It's a very nice little campground in a beautiful setting. We were going to stay a week there but there is no AT&T service and Verizon isn't good enough to work with. Maybe if you have a signal booster Verizon might be a lot better and usable. We ended up in a campground in Joseph, about 12 miles away and more in the open. The campground is in a canyon. We camped at Fremont Indian State Park / Sam Stowe Campground in a Motorhome.

Beautiful campground. Clean restrooms; no showers. Siesta level and roomy. Good trails in the park. A little tricky figuring out how to get there. On the frontage road you go past the Visitor Information Centre and the Sam Stowe Campground is on the left where it says "Sam Stowe Canyon". The "archway" entrance is tall enough for your fifth wheel! We camped at Fremont Indian State Park / Sam Stowe Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Conveniently located near the Candy Mountain Express Bicycle trail (at Sevier Junction) and other paved pathways -they can direct you at the State Park Visitor Information Center which you will pass by on the frontage road on the way to the Sam Stowe Campground. Be sure to eat at the excellent Big Rock Candy Mountain Grill on Hwy 89. If you need a laundry, don't go to the one in Richfield. We would stay here again in our fifth wheel.

Overall Rating:

We spent two nights here (and arrived in the early afternoon) in order to see as much as two slightly feeble oldsters can. The layout of the Sam Stowe Campground is great, with a small central oval planted with trees and native vegetation. A local gardening club has also planted native bushes between each site so although sites are sort of close to each other, it felt very private. Plus each site has only a canyon wall behind it so when looking out the back window of our trailer we only saw lovely nature.

Fremont Indian State Park has two campgrounds, this one and a tent/primitive one, but one checks in at the Visitor Center/Museum for both. The entire park is alongside I-70, but even so was very quiet, mostly. I used RV Trip Wizard to find this campground and was a bit confused since their database did not make it clear that this is a single state park with two campgrounds, each with their own level of amenities & separate campground names, but both are within "Fremont Indian State Park" and reservations at Sam Stowe are made using ReserveAmerica.

After resolving our initial confusion, we loved the Sam Stowe campground. One can walk to the museum or drive there from the campground. The park has numerous well-marked hikes to see some of the hundreds of petroglyphs on the canyon walls, each carefully labelled as to length and difficulty. The museum has plastic sheets with info for each hike and item to be seen along the hike. Pick them up before setting out, and return them afterwards. The museum itself provides a good overview and background for what is to be seen outside on the hikes. We camped at Fremont Indian State Park / Sam Stowe Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Beautiful small canyon. Sites are clean and well maintained. We used electric. Sites are very close together. Middle of nowhere except for interstate. Campground is 1 mile off interstate along a frontage road. Despite being so close to the freeway, we heard minimal freeway traffic. Put the Fremont Indian State Park in GPS and get off at that exit, NOT the exit to the north and the frontage road. We camped at Fremont Indian State Park / Sam Stowe Campground in a Motorhome.

Very pretty little park off 89. Sam Stowe has 7 full hook ups. It is a group campground that is now available to individuals when not reserved by a group. Campsites are gravel with a fire ring and picnic table. Sites are gravel--we had #6, which wasn't level. Bathroom are very clean and stocked. There is some road noise from hwy. 89, but not bad at night. Would come again. We camped at Fremont Indian State Park / Sam Stowe Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

This was a group campground until this spring, but it is now open for individual full-hookup camping unless reserved by a group. In fact, the sign out front still identifies it as a group campground, but in fact individual sites are reservable on Reserve America. Located about a half mile north of the visitor center museum, it is tucked into a small canyon and is a very pretty location, only about a mile off I-70. Roads and sites are gravel, but in good condition and fairly level. Sites are large and adequately separated. Best part was that in spite of canyon and nearby mountains I was able to get 2 bars of Verizon voice and data, and also got a good satellite signal. We camped at Fremont Indian State Park / Sam Stowe Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Lots of hiking trails in the state park, plus a very nice museum. Also, there are a couple of picnic areas and historical markers along Clear Creek Canyon road that parallels the freeway and provides entrance to the park.
