Gorgeous location. Even though the Basin Campground was full, it was quiet. There's lots of space between the sites. Our was full hookups, paved, super long (over 70') and there was 20'to the left and 40' to the right from the adjacent spots. This was a pull through on the 'main road' in to the campground, but the speed limit is 20 and there is virtually no traffic. There are a couple hikes right near the campground, and a few more ¼ mile -2 miles away in the park. The Shakespeare Arch fell a few months ago, but its still a gorgeous hike around its loop, with views in all directions. It was my favorite. I did all but the Panorama and they were all very nice. No long hikes in the park, but there are lots of places down Cottonwood Rd for longer hikes. We camped at Kodachrome Basin State Park in a Motorhome.

We’ll kept park. We stayed in a full hookup in Basin CG. Paved & roomy. Showers are better than a 5 star hotel! No cell, no WiFi )go to town (Cannonville) if u want WiFi from Verizon or AT&T. We camped at Kodachrome Basin State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

We are quickly learning that we prefer to camp at state parks as opposed to national parks. Kodachrome Basin certainly was no exception. The campground roads are all paved. Some sites offer full hookups while others offer only electric (50 amp). There are a couple of potable water faucets in the campground as well as a dump station. The rest rooms are clean, but the showers are FANTASTIC. I wish I had a rain shower head like that in my home. The parking pads are not always level. We used our Lynx blocks. This place is a real hidden gem and we recommend it highly. No cell service. There is a coin-op laundry at the campground as well as a small store at the visitor center/check-in. We camped at Kodachrome Basin State Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

Kodachrome Basin State Park is located in southwestern Utah, about 40 minutes drive south of Bryce Canyon National Park. It is a magically beautiful campground, in a valley surrounded by rock formations. A hiking trail leaves from the campground, and there's a nature trail at the edge of the campground that's a great place for morning coffee. There are mountain bike and horse trails close to the campground, and a company that offers trail rides. Roads are perfect for biking. The campground is well kept. 14 sites have full hookups, another 20 or so are dry. There's a dump station and water. Sites are spacious, with trees separating the sites. Even in the most crowded part of the campground, there's plenty of space. When we were there in mid-August, the hookup sites were all taken, but there were plenty of dry sites available. We were able to get a reservation for a FHU site about 2 weeks in advance. Every site has a relatively flat asphalt parking pad, a picnic table and fire ring. There is a laundromat in the park, 1/2 mile away from the campground. The showers deserve a mention. The bathroom in the main part of the campground has the most amazing rain head showers I've ever seen, anywhere. And they were free. This place is in the middle of nowhere. The nearest Verizon reception was 20 minutes away in Tropic. We never did get reliable AT&T reception anywhere in the area. I would assume that OTA TV reception is similarly nonexistent, but I didn't try. Come fully stocked. If you forget something, it's a long way to go back for it. We camped at Kodachrome Basin State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

There are no stores, cafes, gas stations, or anything, anywhere nearby. The closest is Tropic, 20 minutes, away, with minimal services. Panguitch, population 1400, is 1:20 away, and is the closest thing that has full services.

Hiking, biking, horseback riding. Bryce Canyon is 40 minutes away.

This park was wonderful! The sites are well designed, with asphalt roads, well graveled and level sites, with shade providing trees, and awesome views of the colorful canyon walls and pipes. The showers were amazing with spacious, newly tiled showers with both handheld and waterfall shower-heads. The park was remarkably clean and well maintained. There were viewpoints along the way to the park from the road and within the park itself, all of which were outstanding. This was one of the best state park campgrounds we have ever stayed in. As others have mentioned there was that there was no wifi or cell phone reception within the campground - but no wonder, as the campground was surrounded on 3 sides with majestic colored cliffs! This is a trade-off well worth making. We camped at Kodachrome Basin State Park in a Motorhome.

Excellent location as you're relatively close to Escalante and Bryce. Absolutely beautify campground. If you are looking for hookups ensure you reserve early. Although dry camping offers wonderful sites as well. Be cognizant of the weather as its gets hella hot! The campground in a basin, so forget about any cell service. We've camped throughout the West and use our repeater often and we find usually find service. You must drive a minimum of 5 miles and hope for service. Great hikes in this area, but the colors and rock formations are out of this world. We camped at Kodachrome Basin State Park in a Motorhome.

Hikes throughout the area. If you're towing an off road vehicle may roads to explore. I would most defiantly advise an additional vehicle as there are trailheads near by and accessible. I would suggest this campground as opposed to the other options in Escalante for sure. Just a wonderful state park. It doesn't disappoint!

We LOVED our 5-night stay here. We had a beautiful 50 amp FHU site with a huge picnic table and fire ring on our patio. The site was paved. The views are incredibly beautiful. We did not use the showers, but we looked at them and they are GORGEOUS....very different than what you normally get at a state park. We enjoyed the hiking trails in the park. Please be aware that you will not get ANY cell service or data on your cell phone here.....I mean ABSOLUTELY ZERO.....no matter what carrier you have. We enjoyed being offline for the 5 days, though. If you have satellite, it will work fine. Also, stock up on groceries before you come, as there is no shopping nearby. The afternoon winds will bring in fine gritty dust if your windows are open, but that is not a big deal to me. We thoroughly enjoyed our time here, and would definitely return. We camped at Kodachrome Basin State Park in a Motorhome.

We stayed in Kodachrome 5 nights as a base to visit Bryce Canyon area. The good: Excellent experience, full hookups, new asphalt, greatest camp shower ever, perfectly kept up. Only a few sites have full hookups, so reserve early. The showers are unbelievable! One of the best showers ANYwhere in my entire life! Huge, beautifully tiled, overhead rain shower or handheld wand. OMG, it felt so wasteful to enjoy that experience in the desert! The bad: It seems that, in May when we were there, the wind blows A LOT. We could never eat outside or put up the awning--too windy. With the windows open, fine dust gets EVERYWHERE. The wind typically died down in the evening so we had a couple campfires. Desert dirt site, concrete pad under picnic table, great privacy, new asphalt roads. We camped at Kodachrome Basin State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Park is maintained in excellent condition. Restrooms located fairly close to all sites. They are clean at all hours of the day. Ranger is on-site. We had some disrespectful RVer's arrive around 9:00 P.M. one night. They played music, spoke and laughed loudly, and basically behaved as if they were there alone. Ranger was informed in the morning and we never heard a sound from this group again. The park is fantastic. Surrounded by natural geographic formations, lots of hiking for both beginner and advanced. Our main destination was Bryce but we travel with a dog so state parks are better for us. We were close enough to Bryce and other scenic areas. This has got to be one of the best parks we've ever camped in. We camped in a travel trailer. We camped at Kodachrome Basin State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Byrce Canyon is within about 20 -25 minutes. We recommend you save some time to spend in Kodachrome as the hikes are fun and easy. Shopping is about 10 and 20 minutes away in different small towns. We also drove the 11 miles gravel road to Grand Staircase Escalante. Easy drive and great scenery.

This is our second stay in Kodachrome Basin SP and we absolutely love this park. It is definately one of our favorites, just too bad that it's over 2,300 miles from our home. Whatever I write just can't do justice to this beautiful small park located in a desert landscape surrounded by multicolored sandstone cliffs and dozens of sandpipe formations and away from strip malls and life's conveniences. It is how I always thought camping should be. The park is about 22 miles or 30 minutes from Bryce Canyon NP. The paved roads are fine all the way for any size RV. The internal park roads are good paved ones. As it can be a little confusing getting to some of the paved sites, discuss this with the ranger at checkin. There are 15 FHU sites and the rest are dry camping sites. Reservations are a good idea as the park is popular. Our site had great FHUs that worked well and were easy to hook up. As you are in a remote location there is no Verizon, WIFI or cable but who needs this with all the beauty surrounding you. It's quiet and the sky on clear nights is amazing. Our site had an area to also put a sizeable tent and a private area with a good picnic table, and a fire ring with grill. This was a great spot for dinner and a nightly campfire. The park offers very good hiking trails, mountain biking and horseback riding. The laundry was excellent and open 24 hours. Checkin runs smoothly and the rangers are very helpful. Bring what you'll need for your stay as shopping is not around the corner but some can be found in either Cannonville or Tropic on Route 12 on the way to Bryce Canyon NP. This is a great park to hike or just to chill out after a day of exploring nearby Bryce. We will always stay here when in this unique area. We camped at Kodachrome Basin State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Make reservations if you want to camp in this beautiful state park since it is very popular. The campground has paved roads and campsites with red gravel sitting areas. There are a wide variety of sites including some which were just a wide spot in the roadside. We had a backin site which was very long but narrow. Make your site selection carefully! The park has a quirky entrance forcing you to make a quick right/left turn combination. Bring all needed groceries and supplies since shopping in the area is very limited. No cell phone service in the park. Bathrooms, showers, and laundry were all clean and nice. We camped at Kodachrome Basin State Park in a Travel Trailer.

This is our second (and not our last) time at this park. The park is absolutely beautiful, sites are large treed, and very spacious. Roads and sites are level asphalt. It was remodeled a few years ago and is in excellent shape. It is off the highway by several miles making it feel quite secluded. Because it is located in a Canyon, the traffic is primarily within the campground. Lots of hikes within the park, and the staff is very helpful. We camped at Kodachrome Basin State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Wow! If I had to pick a location, design, and build a state park in Utah, this would be pretty darn close to what I would come up with. The park itself is amazing, with many miles of dog friendly hiking trails, incredible views, and amazing rock formations. Super quiet and mostly super dark at night with the exception of light loving neighbors (there really should be a rule against lights on at night). Several full hookup sites are on one side of the campground and all are big rig friendly with plenty of length and width. A couple of the pull through spots are about 100' long. The back in sites are a bit shorter, but still plenty of room for the longest of rigs and are off the main road. We had a back in which was very nice, but next time we'll select a pull through so we get afternoon shade from our rig. The non hookup sites are much more mixed with some being just a wide spot in the road, to short back ins, to huge, super long pull throughs. Check the map to know what you're getting when making reservations. We loved this park and the amazing location. All sites and roads are newer asphalt, so no dust and no rocks tracked into the rv. Lots of amazing hiking around the area as well as in the park. We'll be back! We camped at Kodachrome Basin State Park in a Motorhome.

Amazing little state park. Great hiking, views and star gazing! The RV site was very generous in size, level and paved. There are sites with full hookups and sites with water only. Only challenge we had was there is no cell service in the park and no WiFi. Being off the Grid is good for a couple of days but being a small business owner it's difficult to not be able to check in to the office. We ended up cutting our stay short a couple days and staying up the road at a different campground so we could access WiFi. If this park had WiFi it would be perfect.
