Boy, did we ever like this campground. We did have an electric hookup, but no water. There is a dump station at the campground entrance, but no showers or potable water source. There was a nice deep sink outside the rest rooms. You need to bring in whatever water you are going to need. No potable water is available anywhere near the campground. That said, Kayenta is the older campground, and the sites are closer together than at the Wingate Campground. That wasn't really a problem. We didn't have much of a view from our campsite. I think that sites 1, 3, 4, 6 have views as well as some of the ones in the 12-19 area may have some. Not all the parking areas are level. Ours was. There was also a covered shelter with a storage area as well as a tent pad at our site. We like camping in Utah State Parks because dogs are permitted on most all trails (on a leash). There is a trail that leads from the campground to the west rim trail, and you can follow that trail for 2.5 miles to the Overlook. The views are really spectacular. You can then continue on the east rim trail for another 1.5 miles to the visitor center. Great hikes and great views. We noticed the park is also very popular with bikers as there are a lot of biking trails - but not on the rim trails. We were there over Memorial Day, and the weather was not very good - in the 30's each morning, rain and sleet throughout the day. Nevertheless, the times it cleared up a bit and we could get out, it was just fantastic. We were not able to get any kind of a cell signal on our AT&T phones. We camped at Dead Horse Point State Park in a Motorhome.

Amazing place! Dark nights, great views! Bring water. We filled our tank at Green River, and also brought bottled water for drinking. My wife and I loved this park. The view from the point is second-to-none... and there numerous other spots. Bring a camera and plan on a lot of pics! Our site required a bit of leveling, but not much. All the sites have picnic tables with shelters. The visitors center has firewood. We were in Wingate site 50. We camped at Dead Horse Point State Park in a Travel Trailer.

We stayed in the Wingate Section. The camp hosts keep the place spotless. This was probably the cleanest campsite I have ever stayed at. The sites are very spacious and well spaced. Most of the week we were the there the campground was very quiet, but it was also raining, so no one was hanging around the campfire. We found the location very convenient for visiting Canyonlands, Arches, and Moab. Dead Horse Point State Park is also gorgeous with some nice trails around the rim. Be aware that there is no water here but there is a very clean dump station on the way out. We camped at Dead Horse Point State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Yes, $40 a night for an electric only site is high but this park has so much going for it. I would have given it a 10 if they had water. The park has paved roads and sites that are wide enough for bigger rigs. We stayed in #32 and it was more than long enough for our 43'er and truck. The staff at the visitor center is excellent. You have a covered picnic table and fire pit at every site. We are going back again in the spring and will stay longer. There are too many great parks within driving distance to list. We only hit Arches and Dead Horse Point in this 2 days stay. Note that if you stay here, you must come with water on board. It is scarce at the park. We camped at Dead Horse Point State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

There are two campgrounds at Dead Horse Point SP. We camped on site 29 Wingate. The Wingate area is new and very big rig accessible. The Kayenta campground is older, has smaller sites and tighter to maneuver around. We checked in at the visitors center. (The gate was unmanned). There were no camp hosts present, although the first three sites on the way in looked like host sites. Sites are electric only, water was on site at the host sites only and at the dump station. (Not drinking water) Most sites are back in, several are sloped. Pull thrus are spacious and there are no trees or obstructions that interfere with access. The rest rooms were immaculate. They looked brand new. No OTA TV reception. AT&T signal was excellent. Canyonlands NP is about 20 min drive, Arches NP is closer to a 40 min ride. Moab is 5 mins past the Arches NP entrance. Dead Horse Point has several hiking trails, the point has a great view of the canyons. We camped at Dead Horse Point State Park in a Motorhome.

Bring it with you! The nearest store is in Moab, 45 min away. The Visitors Center has good information on hikes and a gift shop. There is a short movie in the lower level too. If you camp in anything larger than a 30 footer, Wingate is the better option.

This is a wonderful campground. We stayed at the new Wingate area of the facility. Even though there are no showers the restrooms are set up to avail everyone of privacy and a wet bath is just as good. The area is very well kept; hosts keep everything amazing clean. We would stay here again if ever the opportunity became available. We camped at Dead Horse Point State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Dead Horse Point State Park is northwest of Moab, on the road to Canyonlands National Park. The park has some of the best views in the area, as good or better than Canyonlands. There are now two campgrounds, Kayenta (the old campground), and Wingate (new this year). Both campgrounds have electric at the site, and dump stations by the entrance. Neither campground has water. There was a sheet on the board next to the restrooms that had a list of places with water and showers in Moab. The restrooms have flush toilets and a dishwashing sink, but no showers. Every site in both campgrounds has an asphalt pad, covered ramada with picnic table, grill, fire pit, and level tent pad. Fires are banned for the 2018 season, and all of the fire pits and grills had yellow tape across them. Kayenta, the old campground, is picturesque. Most of the sites have views. The way the sites are arranged, it felt private and was quiet, even on the weekend. If you have anything larger than a truck camper or tiny trailer, you will probably have trouble getting level. The pads are mostly not level, and are surrounded by rocks, so there isn't much room to maneuver. Wingate is the new campground. It is more big rig friendly, and more RV friendly in general. It's on flat ground, and roads are wider, and RV pads are much larger. But it is not nearly as pretty as Kayenta, and the views aren't as nice. Cell service, both Verizon and AT&T, was good. We camped at Dead Horse Point State Park in a Motorhome.

Positive: electrical hookup, good location for Arches and Capitol Reef National Parks Negative: Bring Water! Load up on water before you arrive - there is no water for tanks (but you can wash dishes in the sink next to either of the two bathrooms with flush toilets. Dead Horse Pt Campground added a new loop this year (Wingate), so roads, bathrooms, etc. are all in great shape. Very long pull-throughs. Flat, asphalt. Dump station also easy to use. Stayed four nights in a moterhome with the family. Brought 20 gallons extra water but didn't need it the family steped up and conserved water and used the park restroom a lot. Very clean and nice. Site was perfect with my son sleeping in a tent. Lots of space and had campfires every night. Wood available at visitor center. Super quiet! Stayed in Moab for a few nights after....too noisy. Next time full week at DHPSP. We camped at Dead Horse Point State Park in a Motorhome.

If you remember to take lots of water with you, you will enjoy this campground and the surrounding area immensely. The camp workers work very hard to keep it clean (they were painting areas when we arrived). Super friendly camp host and workers. We loved being close to the vistas in Dead Horse State Park with breathtaking views that we thought were better than others in the area. We would definitely return. Super close to Canyonlands and a little further to Arches but it was a pleasure to drive and see the views. No hookups but dump station in campground. Overall Rating:

As others have said, this is a fabulous campground. The views are breathtaking and the hiking trails are great. It does have some issues for big rigs. The driveway lengths listed on reservation.gov can be very misleading. Many of the sites slope so steeply that only a portion is usable for the RV itself. Most of the sites also have large boulders at the end of the pavement that prevents overhanging the pad, further limiting usable length. We stayed in sites 1 and 11 in our 43' coach with a dolly and a car and had no problem. Site 21 is also long enough for us, but I have my doubts about others. There is no overflow parking for cars or trailers and the rangers will not permit parking off pavement., so everything must fit in the driveway. The power posts are on the wrong side of the pull-through sites. I had to run an extension cable under the coach. There is NO water, so bring all you will need. The new sites mentioned in another review are now scheduled to open after January 1, 2018. The new back-in sites appear to be about 70' long and the pull-thrus are easily 100'. The sites are the largest I can recall ever seeing. The best views are in the old campground, especially sites 9-20. All sites, old and new, have covered patios with tables and fire pits. We camped at Dead Horse Point State Park in a Motorhome.

The chorizo and fish tacos at Giliberto's are surprisingly good. Also check out their salsa bar. Don't miss Moab Backyard Theater, a funky outdoor venue with fun shows and local live music Mar-Oct. Take chairs or get there early to get a hay bale seat. Wednesday night bluegrass is my favorite. BYOB, too.

This campground offers a unique experience with it's location high above the Colorado River. The campground is adding an additional 30 sites which are scheduled to be available in late October. The current sites are well spaced and offer covered picnic tables. Most sites are unlevel, front to back, but not too badly. There are flush toilets and dishwashing sinks but no showers. RVs need to bring their own water - no RV water is available. The Maverick convenience store in Moab offers free potable water. There are wonderful hiking and mountain biking trails. Great canyon views. The park rangers are very nice and can offer many suggestions on what to do. We camped at Dead Horse Point State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Dead Horse Point is conveniently located between Arches and Canyonlands National Parks. The sites were extremely private with small pine and juniper trees providing lots of cover. Our site had two groomed tent pads as well as a lovely sheltered picnic table with a light and cabinet for food storage. Sites were level with electronic and limited cellular service. We seriously loved our stay here! Gorgeous park with amazing views, friendly and helpful hosts, a really nice dog friendly 4.5 mile trail with spectacular views. Very, very quiet at night with great star gazing. As previously mentioned, 30amp electric only at each site, but a dump station is in the park. Sites are mostly nicely spaced each with two large tent spots, a gazebo, and picnic table. The bad news is there are only two sites in the park which are big rig friendly. Our site, 21, was probably our favorite in the entire park with no close neighbors, very long (although a bit barrow), and a huge corner lot. The other big rig site, 01, is a pull through which is also nice. Several other sites looked to be a bit uneven front to back, but smaller rigs under 30' shouldn't have too much of a problem. Very difficult to get reservations, so plan ahead. They will be adding about 30 additional sites in the future which will be nice. We camped at Dead Horse Point State Park in a Motorhome.

We enjoyed our camping experience at Dead Horse Point, we stayed here whilst visiting the National Parks in the area. Easy check in, sites have some privacy from other campers but beware of the stated lengths of the sites, some of that length is on a steep slope, we had great difficulty fitting in our 31 ft fifth wheel onto our site that was advertised as 35ft. Very well maintained facilities. Great views from both the site and the state park. Bring a full tank of water as none available on site. One dump station available at the entrance to sites. All sites had electricity. We camped at Dead Horse Point State Park in a Fifth Wheel.
