Jan 2016 - $30.00
This is our second stop at this park. Staff was very friendly and helpful. They accommodated our need to stay past the normal checkout time by a couple of hours and at no extra cost. We arrived late (after 5:30pm) on a Saturday evening and one of the owners immediately came to check us in. We'll definitely stop here again! - davedopp
Nov 2015 - $28.00
It was raining and we could not find another park in the area, except one we had used before and it was flooded. We bogged down in a couple of sites before reluctantly just staying put. They need some hard packed gravel or something. There are lots of fire ants. Owners are nice and very helpful. Restrooms are clean, but rather odd with lots of curtains and no place to put your stuff while showering. Glad nobody else was using them. Overpriced. There are good places to eat nearby to which owner kindly directed us. Interstate noise did not bother us. We would not stay here again. - ouachita princess
Apr 2013 - $30.00
Owners and family very friendly and helpful. Some level sites and several not compacted, meaning you could sink tires or levelers on a large rig if the ground is wet. The rates went up to $30 and there are no discounts. - rgg
Sep 2018 - $19.00
Asphalt wide roads, gravel, level sites. The site was a little soft when we arrived, used jack pads so we didn't sink in. Sewer connection was high. Power was good. Seemed like the permanents let their dogs run offleash and unsupervised. WiFi was okay for email and surfing. Plenty of space between sites. Not very busy while we were there. Far enough off highway, so no road noise. - ETX
May 2018 - $20.00
Very nice park wide paved roads easy to maneuver thru. Wide site for rv to park. Sites are not large but better than most. They have picnic tables and a space to park an extra vehicle. Our site was pretty long plenty of room to park rv in all sites look the same. I was told some sites are just 30 amp, kind of shocking for a park in Hot Texas. - JustDon
Nov 2017 - $25.00
Didn't stay here, but it is closed this date due to Hurricane Harvey damage. Desk said there are a lot of uprooted trees along the river and road damage, but the city is working on it to clean up the mess.
Admin note: Following from the City of Gonzales as of November 15, 2017.
"DUE TO THE DAMAGE SUSTAINED FROM HURRICANE HARVEY, THE RV PARK AT THE INDEPENDENCE GOLF COURSE WILL NOT BE OPEN FOR OCCUPANTS UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE. PLEASE CALL JB WELLS FROM 7AM TO 4PM AT (830)672-6558 TO CHECK RV SPACE AVAILABILITY." - NiceHandTick
Nov 2016 - $25.00
Nice city park on the banks of the Guadalupe river, close to downtown Gonzalez. We stayed in one of the pull-through sites which was fairly level. Several of the back-in sites looked very small and not very level. Sites are mostly shaded and interior roads are gravel. The city park also has a golf course, and you make reservations there. We would definitely stay here again. - barrettjl
May 2018 - $40.00
Nice park with a great manager. Sites are concrete with built-in tables and BBQ stand. No fire pits!! Very nice pool. View of the lake. Only negatives are very little shade and power went out for 3-4 minutes several times while we were there. - number one
Apr 2018 - $48.00
Park is actively managed, owner is hands-on in taking care of guests. Rules are reasonable but strictly enforced (one guest was ejected after a few hours for being rude and non-compliant). Amenities are extensive, regular social gatherings are common and there is a calming view of Lake Tinney. Water pressure & electricity were both good. Did not use park WiFi, no cable TV. Laundry facility small, but modern and clean (could use more parking space). Roads are well-developed and heavily graveled. Guests are mainly extended stay and snowbirds, all very friendly and helpful. This is off the beaten path, yet close to banks, groceries, Wal-Mart, etc. We stayed in a pull through space (concrete & level) in a fifth wheel. We stayed 10 days. As full-timers, we will most likely return next year for a longer stay. - TMN-15
Jan 2016 - $33.00
Super clean sites, excellent laundry, clear satellite view, extremely helpful owner, many friendly winter Texans, great lake view, security gate, nice pool, hot tub, top-notch power/water/sewer, many group events, etc. Rate is Good Sam 10% off.
This place has it all and deserves a 10! We would definitely stay again. - wandrr
Oct 2016 - $35.00
We enjoyed our stay at this park. We called ahead to let the owner know we would be coming in late (around 7pm) and she actually came out to the site to meet us there and check us in. Great customer service!! The park has recently added new restrooms and a hall. Both looked great. All sites are pull through. The park had excellent WiFi and full hook ups. The downside is no fire rings or other amenities and the sites are a bit close together. The location is nice as it is just on the outside of town and its right next to a large cattle pasture. The views are great. Overall the park has excellent hookups, WiFi and customer service. We would definitely stay here again. The owner lives next door to the property. Once you pick your site you will need to drive over and check in. - DVCard85
Jun 2016 - $35.00
Sites are all pull-through. We had a nice evening in early June and loved watching the cows in the field behind us. Horses were being ridden on the street our front by some locals.
They just put in a community center and shower building. The showers were rain-type shower heads and were some of the best of our 11,000-mile trip. My sons thought they were the best and I agree. Water pressure was fine and electricity was not a problem. The owner was very nice and very helpful with questions. We would stay here again. - steammaker
Mar 2016 - $35.00
Great little park--very quiet, great wifi, level sites and all pull throughs. The owners have invested time and money, and it shows. No trees here, but there will be, new ones have been planted. The owner lives next door and has chickens--she gave us a dozen very fresh eggs. I don't know if this is standard practice, but it was a nice touch. We would definitely stay here again. - hudsonguy
May 2015 - $20.00
It has water, electric, sewer and a dump station. The sewer connections are covered with metal lids that say "water meter." Use a screwdriver and pry the lids open and you'll see the connection. The RV parking is on a hill in the park. There are no pull-throughs, trash pick-up, or fire rings. There are concrete picnic tables. There is no cable TV and there is no Wi-Fi. There is automobile and foot traffic going through the grounds because it is in a city park and near a high school. The city park has lighted tennis and volleyball courts and a baseball/softball complex. You must go into town to the City Hall before 4:00 PM to pay for the site. - RVTravelerToo
Feb 2014 - $20.00
This is our second time at this park. It has all utilities including sewer. It is on the top of a small hill and views are nice. It is clean and well lit. There is some traffic going through the grounds because it is in a city park and near a high school. I really love coming here and will come back again if in the area. You must go into town to City Hall to pay for the site. We also went to the "Shiner" beer brewery where the samples are plentiful. Check the web site for brewery tour hours. - sherp108
May 2012 - $20.00
Very nice, quiet, large city park. We were the only RV during our 2 night weekday stay. Park is well maintained and well lighted. Staff is very friendly. A visit to the Spoetzl Brewery is a nice feature if you like beer. We would stay here again and re-visit the brewery! - Bob & Stephanie
Jan 2019 - $18.00
Access to the park is easy and well marked. Check in was quick and informative. We stayed in the San Marcos River Loop. It is quieter with no playground or lake access near by. Parameter roads are paved and in good condition. Sites are paved and level. Our site, 3, came with power, water, concrete patio (but not attached to the pad), table, fire pit and a grill. All services worked as expected. Great hiking trails and if birding is your interest there are lots around here. We enjoyed our stay here and would return if in the area. There are no restaurants or services withing walking distance. The closest groceries are in Luling about 10 miles down the road. We paid $18.00 per night and feel we received excellent value for our dollar. - Rollin Ollens
Sep 2018 - $18.00
Heavily-shaded, beautiful trees. They make the camping bathrooms much better than the regular bathrooms. Amazing mountain biking trails. Lake is kind of a joke, don't take your kayaks there. For some reason this month all the mosquitos were gone? Not sure where they went (it did rain a lot). The sites are very well paved. - mrhines
Sep 2018 - $18.00
What a great surprise! I will most definitively come back if in the area again. I was working in the area visiting some clients and stays for four delightful days. The staff was amicable. The parking very easy. Driving through those roads fully covered with trees did make me feel as not in Texas as all. Hiking every morning, I was able to see deer every day. AT&T signal was decent, and I could stream TV with no problem. The water had a bit of smell and taste but expected for a swampy area like that. Although I had my freshwater tank still full from my last stay, I kept using their water. It was not a problem. Pressure not that great, either. But again, I could get through. Important to say that during this stay it was just me. If my wife were with me in this one, probably she would not have liked that pressure nor the smell in the water. But, that was the only "if." Other than that, very well kept the park and both thumbs up for their work. Well done! - Eduardo Almeida
Dec 2018 - $19.00
We stayed first the end of December for several weeks and then came back again the middle of January and paid for a month which lowered the nightly rate down to $14 for a 30 amp full hookup site. The park is run by GBRA (Guadalupe/Blanco River Authority) which is a non-profit government system. We made our reservation less than a week ahead of our arrival and thus did not have to place a deposit. I communicated via email with the office attendant who was prompt in replying and accurate in his information. The reservation process was pretty painless. They don't however accept credit cards at the campground office, it's cash or check only. They even insured the same site on our return visit which was very nice. The roads are gravel/dirt and the site pads are gravel and level. Most of the RV sites are along the north edge of a Pecan grove with a few along the west end and a few also up near the office when you drive in. Utilities are all in good proximity to the sites, with water and electrical at the rear along a fence row which requires a 50 foot water hose minimum. The Guadalupe Rivers runs along the south border of the campground with access for paddling sports. The lake is dry as stated due to dam failure and our understanding is that there is no plans for repair in the near future. The restroom/shower house was adequately kept, but was a dark green which made it like a dungeon. We did use it. During our stays, the park was never full, with weekends being a bit more busy. We prefer public campgrounds for the quiet and natural settings and this park is one of our favorites. We never had issues with rowdy campers during our stays. The birds and deer were abundant. We didn't really fish the river so I cant comment on that. The current was quite swift as we had plenty of rain. - Uncledon
Oct 2016 - $32.00
The staff is friendly and the park is clean/quiet. The internal roads are tight and very little artificial lights in the area. So if you arrive at night keep a sharp eye out for the big trees next to the roadways. If your looking for a nice place to lay low for a few days, you might want to check this park out. - Pigcrib
Apr 2016 - $14.00
Stayed three nights in early April with friends camping adjacent. Park was not full for a weekend, so was very quiet. This is a very nice park in the Guadalupe River bottom shaded with beautiful enormous Pecan trees. Access to the Guadalupe River for fishing. The Lake was drained for repairs to the dam to be completed later this year, but we were not planning to use the lake. Lots of birds in the trees. Very well maintained grassy areas. One spot on the loop road through the park was too narrow for our small RV, but no problem getting out the other direction. A small camp store with basic supplies and friendly staff during check-in. - Texas E-S
