Made reservations 173 days prior to arriving for a 2-day weekend stay. This is a US ARMY Corps of Engineer Park at Waco Lake. Disappointed to discover that RECREATION.GOV website misrepresented Site #14 as SHADY - what a joke! There were two scrawny cedar trees that created NO shade! So we were baking in the sun! There are some nice shade trees closer to the water, but nothing on the actual campsite. Site #14, full-hook-up site, is directly across the cove from the lake boat launch where there are two street lights, so there is no need for a flashlight thanks to these lights, which are on all night long!! Site #14 pull-thru has direct access to the lake, but it not directly on the lake. Very large campsite with ample space for numerous tents (not sure what the policy is for tents on the same site). The entrance gate is locked 10pm-6am, but you can exit during that time. Lots of flooding evidence with large debris piles. Gate personnel encouraged collecting debris for campfires. We camped at Airport Park COE in a Travel Trailer.

Wonderful city operated COE park and RV campground. Price for COE senior. On-line reservation at Recreation.gov. Paved roads with level paved back in sites with W & E and a few FHU sites. Lots of scattered trees and grass between shaded or open sites most sites back up to lake, others a short walk to lake. Good TV antenna signal. 4 bar & 4G Verizon signal. No Wi-Fi at sites. Good security and office staff friendly and helpful. Park clean and well maintained Still rebuilding after flood damage last year. Airport a mile away and for general aviation so only a few small planes. 7 miles to downtown. Discount park entry fee for seniors. Will stay there again. We camped at Airport Park COE in a Fifth Wheel.

Great park! There's only a few sites that have easy access to the water, but great views of the lake, and beautiful sunsets. It's very quiet and friendly. The staff member who runs the gate, is very friendly and helpful. This is now our "go to" park. We camped at Airport Park COE in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

This park was in its prime a long time ago but in May it flooded again. It has flooded the last two years. There is a smell from the water. The lake level was down. Sept was extremely hot and the wind and bugs were at an all time high. You could not sit out side at night as you would be carried off by the mosquitoes/bugs . The roads have been repaved. There are a few trees for shade as a lot of the trees got damage in the flood, but we ended up facing the wester sun and it was 103 durning the day and could not sit outside. Due to the flooding there were dead trees in clean up piles. A majority of the campsites have not been fixed. Sites are spacious and some what level, we had to use some wood on the front tires to level the coach. Your GPS will get you to the park. We came from the North at Bellmead we turned North west to 340 bypass, stayed on Lake shore dr. Made a right on N 19th st and stayed on China springs Road and made left on to Skeet Eason Road. Then half a mile on the right is the entrance. So much easier than going around the airport. Even if you miss the exit you can go around the airport again. So when you exit its easier to go out and make a left and then a right back to China Springs road. This site #23 is in the curve of the turn so you have to pull far right in order to back in. We could not leave our awning out as the wind was very strong durning our stay. We left several days early, due to the bugs and the heat. The bathrooms were gross and creepy, full of bugs. We saw the camphost drive past us but never spoke. The lady who check us in was a little uptight when we asked concerning questions. We camped at Airport Park COE in a Motorhome.

This place is on the outskirts of town. There are several gas stations for ice and minor items. The National Mammoth Monument park is down the street and the down town area is just about 3o mins away. You must go to the Magnolia Silos

This COE park is VERY close to the airport and big planes landed twice while we were there for one night. The sound was extremely loud and shook the RV. The grounds were also pretty unkempt with an abandoned building, lots of broken concrete, and stickers everywhere. Super disappointing because it was a beautiful location. We camped at Airport Park COE in a Fifth Wheel.

Friendly and helpful hosts greet you at the gate. Roads are easy to navigate but there were some low hanging branches at the entrance to our loop which contacted the top of our trailer. Sites are level and about 50% of them have some shade. Some have nice views of the water. Restrooms/showers were clean but extremely hot inside. Water pressure was 80 psi so bring a regulator for your rv. Also there was no water for about 3 hours due to a leak. Electricity also went out for a few minutes. Much of the park was closed due to flood damage, but is scheduled to reopen in September. Park is very convenient to Waco, and is a good place to watch general aviation aircraft. There is also a good ramp for boaters. We camped at Airport Park COE in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

As with most COE parks - this place is a fantastic water themed vacation area. The roads are all paved and easy to navigate. Nearly all the sites have some trees so shade from the hot sun is generally available. The only downside is trying to get to this place. If you are not a local - you will likely have great difficulty in finding it. The address (Skeet Eason Rd) is actually an access road around the airport. There is no signage telling you that you need to go further to get to the actual park entrance - and even then, the sign is not very big or visible. Granted, this is not that big a deal in a car - except if you have a 40ft Rv and are towing. There is no place to turn around. But once you finally get here - you will likely love the setting. We camped at Airport Park COE in a Motorhome.

We stayed here while visiting Magnolia Farms. It was just enough out of town to be very peaceful. The staff was very friendly at check in. The park was very clean and well organized. We used our National Parks pass to get a 50% discount for 3 nights. This is a great place to stay while visiting Waco and the sites are spacious with trees and a covered picnic table. We stayed on a waterfront site which was amazing. The only downside of the campground was in our loop, the bathhouse was in bad shape. There was no running water and flies galore! Another bath house further down, appeared to be pretty clean but not great. We had a non sewer site, but managed it well over 4 nights there. The sunsets on the lake were awesome! Tips for other Campers:

Hint: If you go to Magnolia Market at the Silos.... Go early. They are very busy. If you go to Magnolia Table for breakfast.... Go early. Same reason. Coaches XXX BBQ downtown was very good, try the chicken poppers. George O's restaurant has very good chicken fried steaks and cold beer. Parking at Harper designs is limited and if you get out to Crawford, go to JDH Designs (Jimmy Don's metal shop) He is the nicest guy.

The size of the site was good and so was the beautiful view. We arrived Sunday and the grass was knee high. Full of stickers and those with dogs in our group of campers had real problems taking them out to do their business. The men's restroom on our loop was awful, full of bugs and dirty. Some of our group had to drive to other loops to use the facilities. The park also does not enforce dogs being on a leash so watch were you walk. We camped at Airport Park COE in a Motorhome.

I very rarely stay at COE or state parks due to size issues and trees, I like my sat TV, but this was a pleasant surprise. I wanted to see the Chip and Joanna show so wanted a park close by. This seemed the best, so I called and asked about a pull through, FHU, and sat friendly. The office recommended site 64 and they were correct. It did all we asked for. We just finished a 3 night stay at this campground. Pros: great location, when visiting the sights in Waco. Rangers are very, very nice. Our site was a pull-through with an amazing view. Cons: campground has seen better days. Some areas are very worn. During our visit, the bathhouse was filthy and the showers did not work (the ranger said they were in between cleaning contracts). This campground can experience some really strong winds. Our guess is because the sites are on the lake. Two of the three nights, we had gusts of 35 mph. Not the park's fault, but it does make for a very rough night sleep. We had a beautiful view, close proximity to the sites in Waco, 50amp service and water with a pull-thru site...all for $24/night. Property is very quiet. We were very happy with our stay. 8.5 out of 10 for us. We camped at Airport Park COE in a Fifth Wheel.

This is a nice COE park in a great location to explore the Waco area. It has 24 RV water/electric sites and 25 RV FHU sites, screened shelters and tent sites spread out over four sections of the campground. We stayed in site 64, a fairly level FHU pull through site with lovely panoramic views of Lake Waco. Site was clean and nicely raked with a covered patio, large metal picnic table, barbecue pit and fire ring. Nice spacing between sites and the interior roads were good. The park also has a nice boat ramp and many parking areas for visitors. We really enjoyed being able to fish literally steps out of our door. Bathroom/shower area was older and lacked hand soap but was fairly clean when we arrived on Friday. However, they became a filthy mess over the Easter weekend and beyond (someone even defecated in the men's urinal). No one came to clean them all week. The toilets shoot water out of the bowl when flushed onto the walls and floors, so take care. The dumpster next to our site was overflowing and not emptied all week, so garbage was blown everywhere. When we expressed concern over the bathroom and dumpster situation to the campground host, he just shrugged us off and said it's the public's fault, and it's not his job to take care of the facilities and dumpsters. So, my husband cleaned one of the bathrooms so that we could actually use it. This is not acceptable in my opinion. The gate entrance/exit is very tight (watch your mirrors!) and locks at 10:00 p.m. with no admittance, so plan accordingly. Also, there are no laundry facilities here. We were able to get about 25 OTA channels and Verizon signal was excellent. Being next to an airport you do get plane noise, but it was intermittent and didn't bother us. As others have stated, signage to the park is poor. I used Google Maps beforehand to ensure we would arrive at the correct entrance. Overall, we enjoyed this park and would probably return, and hope that the park addresses these issues. We camped at Airport Park COE in a Fifth Wheel.

The Mammoth National Monument is just a few miles away and is worth a visit. Magnolia Market and the Silos are also a short drive to downtown Waco. We went on a Tuesday morning, and the crowd was light (the store and bakery give a military veteran discount as well). Plenty of grocery stores within a short distance. Walmart was about 15 minutes away. If you are coming from the south on I-35, there is major construction through Austin and Temple.

Paved roads and pads with pea gravel patio areas. Others in full view but widely spaced. Park has 8 screen shelters, 19 tent sites, 25 E/W sites and 28 E/W/S sites with a boat launch. Many sites are on the lake and there are a few pull-thrus. Lots of trees but most sites have a good look at the southern sky for satellite TV. Really a great campground for the price. Be sure to turn off Skeet Eason Road at the "Airport Park" sign (doesn't mention camping) so you don't have to turn around as we did. We camped at Airport Park COE in a Motorhome.

We visited Waco Mammoth National Monument and saw an actual site with many of the remains exposed but not moved from their original location. The dig site is enclosed in a large shelter and an informative tour is led by a park ranger who lets you linger as long as you want after there aren't any more questions about the dig and the animal remains.

Very friendly greeting at entrance. Beautiful view of the lake and clean facilities. We were very pleased with our stay here and the price was great. The entrance isn't that well marked but just drive around the runway and you will get there. We stayed here while visiting Magnolia Silos and restaurant. It was about 15 miles away from everything which was perfect. Waco has a nice park for the kids and overall we had a great stay. Would definitely camp at Airport Park again.
