This is a small and nicely maintained State Park. It's an older park but we were told that a renovation is planned soon. The park staff and especially the host were friendly and helpful. There are just four or five 50 amp sites and none have sewer connections but a large dump station is available. The roads and sites are asphalt and in pretty good shape but all sites have some sort of level problem. The site we had is 90 degrees off the road turn in with deep irrigation ditches on both sides. The ditches made it VERY difficult to safely back into the site. The Camp host told me that this site and one other on the other side of the park are the hardest to get in. There's a known problem with Argentinian ants so be sure to review the warning on the state park web site and bring Boron or Ortho ant killer to setup a barrier around the rig and tow vehicle. In addition, we had to spray for little bitty ants occasionally. The park was quiet and the people were friendly. We didn't have any problems with the power but water pressure was a little low and seemed to fluctuate somewhat so a pressure regulator is helpful. We had excellent AT&T signal so our hot spot worked great but there's also about 15-16 OTA TV channels available. The shower house closest to the site is old and not air-conditioned but clean. We liked our stay but the next time if sites 39-42 aren't available we'll go somewhere else. We camped at Martin Creek Lake State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

This is a good TX state park in woodsy east TX. Our campsite was a little harder to get into than normal, but that also had to do with the fact that we were there on a holiday weekend and the place was packed. The staff was very friendly. Good fishing available. Nice trails, especially around the island near the boat ramp. Bathrooms were dated and moderately clean. There is some noise from the power plant (more pronounced at night), but it didn't bother us much. We had good LTE (AT&T) service. We stayed three nights in site #77, a back-in with W/E. We camped at Martin Creek Lake State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Martin Creek State Park is fairly clean. The sites are fairly wide. Sewer not on-site but dump station located up front. There is no wifi but AT&T and T-Mobile both have great service. We camped at Martin Creek Lake State Park in a Motorhome.

Loved this park! During our stay (in the middle of the week) it was very quiet from the perspective of other campers. We also enjoyed the few miles of walking (biking) trails. However, because it's a state park that sees lots of traffic during the weekend, it does have places that need cleaning (mostly near the shores of the lake near the island). An interesting thing about this campground is that there is a power plant across the lake which has a continual humming (machinery) noise coming from it. For us it was basically white noise that actually helped us sleep. Also, there is occasional train noise coming from the plant. Honestly though, this did NOT distract from our enjoyment of this park. We camped at Martin Creek Lake State Park in a Motorhome.

Date of Stay: August, 2016 - $17.00
Overall Rating:

Rate reflects no access fees due to Texas State Park Pass. We don't normally give 10's to parks without FHU, but this park deserves it. This is a gem of a state park! Quiet, clean and well kept. This is the nicest state park staff we have ever come across. The park manager is present and active; the office staff is helpful, friendly and knowledgeable. Ranger staff, maintenance and camp hosts were all visible and friendly. They welcomed us and went out of their way to ensure we had a pleasant stay. Power was steady at 122V and 55PSI for water. No sewer, but there is a double dump station. It was very clean and provided a trash can and water hook up. They have an island you can access by a walking bridge with picnic tables and trails all thru it. Great bird watching, large boat launch and numerous places to fish and enjoy nature.

There are 2 camping loops, one is 30 amp only, the other is larger, but they only offer about six 50 amp sites at this time. Staff told us they are updating their electricity to the park and hope to have more 50A in the near future. Most are fairly level. The park was quiet while we were here. There are some camping shelters for tenting and a couple of cabins. We plan to return to this park in the future. We camped at Martin Creek Lake State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Plenty of places to eat in Tatum, Brookshires for groceries. There is a Walmart about 15 minutes way in Longview.

We stayed for a week at lakefront site #52 for $17/night. Non-lakefront is $13. Expect an additional daily entrance fee *per person,* but since we expect to stay at TX state parks for at least 3 weeks, buying the annual pass for $70 will pay itself off. The sites are pretty well spaced apart, some are quite private, but many of them are sloped and too short. The park requires you to park your vehicle on the pavement so we had to park ours sideways while we were unhooked from our 30' 5th wheel. Each site comes with a fire pit, picnic table, hanging hooks, tent pad, and sometimes a cover for the table (ours came with one). No sewer at any of the sites. There is only one bath house for each of the camping loops, and extremely outdated, one of the worst I've come across in my 7 months of full-time RVing. My first shower only lasted 5 minutes because the hot water ran out. Now, I'm wishing I would have listened to the other reviewers and stayed in a regular site away from the lake due to the noise emitted by the coal trains and power plant. It seems to be the loudest at night, lasting just around midnight before it finally quiets down. You can sometimes feel the vibrations from the noise through the RV unit (lasts just a short while). Our Verizon MiFi got 2 bars of LTE, voice was consistent. Got 2 TV channels over the air: some station named COZI (played 60's-80's shows) and a Spanish one. I hate having to write such a poor review for a state park, but this one really does need some improvement to lengthen the parking pads, update the bath houses, and finish building covers for the other sites picnic tables. They can't do anything about the power plant, which sadly will keep us from ever returning on our way back through in the future. We camped at Martin Creek Lake State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

B&B Foods (across from Sonic) is the only grocery store in Tatum, as well as the dollar stores. They had all the bare essentials of any item you might need (in the yogurt section, they only had 2 kinds: Yoplait or Oikos Greek). Next best thing is driving 20 mins to Walmart in Henderson. If you enjoy geocaching, a new night cache was recently set up within the campground and was fun to find.

$17 per night was for a mostly level asphalt pad with 50-amp electric and water site in the Bee Tree campground. We do have the TX Parks Pass we purchased for $70 (it allows access to all 90 TX state parks)-otherwise it's $17 per night plus a $3 per person daily entry fee. Sites are generous dirt/sand/dead leaves areas with a picnic table and fire ring. The whole park is loaded with different types of tall trees and low vegetation. There were abundant types of birds flitting about. The night sky is very dark so the stars are brilliant. All the facilities were in good condition and the park staff was very friendly and helpful. There are miles of multi-use and hiking trails. We could hear the power plant and the trains but their noises were in the background. This campground is located about four miles from small town Tatum where there is a very nice grocery store and a couple of restaurants. The park does not have public Wi-Fi access. AT&T and Verizon service was full bars of 4G LTE. We received 15 over-the-air TV stations and many radio stations. We camped at Martin Creek Lake State Park in a Motorhome.

Park is a good clean park, has a power plant that makes lots of noise during day, but at night quiets down due to less electric consumption I guess. Friendly staff, clean bathrooms! But the ants be ready for them, they think RV's are lunch boxes and they seemed to learn how to get into them, power cords, water hose and any thing touching your RV. We used WD40 on power cord and water hose wife though it would work and it did. Bring some good and a lot of ant spray. It's not fun if they get inside, I promise you, but if they don't great park; I'll go back. We camped at Martin Creek Lake State Park in a Motorhome.

I was a little disappointed in this park. We had a lake front site, and across the lake is a huge power plant that made a constant loud noise. Added to that were the trains delivering coal that were constantly blowing their whistles all times of the day and night. This would have been a more pleasant experience if we had camped in a site that was actually out of sight (and sound) of the lake. That said, the park was nice enough, clean, and the lady who checked us in couldn't have been more pleasant. We camped at Martin Creek Lake State Park in a Motorhome.

The primitive sites are not drive-up. They require a hike over a bridge. Well patrolled, gates locked 10-8. Staff friendly, helpful. Good for an overnight, but would not want to spend any more time next to the power plant, with all it's bells, whistles, buzzers, and continuous drone. Visit the Harmony Hill cemetery while here, a beautiful place just up the hill. We camped at Martin Creek Lake State Park in a Tent.

We enjoyed this campground very much for our weekend trip . There was plenty to do with the lake for fishing, boating and swimming, picnic areas and hiking. It was a good park for riding our bikes. As the previous reviewers mentioned, you can hear the plant and trains while in the park, but it was not bothersome at all. We enjoyed visiting Tyler and Henderson while we were in the area. The rangers at the park were very helpful and nice. We would definitely stay here again. We camped at Martin Creek Lake State Park in a Motorhome.

We spent one night here on our way to Ft. Worth. It was a very well laid out campground with good level pads. The negative is a HUGE coal fired power plant across the lake that clunks and bangs all night. I think if you're into fishing and boating this would be worth a stop, but not much else to do here. This a nice enough State Park and well worth the $18 price for a lake front site. However, the power plant across the lake is very noisy and the pavement around the camp sites is coming apart. The site are eroding away and little to no work has been done to correct the problems. We camped at Martin Creek Lake State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Very solid state park. No sewer or it would rank higher. Big power plant and trains in the background but not much of a bother. Very scenic. We barely made it in our 39 foot motorhome. Limited 50 amp service. I would stay here again. We camped at Martin Creek Lake State Park in a Motorhome.
