couldn't hook up with two full dump hoses. Everything else reached. Cable tv did not work at all but the wifi was acceptable. How close? Well you will see your neighbors sewage dump while sitting in your lawn chair, heck you might even step on it walking around. Most sites are large gravel packed down...no bare feet. Some sites have pavers for a patio, but not many, and they are really no larger either.

This park is no where near walking distance to any beach, but we knew that going into the park. There's no way we were going into the pool: it was dirty and over crowded. Bathrooms could have been kept up, but they've got so many people packed in here staff would have to work 24-7 to stay on top of that.

In general there are not a good deal of "great" parks on South Padre like in Port Aransas. In general if your looking for a good time in the park, don't stay here. If you're just just here for the beach stay here or anywhere else. We camped at South Padre Island KOA in a Motorhome.

They put us in a puny site barely big enough for our rig. Site is paved and hookups at the rear so we couldn't dump and electric cord barely reached. Would have had a better site in a Walmart parking lot! I CAN say we had a great view but that would be true anywhere on the island. Not coming back. We spent spring break at the park. The park is located near the end of the island and is easy reach from the causeway. We would highly recommend the Deluxe Site w/Patio. While all sites are narrow and close to each other, the patio sites have some of the best patios we have seen; brick pavers over concrete with chairs and table. The restrooms/showers were clean with plenty of hot water. The laundry was adequate with commercial machines. The park was completely full with primarily families on spring break, no excessive noise or rowdiness. We camped in a motorhome and would camp here again. Tips for other Campers:

The Pier 19 Restaurant is within walking distance next to the park. Tourist prices, but the food was excellent. Osprey Fishing Charters is connected to the restaurant and offers bot bay and deep sea charters at a reasonable price. We took the 4 hour bay charter ($25/person) and caught fish.

While Park is clean and quiet, staff friendliness is non existent. Would it hurt anyone to smile?! Paid for premium site and bushes so tall can't see anything. Advertised that there was fishing but it's in another city! No activities in park because it's spring break, yet these were selling points when we booked. Had to rent a car to leave park for everything! "Free WiFi" is nonexistent!!!! Very disappointed based on price and promises. We camped at South Padre Island KOA in a Motorhome.

Date of Stay: December, 2017 - $73.00
Overall Rating:

This was our first experience with KOA and first impression of KOA which was unsatisfactory and customer service was severely disappointing. In August 2017, we reserved, via KOA website, a DELUXE PULL-THRU SITE with PATIO for arrival December 23, 2017 at $73/nightly. Unfortunately, the KOA website does not facilitate selection of a particular site and we were assigned #193 upon arrival. KOA designated site #193 as a PULL-THRU...what a joke! We were not warned (either by website or upon check-in) that to actually PULL-THRU site #193 you must have 4-wheel drive to maneuver thru the sandy marsh. The only option upon departure is to back out onto the very busy entrance roadway. Upon learning this at check-in, needless to say, we requested to be assigned to another PULL THRU PATIO, but were told none were available, but as we walked the campground later that same evening, low and behold, there was an unoccupied PULL THRU with PATIO and various unoccupied PULL THRU sites. Additionally, Site #193 is right along the park entrance and Pier 19 roadway, a very busy roadway night and day, so we had CONSTANT road/traffic noise (one night as late as 3am) as our TT bumper was just 5 feet off of the roadway asphalt. Horrible for light sleepers! Sites #189, #190, #191, #192, #193, #194, #195, #196, and #197 (DELUXE PULL THRU with PATIO) are directly along the roadway. There is nothing deluxe about any of these sites and that was also confirmed by our site neighbors. We were greeted at site #193 with dirty rubber gloves on the patio table! Gross! The sunset deck overlooking the Laguna Madre Bay was great. There was a bit of confusion about the Christmas buffet lunch, but we did finally get to attend and it was great! Cable and WIFI functioned well! We camped at South Padre Island KOA in a Travel Trailer.

We have stayed at this KOA every summer over the years and it has always been one of favorites places. This is the first time we have been treated terrible by staff and the park was a complete pit. The pool was not clean and the campground had trash all over the place. It seemed like there was very little staff and the ones that were there did not care at all. Miss the regular folks who took care of things. We camped at South Padre Island KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Unless there staffing changes and keep things repaired and clean as years past this place is going down hill from years past. We did not make a reservation for next year as we have for the last 16 years of going. It's time to try another camp ground.

There are two campgrounds right next to each other in South Padre Island - the KOA on Laguna Madre and the municipal campground on the Gulf of Mexico. We had been advised to go to the KOA, and we were glad we did. It was clean and well-run. The campsites are gravel, but have paved patios. We had a lovely view of the Laguna though we weren't in a water front site. There is a free public bus that picks you up in front of the campground and takes you all through South Padre Island, as far north as the bird sanctuary. Can't beat that - no parking! The Pier 19 Restaurant on site has pretty good food and outstanding views of the Laguna. The office complex is housed in old water cisterns. We used the fitness center that was on the second floor of the "Commons". There is a RV cleaning service that comes and washes your RV. We had been on the road for awhile, so used this service to wash off the road grime. One negative: to get to one of the dog walks, some campers cut through the playground, and the dogs "used" the sand in the playground before they got to the dog walk. Not so clean for children playing there. We camped at South Padre Island KOA in a Motorhome.

Location! South Padre Island was a great way to spend a month being a Winter Texan - so much to do, from birding, photography and dolphin watching, good restaurants (including Pier 19 right on the KOA property), the beach, and even a KiteFest! Although the KOA spaces were extremely Rate was monthly rate. Sites are cramped with not much privacy, but we thoroughly enjoyed the location & facilities (heated pool, workout room, activities) and most of all we enjoyed free ZUMBA instructed by the owners! Oh, and the sunset deck, and the camaraderie of other Winter Texans.... so much! We stayed in the Regal sites, their top of the line. It was pricey, but each site had full hook ups, a large patio built with nice pavers, large table with chairs, and a deck with adirondack chairs that overlooked the bay. The sites were pull in and very tight for our 45' coach, but we had three coaches so it worked out fine. We stayed three nights and will stay here again next year. Nice place, tiny spots. Had a bit of an issue getting parked but the staff helped; that was very nice. Still with canopy out etc., very small for the price. Neighbours were nice but again too close. Easy to the strip and beach. Long weekends expect busy traffic. I think its a bit too much for the spot you get but guess it's priced because of where you are and limited campgrounds.
