Review would have been much better except for restroom problems. There are 2 restroom buildings and 2 shower/restroom buildings. We used 1 restroom and both showers. The contractor who cleans the restrooms gives them a quick mopping, and goes on. Toilets had mold in them and were not cleaned in the 5 days we were there. Trash was not emptied and was left of the restroom floors. The toilets in the shower houses were stainless steel with no seats and looked as though they came from a prison. Stalls (men's and women's in the shower in the center of the CG had no latches (and no door, in one shower). The North shower was in better shape, but still dirty. Aside from the restroom problems, this is a wonderful place. The sites are spread out along the lake for a mile or so. Most are 30 amp but some near the boat ramp are 50. A few, like site 8, are several hundred feet from their neighbor. In early February, most are vacant. Most back to the water or the cypress swamp that borders the lake. There are well marked trails in the interior of the CG loop plus fire roads to walk. The nearby state park has additional trails and canoe rentals. There is a kids' fishing pond stocked with rainbow trout. On Thursday - Sunday, there was a truck selling some of the best shrimp I have ever had at the US190/TX92 intersection a few miles from the CG. We camped at Magnolia Ridge COE in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Get shrimp from the truck at US190/TX92 if he is there. Shopping is about 15 mi in either direction (Woodville, Jasper). Laundromat in Jasper. The nearby Texas State Park has additional trails launching ramps and canoe rental.

Though this is a beautiful park, the contractor that has the concession made it a miserable stay. They circled around our RV and car again and again blowing dust all over us. They then threatened to cause more problems the next day. He also stated multiple times that he made much more money than I did. We will not return to this park no matter how long we stay in Texas. We also will not go to the neighboring park on this lake. We strongly recommend avoiding this park. We camped at Magnolia Ridge COE in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

The drive from one end of this park to the other is beautiful. We saw herons, egrets, deer, cardinals, ducks and squirrels. We strongly recommend going to another COE park to enjoy these sights.

Overall Rating:

This is a very nice COE park located on the west side of BA Steinhagen Lake. Very nice gate attendants and host, park is kept very clean and neat. Rules appear to be enforced. There was ACE staff presence here, we saw the ranger numerous times as well as maintenance people. Sites are well spaced and allow for privacy and quiet. Water pressure was good, electric was steady. There is a little fishing lake for the kids. Great birding here, deer and fox wander the grounds. The trail system is very nice, cleverly laid out, not too easy and provides a good walk thru the woods. We enjoyed our time in this park and would return again. We camped at Magnolia Ridge COE in a Travel Trailer.

Little store and snack shop about 3 miles away. There is a dollar general nearby but a WM is either Woodville or Jasper...both about 20 miles.

We spent Memorial Day Weekend at this park. It was very quiet and peaceful. Well cared for park, in fact much better than some other COE parks we have stayed at. No litter, fire pits clean, grass mowed. Host/gate attendant was very pleasant and seemed to be very interested that we have a nice time in her park! We will definitely stay here again if in the area on a holiday week end. We camped at Magnolia Ridge COE in a Fifth Wheel.

We stayed a week near the last boat launch site. It was quiet. A few folks came and went while we were there with no bother at all. There are alligators and we noticed that a group of kayakers carried a rifle. Lots of birds to see and hear. COE volunteers and contractors were friendly and kept the park looking very nice. We camped at Magnolia Ridge COE in a Motorhome.

Beautiful cypress swamp, with dredged out channels, can't see most of the lake but it is off the beaten path, very quiet and clean! Guarded gate a bit much, but maybe there are problems in this area. Lots of fishing going on. Pretty much empty on the weekend! Recreation.gov said site had full shade....NOT EVEN CLOSE. No wifi, good Verizon coverage. We camped at Magnolia Ridge COE in a Motorhome.

Very nice place, very clean, probably the cleanest COE I have ever stayed. The only reason they dont get a 10 is they do not have full hook ups. We found this place by luck and we will be back. The host were very friendly, they were always picking up trash and checking on the place. Spots have room between them.

As a note, the $30 rate included a screen shelter. We camped at Magnolia Ridge COE in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

Most campsites are waterfront with easy access for kayaking or canoeing. The campground has 3 launching ramps for power boats. All interior roads and site pads are paved. Most sites are 30 amp with water; however, a few sites are 50 amp with water. All sites have fire rings, grills, sheltered picnic tables on concrete pads. The entrance gate is secured and staffed, there are picnic facilities, playground, trash receptacles and dump station. There are 2 stocked ponds for kid fishing only. Restrooms have flush toilets and hot showers. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Sites may be reserved online; however, we visited the month of January and the occupancy was 25% or less most of the time. We were able to get Directv signal and Verizon cell service was good. Hospitals and shopping located in Jasper, Texas, approximately 15 miles from campground. One negative during our stay was ants beginning to come out as the weather warmed up. Alligators are also present in the lake during warm weather (end of March). We plan to camp here again. We camped at Magnolia Ridge COE in a Motorhome.

If you like fried chicken and country food, a must is the Pickett House restaurant 3 miles West of Woodville, Texas. It is part of the Heritage Village Museum. Open for lunch weekdays, lunch & dinner on weekends. All food is served boarding house style.

Overall Rating:

Some sites are close together and some sites have some space. Limited over the air TV stations, satellite reception good, but for some sites reception could be an issue. AT&T cell coverage great and Verizon PC Card received good signal. As previously mentioned there are street lights that create a lot of light pollution and even shine in your camper at night. Interior roads are paved, but narrow at times. Nice hiking trials in the park and great bird watching. Electric and water pressure were good. No road noise here like you have over at the State Park. However, during this time of year it's duck hunting season so there was a lot of noise from the guns. Didn't realize it until I was wakened by the gunfire the first morning. Kind of got use to it. It's closer to go to Jasper for shopping and restaurants. Big Thicket Preserve is nearby: lots to do in the area. We camped at Magnolia Ridge COE in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

It is a beautiful campground with large roomy sites. I would have rated higher if the bathrooms and showers were cleaner. Also, for some reason there are A LOT of street lights in the campground. Way too much light pollution. Finally, locals who were camping were out in their boat from midnight until 2 or 3. A good night's sleep was hard to come by. We camped at Magnolia Ridge COE in a Tent Trailer.
