All the sites are quite large and spacious. Plenty of elbow room, so you don't feel on top of your neighbor. The views all around are beautiful, as is the park itself. Our trip from Moab the week prior and our first several days here were in the rain, so sightseeing and hiking were a little on the thin side. What we did see was great and this was not nearly as crowded as some other parks, so that was a nice benefit. The orchards are pretty cool. We had visitors every day as dusk. Our site was next to a water main or something that fed the creek which I imagine irrigates the orchards. This was pushing out gallons of water per minute 24/7. Kind of like a waterfall. Our site was a double wide site, so that worked well with double towing. Lots of trees surround the sites and grassy areas as well. One thing to mention, since no hook ups, it would have been nice if the generator hours were a little longer: 8-10 AM and 6-8 PM. It was sufficient and probably OK for most rigs. Certainly quieter. From the precarious leveling efforts all around, I would say most sites were not very level. Our tires on one side were off the ground. There is an historic guest house that sells pies and cinnamon rolls, as well as wood. Which was dry and burned beautifully. Ice is not sold at the park, so head in with that or the nearest place is Torrey, about 10 miles away. Be sure your fresh water is full. There are stations to fill portable water jugs at the restrooms. We camped at Fruita Campground (NPS Campground) in a Fifth Wheel.

We were in C loop and it was a nice campground. The sites are out of level, but not horribly, and we were easily able to level our trailer. There was no privacy between the sites and I felt we were pretty close together. There are no hookups and the only place to get water was at the bathroom. The bathroom was clean enough, but oh how I wish they had showers. The campground is right in the thick of things at Capitol Reef and it's an easy drive to all the hiking trails and points of interest. There are even a few trails that leave right from the campsite. The trees hadn't started to leaf out yet, so it felt a little bare & wintry. I bet when the huge trees have leaves and provide shade, the campground is beautiful. The apricot trees did have blooms and the deer hung out under the trees each evening. The scenery is stunning in the park and make sure to get a pie from the Gifford house, they are really yummy. We camped at Fruita Campground (NPS Campground) in a Travel Trailer.

Wow! This was by far the most beautiful campground on our trip. Near the streaming river, big green fields with trees, spacious sites. Visitor center and park entrance very nearby, easy to start a trail. Would have loved to stay her a bit longer. We camped at Fruita Campground (NPS Campground) in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

Capitol Reef National Park is one of Utah's national park gems. Red cliffs rise all around. The campground is in the Fruita historic district, which is on the National Register of Historic Places. Orchards remaining from the Mormon pioneer days are everywhere, and during the summer, something is always available for picking. The campground is well maintained, but dry camping. The campground is built basically in the middle of an orchard, and is surrounded by fruit and nut trees. It looks like an oasis after looking at rocks all day. Inside the campground, sites are separated by grass, and there are plenty of larger deciduous trees to provide shade. There are some larger sites in the C loop, and big rigs might be able to navigate the roads, but it isn't exactly big rig friendly. A water and dump station are available at the entrance. The sites are spacious, and each site has an asphalt pad, fire ring, grill, and picnic table, and looks tidy and well maintained. Some of the pads are decidedly unlevel. Restrooms are clean, but there are no showers. The camphosts were friendly, helpful, and had informational brochures and maps in their cart. If you're not a rule follower, you might want to know that the hosts run a tight ship. The entire Fruita historic area is overrun by deer that aren't the slightest bit afraid of people. There is no cell service anywhere in the campground or at the visitors' center. We got marginal AT&T reception at the top of Panorama Point, a couple of miles west of the visitors' center on hwy 24. Verizon was on roaming everywhere, including in Torrey, 12 miles away. We were able to make phone calls in Torrey, but had to rely on the minimal AT&T reception at Panorama Point for internet. We were having a problem with our coach when we were there, and ended up using the pay phones a lot. We camped at Fruita Campground (NPS Campground) in a Motorhome.

Beautiful location, amidst orchards. Close to old Fruita village. Every evening interesting lectures from park rangers at the amphitheater on the campground. Spacious campsites, partly shady and fairly level. Dry camping, but dumpstation at campground entrance. One of few campsites visited with environmentally friendly separate waste recycling containers (glass and plastic separate) We camped at Fruita Campground (NPS Campground) in a Motorhome.

We stayed for 3 nights in Fruita as a base for exploring Capitol Reef NP and surrounding areas. Level, back-in asphalt. It is a very nice campground with grass! Even though it is dry camping, it is a majority of RVs, like us. Lots of room, beautiful setting. You are going for the location, not the services. We hiked 2 trails directly from the campground. Fruita will always be one of our favorite memories from our Utah trip. No cell service. We camped at Fruita Campground (NPS Campground) in a Travel Trailer.

Positive: water! Excellent location. Negative: no electrical hookup, deer frequent campground This is a very pleasant NPS campground, better than many. Located in a flat meadow with a modest number of trees providing shade. Interior roads and pads are all blacktop. Pads are flat, level and squarish, with room for RV and tow vehicle side-by-side. There is a dump station with fresh water for tanks (not common in this part of Utah, especially on the mesas around Moab). No Verizon service, and while Torrey has other services, Verizon coverage there is 1-2 bars. We camped at Fruita Campground (NPS Campground) in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Pick up some pies and homemade ice cream at the nearby historic Gifford House, a short walk from the campground. (they have other interesting stuff, too) Pies are delivered at 8am, and popular varieties are sometimes gone by 10. We tried Apple and Mixed Berry - both were great. Picked up two for the road the day we left. There were already 10 people in line at 7:55.

Drove very early from Bryce to get early in order to get a spot in this first come first served campground. The drive was more than incredible and then to get to this beautiful campground was such a bonus! The campground was full by 11AM so glad we arrived at 9AM. Lots of trees and the orchard with loads of apples to pick (we were there early October). The orchard has several types of apples with ladders and picking poles and is on the honor system (leave money in a box). Delicious and juicy! There were deer and turkey in and around the campground every day. We even saw a small coyote come into the orchard and steal an apple. No cell or internet but you can drive to Torrey and get 3G at a minimum and there is a general store and laundry. Within walking distance of the campground is a little house that sells homemade bread and pies - super yummy. We were there 3 days and I was sad to go, not just because Capital Reef is amazing (which is right down the road) but the campground is so awesome. Views of mountains all around, beautiful trees everywhere, quiet, level and roomy sites..and those apples. No hookups and must adhere to quiet hours - water and dump station available in campground. We camped at Fruita Campground (NPS Campground) in a Motorhome.

We were looking for a place to stay in or near Capitol Reef convenient to hiking and biking in the NP. We're self contained and don't use the facilities. We stayed weeknights in early May. This is a beautiful campground, centrally located to great hiking and biking. The grounds are very well maintained. The sites are level and moderate size with a mix of sun and shade. There are no hookups. There's a dump station with potable water near the entrance. All sites are walk-in and the 3 loops were full by noon. There is no ATT or Verizon cell coverage, and no wifi. The staff was friendly and helpful. We camped at Fruita Campground (NPS Campground) in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

The visitor center is 1 mile from the CG. The scenic road is 10 miles (1 way), the last 3 being unpaved and drivable or bikable through deep canyons to additional hiking trails. The Hickman Bridge Trailhead is 3 miles from the CG with a 4.7 mi (1 way) hike to 360 degree views at Navajo Knobs or 2.5 mi (1 way) to the Rim Overlook. There's ATT and Verizon and wifi at the Wayne County Info station in Torrey, 12 miles west of the CG.

Tips for other Campers:

We drove the large loop out of Bolder per recommendation by visitor center... Great trip, 4 hours. We felt the canyons in the Burr trail were much better than Zion and a lot less crowded... If you start in the Bolder area, the road is paved for about half the route and then dirt/sand... We had 4x4, but needed unless it rains..

We came in on a Sunday afternoon in early August and had no problems finding an open site in Loop C. Most sites are fairly level, but some do have a bit of grade. Most of the double sites were taken by tent campers, but we had no problems with a single wide site. No over-the-air TV or cell phone reception at this NP. Nearest place for limited supplies is Torrey, about 10 miles west. Forget going east for anything. The campground hosts were right on top of things here. Just what we normally expect in a NPS campground. Deer are all over here, we had six mostly bucks show up one afternoon. We would come back if in the area. The only negative would be the very limited generator hours. 8 to 10 in the morning and 6 to 8 in the evening. It gets light at about 6, so waiting until 8 makes for a later start to the day. We camped at Fruita Campground (NPS Campground) in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

At the top of the Scenic Drive is a rough gravel road that goes another mile into the gorge. This is where a couple of trail heads are located. We highly recommend this drive which we had no problems with in a Ford Fusion. The Capital Gorge trail is a great hike, but don't go mid-day in the summer as it is full sun then.

This park is incredible for being a no-hookup campground. Upon arriving, I really thought I was at the wrong place. We were able to find a site without problem (arrived about 2pm) and setup camp. The campground has easy access to the national park attractions and hiking trails. Some trails and the visitors' center require driving to get there. The evening program at the campground led by a national park ranger was excellent. The dump station and water fill area were level and easy to get into and out of.
