Nice quiet park just far enough from the interstate to avoid highway noise. There are occasional trains but not really loud. Park is nice and fairly level with good access. We camped at Desert Willow RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Rate reflects Passport America discount plus tax and use of a credit card. We got there before the office opened at 2 PM so we just picked a large pull-through across the the road that splits the park. Parking is on packed dirt that is pretty close to your neighbor (forgot the site number). Excellent 50 amp power and water pressure. No problem getting a Directv satellite signal. The sites in this section are back-to-back so you may or may not get to make them into a pull-through. Some train noise that we didn't think was too bad. WiFi was worthless in the part of the park. We would definitely stay here again. We camped at Desert Willow RV Park in a Motorhome.

Very nice, small park with level sites. Easy to get to. Not far off I-10. All utilities plus cable worked good. Nothing to do with the park, but beware it is relentlessly windy here and there are many trains coming through the whole town. We stayed 2 nights. We would stay here again in our fifth wheel. What's not to like? The Passport America rate was $13.50 and .50 cents more for using a credit card. So, I paid a grand total of $14 for a large, level space with full hook-ups, easy access from I-10, a nice and warm (it was freezing outside!) tile restroom, and a whopping 52(!) Cable channels to help pass a cold evening. I've paid triple that and not received half as much. The manager was nice and laid back. They even had a small dog run. Lazy customers had not picked up after their dogs, ruining a good thing, but, hey, I didn't expect a dog run anyway.

I always chuckle when people stay beside a train track and then complain about the train noise, especially in the west where the railroad is everywhere. You are hereby informed there is a train track, so don't stay here and then complain about it. Same goes for interstate noise. You can't have it both ways - stay near I-10, easy on & easy off, then gripe about road noise. Actually, we couldn't hear any Interstate noise. We camped at Desert Willow RV Park in a Motorhome.

Access was good. Easy on off of I-10. Signage was adequate. Check in was quick, efficient and informative. Our site 7, was a hard packed gravel pull through. Services were to the left rear and all worked well. We did not have a table but 30/50 power, water and cable plus Wifi that worked quite well. Our rig is short so had we wanted to keep our towed connected we could have. A longer rig would have required a disconnect. The park is only an over-nighter. There is not much to keep a person in Van Horn. There are no restaurants or serviced within easy walking distance. We paid $23.50 per night including a GS discount and feel we received fair value for our dollar. We would return if in the area. We camped at Desert Willow RV Park in a Motorhome.

Updated power, water, sewer connections. New washers and dryers, and very clean laundry room. For once, I didn't fear accidentally dropping clothes on the floor. Nice tiled restrooms which were very clean. This park is run by campers who know from experience how a campground should be kept. The park is virtually treeless. The surface is flat and low dust, even in a windstorm. Van Horn isn't much, with most establishments closed during the day. Lots of boarded up windows. Almost impossible to get a drink within walking distance. Still, a fine place to stop, rest for a day, do some laundry, watch some TV on the free cable with some decent channels. Free Wi-Fi too! We camped at Desert Willow RV Park in a Motorhome.

El Capitan Hotel is a beautiful architectural landmark. Certainly an oasis in a sea of crumbling buildings. Bar doesn't open until 5pm.

As others note, this is a bare-bones campground with gravel most everywhere; dogs had to look hard for some grass. Everything works fine; easy off and on I-10 with some train noise, but it fits the bill perfectly for us. Heading west, it is about two hours from El Paso, so you can time your trip thru there. We left to avoid as much traffic in EP as possible. Will stay here again. Small town with not much going on that we could see. We camped at Desert Willow RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

We have stayed at this park almost every time we have crossed West Texas. Nothing fancy - just a gravel parking lot, but a great place for an overnight. Sites are level, clean, hookups are easy and in good condition. Very nice bathrooms and showers - clean, fully tiled, in very good condition. In and out are easy. We never have needed to unhook. They haven't been overwhelmed by oil patch workers like the parks in Ft. Stockton. Never had a problem getting a site, even when we called the day of arrival. Although the sites are close together, there is no problem putting out the slides, and still plenty of room between you and your neighbor. Screw in hook-up. Need to elevate the hose a little, since the connection is slightly above ground. Power has never been a problem. Works consistently well. We camped at Desert Willow RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Super place for an overnight on I-10. Easy access from the highway, but far enough away so that noise is not bad. Good 50A power. Very good cable tv - 48 channels. Would definitely plan to stop again if we are going this way. Price is reflecting the Passport America discount, but they offer the same discount for Escapees. We did not want to battle I 15/215 traffic on a Monday morning to start a trip. We decided to travel for 2 hours on Sunday afternoon and stay at this RV Park before we headed to point East on I15. Nice park, we had a pull through that was shaded. Nice spot. We camped at Desert Willow RV Park in a Motorhome.

Arrived late afternoon. Had a pull through in center. Enjoyed drinks & dinner at the El Capitan hotel. It's only a 3 block walk and that is why we picked this overnight campground. Utilities were good and where they should be. All was well until shortly after we went to bed around 10pm. Around 10:30, with our shades closed, we were awakened by very bright lights lighting up our trailer. I though it must be just a camper pulling in and setting up. But the lights never went off. Our bedroom was lit up like a football stadium! I looked out the door and a big pickup was backed in the space right behind us with the bright headlights on, lighting up us and the trailer next to us. From the looks of the RV it must have been a permenent 5th wheel, perhaps they just came home from work. THEN the music started. The bright lights and music lasted several hours. What a jerk slug, rude rude rude. Of course, at this budget campground there is not resident manager or security, and I was not about to confront such a kncklehead. Upon pulling out at 9am the next day I stopped at the office to complain, but the office was closed. So if you do stay here keep far away from anything that looks like a permenant RV, or you may get a bad night of sleep. We camped at Desert Willow RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Rate listed is PA. Very simple gravel and dirt park with some trees. Main park has longer pull-throughs on the south side. Across the street on east side of the main park is a larger open dirt area with FHU that is very flat. With our 43' MH and towed vehicle, we elected to use this area rather than navigate the main park turn-ins and trees. Did not have to unhook at all. Road noise from I-10 is minimal, but be prepared for the freight trains that pass nearby all night long. They blow their horns when passing through and it can be quite loud. Great simple park for an overnight stay. Reliable 50A power. Will use again if passing through area. We camped at Desert Willow RV Park in a Motorhome.
